Chapter 131 The General Never Leaves

Who knows, one day in the future, she will have the most respected position among women in the world, a position that will surely make all the women of the seven kingdoms envious and jealous.

He pondered for a moment, then looked up and saw Zheng Quchi intently watching the battle below. He was somewhat pleased, seeing her concern for her general. He said, "Madam, the general dislikes it most when people recklessly defy him. Have you seen what happened to these barbarians?"

Zheng Quchi didn't really care much about the battle below. She was mainly confident in Yuwen Sheng's combat ability and his infamous "fearsome reputation," believing that this battle was a sure thing.

Her main goal was to distract herself from this situation and avoid any possibility of eye contact or conversation with the gloomy-looking adjutant, Wang.

She felt that their personalities didn't mesh well, and they couldn't agree on anything.

But is this something she can avoid simply by not wanting to talk about it?

Obviously not.

King Zebang had a mouth, and he wanted to make Zheng Quchi feel a sense of crisis. In this way, she would remember to be careful and cautious in her actions, and not act recklessly as before, causing their general a lot of trouble.

Zheng Quchi may be a rough person, but he's actually quite perceptive. She could tell that he was just making conversation because he had something to say.

"...Then what is his standard for disobedience?" Zheng Quchi asked, following his words.

When Wang Zebang saw her looking so eager to learn, he was taken aback. Then he remembered that their status was no longer what it used to be, and he couldn't appear so aggressive. If others saw this, wouldn't they say that he was a servant who was bullying his master?

He lowered his head slightly, taking his subordinate's posture into account: "If the general has not spoken, even if you can guess what it is, you cannot make decisions on your own. Otherwise, you will be breaking a taboo, which is called overstepping your bounds."

He was worried that Madam Zheng Quchi might not be content with her lot and would always try to make decisions for her general, so he was subtly warning her.

However, Zheng Quchi had other things on her mind, and she interpreted what she heard as something else entirely.

Do not disobey, do not act on your own... otherwise you will be breaking a taboo.

She can't "overstep her bounds"...right?

Otherwise, if she angered the capricious Yuwen Sheng, her fate would probably not be much better than that of the barbarians.

Take her desire for a divorce, for example. She was too inconsiderate beforehand. If she were to bring it up herself, wouldn't that be saying that she was dissatisfied with Yuwen Sheng?

What a humiliation this was for Yuwen Sheng!

He would think, "She's just a peasant girl. She's far inferior to me in looks, and in terms of family background and wealth, she's nothing special. If I can't even keep someone like her, what kind of noblewoman will I be able to marry in the future?"

Who knows, in a fit of rage, he might spare her life if he's lucky, then break her arms and legs, chain her up, and imprison her in a dark room, never to see the light of day again; or, if he's unlucky, he might just dismember her...

Damn it, those dark fantasy novels I used to read are trying to kill her again.

“I understand. I will wait for him to bring it up first before I agree,” Zheng Quchi solemnly assured Wang Zebang.

Wang Zebang was both surprised and astonished to see how cooperative she was.

"That's the best way to put it, Madam."

Zheng Quchi glanced at Wang Zebang twice, making him feel somewhat uncomfortable.

She suddenly had a good idea.

"Madam, is there something you need?" he asked.

"Lieutenant Wang, how long have you been serving the general?"

Five years.

Five years.

"Yes, it's not as good as Fu Rong, who has followed the general since childhood, nor as good as Wei Yao, who has followed the general for nearly ten years." Clearly, he was somewhat bothered by his short five years.

Zheng Quchi comforted him, "Five years isn't a short time. As long as you keep following your general, there will be another five years, a third five years... Do you know what your general hates?"

Her last sentence took a sharp turn, revealing her main purpose.

“We cannot discuss the general’s preferences in private. If Madam wants to know, she can find out later.” Wang Zebang chose to keep it a secret.

He believed that Zheng Quchi was trying to learn the general's preferences from his close attendants in order to curry favor with him, and that this was not sincere and he despised it.

Zheng Quchi, however, looked worried and said, "Deputy Commander Wang, you don't know, your general and I are often separated, and it's difficult for us to even see each other. What if, as you say, I accidentally violate one of his taboos? Then what will become of me in the future..."

She sighed repeatedly.

Wang Zebang then "understood" that she was worried because of his earlier "reprimand," which was why she had no choice but to ask him for information.

Wang Zebang felt a little guilty, so he stopped keeping quiet and answered her with something unimportant: "General, you don't like women who dress up too much, especially those who wear heavy makeup."

This is a reference to the noble ladies who had tried to seduce the general in the past. Every one of them went out with heavy makeup, beautiful appearance, and a fragrant scent, but in the end, they all returned empty-handed.

That's easy.

She went back and immediately bought a set.

"Anything else?"

Wang Zebang pondered: "The general... doesn't like women smiling at him all the time."

This is a reference to Princess Sheng'an. Whenever she saw the general, she would smile like a peony, charming and beautiful, but the general would always find it extremely distasteful.

Oh, so she's made up her mind. Whenever she sees Yuwen Sheng, she can't stop smiling.

However, Yuwen Sheng's dislike for certain things is quite unusual. He doesn't like people laughing? Does he prefer people crying?

Hey, you never really know, he's a bit psychologically unstable.

"Besides these, is there anything your general can't touch or mention, anything that will make him extremely angry if touched or talked about, though not to the point of killing someone?" After saying that, she added slyly, "I believe that Wang, the adjutant who has been by the general's side for five years, must know."
