"You want him dead?"
Zheng Quchi was startled.
"As you wish."
Before he finished speaking, he flicked his wrist, and a sword pierced straight into Lord Liu's back. With a painful groan, the man fell from his horse.
Zheng Quchi's fingers trembled, but she didn't care about Lord Liu's life or death at that moment. She just turned her head back in a daze and asked, "What...did you just say?"
Xing'an gazed deeply into her eyes, the flames whistling in the valley wind, as if there was an inextinguishable flame burning in each other's eyes.
However, he said nothing and turned back to the bandits.
Zheng Quchi clenched his fists and chose to temporarily put aside the chaotic thoughts in his mind.
Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, she ran to the side of the dead chief eunuch, pretending to check if he was really dead, but actually searching his body for some things.
"Xiao Zheng, why are you next to a dead person? Aren't you afraid?" Xiao San asked in surprise.
Zheng Quchi was startled, but when she heard it was Xiao San's voice, her stiff back slowly relaxed.
However, his question caused her to be momentarily dazed.
She used to be afraid of dead people, but once you see too many things, it's like your nerves get numb, and you stop being afraid.
She is now more afraid of the living than the dead.
"I just wanted to find out if he was dead or not."
"Oh... but he's definitely dead, a fatal blow to the throat. Brother Xing'an's swordsmanship seems to be getting better and better." Xiao San muttered a couple of times, then quickly shouted, "Xiao Zheng, it's unlucky to die, come over here, don't get your hands on that hermaphrodite's blood."
Xiaoqi nodded: "It's dirty, don't touch it."
Zheng Quchi nodded and was about to stand up when she suddenly felt a slight vibration in the ground, which made her suspicious.
He pressed his ear to the ground and heard the sound of horses' hooves pounding the ground. There must be a cavalry unit nearby. Zheng Quchi suddenly looked up.
Not only did she hear it, but the bandits who were on lookout duty from the high ground also rushed down.
"Xing'an, Xing'an, there's a cavalry force to the east. They haven't lit any torches, so I can't see how many of them there are, or if they're coming this way. What should we do now?"
Upon hearing this, Xing'an glanced at the chaotic surroundings and said, "Cover up all the clues that belong to us. Smash what you can, and bury what you can't."
Seeing that they had already started cleaning up, Zheng Quchi became somewhat anxious.
She stared at the flames near the carriage, which were growing smaller and smaller. If it were daytime, the black smoke from the fire would be blown into the air by the wind and could be seen by people in the distance.
Wang Zebang and his men might be searching around here today... but regardless of whether it's his team or not, she has to work with them to stop these bandits from escaping again.
The scout ran back again, this time with a more terrified expression: "Xing'an! It's government troops, and a Black Armor Army, maybe even the Xuanjia Army! We have to escape!"
Zheng Quchi's pupils suddenly tightened, and the corners of her normally straight lips subtly curled up, but she quickly smoothed it out.
Sure enough, they've arrived.
Upon hearing this, Xing'an, whose deep-set eyes and brows seemed unfathomable in the darkness, ordered, "Pack up the valuables, take our things, and let's go!"
Zheng Quchi stared quietly at Xing'an's back, her gaze mirroring her previous one when she looked at Lord Liu—she wouldn't let them escape like this.
However, it would take some time before Wang Zebang and the others arrived, and they might not even be able to find the right direction in the darkness. How could she tell them her location and buy them time to wait for them?
She suddenly remembered something: "Xiao Qi, do you have any gunpowder tubes on you?"
Although she asked him that, she was certain he had it.
Since Xiaoqi and Xiaosan are responsible for the logistics of assembling equipment, they should carry some spares in addition to the quantity they use, in case of unexpected emergencies.
Sure enough, Xiaoqi nodded without hesitation.
"Can I borrow it?" she asked again.
Xiao Qi is different from Xiao San. He is simple-minded. Once he considers someone close to him, he will not have any suspicion or defense. Although he has only known Zheng Quchi for a short time, he trusts her like a companion.
Xiaoqi took out a few sticks from his pocket and handed them to her.
Xiao San actually had some ideas, but he didn't stop Xiao Qi. He just asked curiously, "Xiao Zheng, what do you need this for?"
Facing these two trusting faces, Zheng Quchi suddenly asked, "Xiao San, Xiao Qi, if one day you stop being highwaymen, what do you want to do?"
The mistress was taken aback: "Why...why do you ask that?"
Xiaoqi also looked bewildered.
Zheng Quchi reached out and, with a smile on his face, ruffled their hair and patted them gently: "You two silly kids, what's so good about being a bandit? You live in constant fear, and you can't do it for a lifetime. Why are you still hesitating?"
The mistress dodged her hand, not letting her mess up her hair: "No, we just think it's strange that you asked that question, and... how did you know who those people were?"
He asked the last question in a very low voice, as if he was afraid that others would hear it.
When Zheng Quchi saw that Xiao Qi didn't dodge and was still standing there obediently letting her "torture" her, compared to Xiao Qi, Xiao Qi was indeed more like a cute little angel.
"When I asked you questions, how did you answer? You said that when the time comes, you will know naturally. Now I will return the favor to you: when the time comes, you will know too."
