Chapter 236 Arrest and Return to Justice

She recounted the events of that day to them in detail, leaving the two men stunned and completely unprepared for how things had unfolded.

"So, it was that bandit leader named Xing'an who approached you, Madam?"

Wei Yao and Wang Zebang exchanged a secret glance, wondering what was going on.

"So...that's not wrong. He must have heard the soldiers shouting to arrest bandits, and that's when he got curious and came to take me away. By the way, have you gone to look for my brother and little sister?" She looked at them intently.

Wei Yao snapped out of his reverie and said, "Madam, there's no need to worry. The people have been found, they're alright, and they've already been sent back."

When Zheng Quchi heard him speak with such certainty, he felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted from his heart.

However, she was still a little worried about her younger sister's condition. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Let's leave these things as they are for now. I need to go home and see them. Please send a few trustworthy people to escort me."

They were just hesitating about how to start the conversation when Zheng Quchi blurted it out himself.

They looked at her, their expressions of surprise barely concealed.

It must be said that the lady has truly grown up.

In the past, although she didn't say it, it was obvious to everyone that she disliked having a bunch of guards around her. Of course, saying she disliked them wasn't entirely accurate, but rather that she wasn't used to it. She often still considered herself an ordinary person, except for Runtu, whom she accepted well.

This is probably because Runtu is like a real shadow.

He never interfered with his wife's actions; he only chose to silently protect and accompany her.

But now she would ask them to do so, and this time she truly understood her position and situation.

"Don't worry, Madam, I've already arranged the manpower. They were all trained by Runtu himself, and they're experts in reconnaissance, assassination, interrogation, and cleanup," Wei Yao assured her, slamming her hand on the table.

Weren't the people they arranged supposed to be protecting them? Why does this sound like something else entirely?

“I have no intention of rebelling. There’s no need for you to assign me such a talent,” Zheng Quchi sincerely advised.

Unexpectedly, Wei Yao offered a more sincere suggestion: "Just in case, it's better to be prepared. In any case, they are all one in a million. Madam, please feel free to use their services if needed."

The word "what if" sounds rather eerie...

Unable to refuse their good intentions, Zheng Quchi could only accept the roles of "reconnaissance," "assassination," "interrogation," and "cleanup" with a positive attitude.

——

When Zheng Quchi returned to the Sang residence, he pushed open the door and saw Brother Sang twisting hemp rope in the main hall.

In the countryside, darkness falls early, and lamps are hung under the roof beams early on. Mosquitoes buzz around the lamps, and under that not-so-bright light, his slightly hunched and indifferent back arches, stretching out with suppleness and practiced movements.

Seeing his figure, Zheng Quchi paused for a moment, then called out joyfully, "Brother—"

Brother Sang paused, then looked up at the doorway: "A ruler?"

He reached for his cane from the side, immediately put down what he was doing, and went to greet him: "What brings you back?"

His voice rose slightly, a sign that his mood had suddenly improved.

Zheng Quchi stepped over the threshold and ran up to Brother Sang in a few steps: "I came back the day before yesterday. I couldn't find you, so I asked around. The peddler said you took your younger sister to see a doctor, so I went to the county town to look for you. But I searched all the pharmacies and clinics and couldn't find you. Where did you two go?"

In one breath, she burst out with a string of words, like a firecracker being lit.

Brother Sang was stunned for a moment upon hearing this, and then his expression became slightly unnatural for a second.

He reached out and gently patted her head, but avoided looking directly at her: "Are you stupid? We don't have the money to go to these places for medical treatment. I took Yaomei to a stall that treats poor people like us. After examining her, he said that Yaomei just caught a cold, which is why she has a headache and feels uncomfortable. It's nothing serious."

After saying this, he looked her over again and saw that her eyes were as bright as ever, her face was radiant, and she was dressed cleanly, so he felt relieved.

"As for you, you've been gone for so many days without even sending a message back. If Wei Yao hadn't sent people to tell me about your situation from time to time, I wouldn't know what you've been busy with all day long."

As an older brother, he always tends to be a bit more concerned, but he worries that his concern might disturb her from doing her work, so he often scares himself at home. Fortunately, there are always some more attentive people around her who take care of the household for her.

"Is that really true?" Zheng Quchi asked with some doubt.

Brother Sang put on a stern face: "Would I lie to you?"

"Alright, where is that girl? I'm going to go check on her."

"She slept in the room..."

Before he could finish speaking, Zheng Quchi had already rushed off to see Sang Yaomei as if he were riding on wheels of fire.

He watched her hurried retreating figure, shook his head with a wry smile, but suddenly remembered something and immediately grabbed his cane and chased after her: "Wait, there's something..."

Zheng Quchi didn't hear what Brother Sang was shouting behind her. She had already arrived in front of Sang Yaomei's room and gently pushed the door open. The lights were on inside, and she immediately noticed that Yaomei wasn't alone in the room; there was another unfamiliar figure present.

Her expression suddenly tightened.

Who is it?

Zheng Quchi's first reaction upon seeing a stranger was naturally to be wary.

As she uttered those words, four slender figures lashed out like black whips, instantly taking control of the four corners of Sang Yaomei's room. Once the madam gave the order, they could immediately bring the other party to their deaths.
