Chapter 237 Old News from the Imperial Court

"I'm not very bold, I just dare to tell the truth."

Seeing that Chi Zi and Yuan Chuhua were locked in a tense standoff, exchanging undercurrents he couldn't understand, Brother Sang noticed that Yuan Chuhua's expression was off, so he stretched out his arm to block Zheng Quchi.

“You are the one I brought back, and she is my sister. She naturally has the right to decide whether you stay or leave.”

Yuan Chuhua looked at Brother Sang with surprise in her beautiful eyes. She saw that his expression was as cold and indifferent as ever, but his jaw was tense and he had a more imposing aura than before.

“Sang Jiahe, you need to get this straight, it wasn’t you who brought me back, it was me—Yuan Chuhua—who chose you!” She pointed at Brother Sang, then at herself: “Who do you think you are? Don’t think that just because you took me in for a few days you can boss me around. Don’t forget, if I hadn’t found you that day, you and your little sister wouldn’t even know—”

"Enough!" Brother Sang interrupted gruffly.

He raised his eyes, revealing a pair of eyes similar in shape to Zheng Quchi's, but with more wrinkles. He said heavily, "I helped you, and you helped me. So we owe each other nothing. Now you are the high and mighty Princess Sheng'an. You should go back to your magnificent palace, instead of living in our simple and cramped farmhouse."

Yuan Chuhua was clearly enraged by his blunt words.

"So that's what you think." She nodded in realization, then her gaze grew colder and colder, and finally she said angrily, "Who do you think you are? A cripple. Do you think this princess would want to be with someone like you? There is only one person in my heart, and that is Yuwen Sheng, the most handsome man in Daye. The reason I came to this wretched place, Fuxian, and went through all this is to see him."

Brother Sang listened expressionlessly, completely unmoved, while Zheng Quchi glanced down at his clenched fist.

"If that's the case, why has the princess been hiding in my humble abode instead of going to the Changxunpo camp to find General Yuwen?" Zheng Quchi asked.

Princess Sheng'an ignored Zheng Quchi's words. She suddenly heard some unusual noises, like dense, rustling footsteps approaching quietly.

She paused for a moment, then suddenly looked at Zheng Quchi.

Yuan Chuhua narrowed her eyes slightly, her gaze probing and sharp: "This princess has never deliberately concealed her identity. I'm just curious, who exactly are you, and where did you get such great ability to mobilize an army to surround the Sang residence?"

Zheng Quchi was somewhat surprised that Yuan Chuhua could distinguish between government officials and soldiers by his hearing, but she was not in a hurry to find out now.

She gently patted Brother Sang's hand, reassuring him that he didn't need to worry about anything and that she would take care of everything: "Brother, I have to go back now. I might be busy with some things these few days and won't be able to come home. You need to take good care of your younger sister and yourself at home."

Brother Sang seemed to realize that he might have caused her trouble, and he nodded: "Don't worry about us, just do what you want to do."

After giving him his instructions, Zheng Quchi slowly raised his eyes and smiled slightly, saying, "Princess Sheng'an, you should go home now."

Her smile at that moment seemed to subtly overlap with the face of a certain figure, causing Princess Sheng'an to stare blankly, momentarily lost in thought.

With a "bang," the door was pushed open from the outside, and Wei Yao was seen leading a group of soldiers in.

"Princess Sheng'an, please come with me."

When Yuan Chuhua turned around and saw Wei Yao, who looked like a cunning fox, his expression froze.

"Why is it you?"

It turns out that the person his sister called was Wei Yao; this time, she probably won't be able to escape.

"Because I was worried that if I sent someone else to invite the princess, they wouldn't be able to persuade her, and of course, that would be a great disrespect to the princess," he said with a smile.

Yuan Chuhua didn't believe him at all. She snorted and said, "Wei Yao, we've known each other for over ten years. I know exactly what kind of person you are. Stop with the empty pleasantries. You want to take me back to Shengjing to hand over to my father, right? Fine, then have Yuwen Sheng personally escort me."

Upon hearing this, Wei Yao's smile turned cold: "I'm afraid it's no use. The general has run into trouble in Julu Kingdom and his whereabouts are still unknown. Surely the princess knows this?"

“Of course I know,” Yuan Chuhua said coldly. “I also know that Yuwen Sheng is a monster, and he won’t die so easily.”

"So the princess wants to stay here to wait for news from the general?"

"I know that if I show myself, you will definitely send me back, but I must see Yuwen Sheng." She seemed to be preoccupied with something.

Wei Yao and Yuan Chuhua had indeed known each other for a long time. He understood her personality and roughly knew the reason for her persistence: "Chuhua, even if the general were here, he would not see you, let alone if his whereabouts were unknown."

Yuan Chuhua's face paled, and he gritted his teeth: "Is he really that heartless?"

It wasn't that he was heartless, but rather that no one could change the general's mind about what he wanted to do.

Wei Yao glanced at Zheng Quchi, a bystander, and said, "Let's go. Don't make things difficult for me. You don't want a princess of a nation to be tied up and forced into a carriage, do you?"

Yuan Chuhua glared at him.

She really wanted to twist his head off, if only she could beat him.

Before leaving, Yuan Chuhua glanced back at Brother Sang. Her expression was arrogant and indifferent. She seemed to want to say something to him, but after thinking for a moment, she ultimately left without saying a word.

But Brother Sang, who hadn't looked at her until she turned around, stared straight at her. Her stunning figure, adorned with a pair of auspicious gold pendants, swayed in the wind, tinkling softly.
