Chapter 238 Three Visits to the Dungeon

"What's wrong?"

Wei Yao led the way through the dark path ahead. Unable to hear Zheng Quchi following, he turned around and saw her standing in front of a prison cell, lost in thought.

Zheng Quchi pointed to the person inside: "This person, I feel like I've seen him somewhere before?"

"You've seen him?" Wei Yao looked into her eyes and thought for a moment with her. He said, "He's an assassin. The general brought him back from Wujue Temple in Yongfeng Mountain of Julu Kingdom. In the past, the general always dealt with assassins on the spot without leaving any survivors, but this time he left someone behind and brought him back."

Upon hearing his words, Zheng Quchi suddenly remembered something. She exclaimed, "Oh, I remember now, it was him!"

"Does Madam know this assassin?" Now it was Wei Yao's turn to be curious.

know?

Not really.

It was only because she called out to Yuwen Sheng in the bamboo forest of Wujue Temple that this assassin was able to survive until now.

She shook her head: "I don't know him, but you brought him back. You can't just keep him locked up here forever, can you?"

Wei Yao glanced at the assassin: "This assassin is no ordinary person. He should be from the Ninth Autonomous County of Beiyuan Kingdom. Killing him would be too much trouble, but releasing him is impossible. We can only keep him locked up like this for now."

Nine self-governing bodies?

This name sounds so strange. Is it a place name or the name of an organization?

Her curiosity wasn't particularly strong about this, so she didn't continue the conversation. She stepped forward and said, "Let's go then."

They walked through a corridor with alternating light and shadow, and then arrived at the place where the bandits were imprisoned. Basically, each cell held seven or eight people. Although it wasn't crowded, it was definitely not spacious. As she walked past the cells without looking to the side, she felt a sense of unease.

The bandits looked at her with a mixture of malice and resentment when they saw her again.

Zheng Quchi did not make any eye contact with them, pretending that she had not seen anything. Then she saw Xiao San and Xiao Qi being locked up alone in a cell.

The two little ones seem to be asleep now, curled up in a ball on the straw, the two brothers snuggling together for warmth.

However, everyone else was detained together, so why were the two of them alone in a separate room?

Wei Yao noticed the doubt in her eyes and replied, "Seeing that Madam seemed to treat them differently, she separated the two of them from the others."

Zheng Quchi did not refute Wei Yao's probing question; she nodded and said, "Yes, what about Xing'an?"

“He was interrogated alone last night, so he is still in the interrogation room.”

As soon as Zheng Quchi approached the interrogation room, she keenly smelled a faint scent of blood. She walked through the corridor filled with various chilling instruments of torture and, sure enough, saw a slender, dark figure hanging up.

Xing'an?

As she approached, Wei Yao took an oil lamp from a nearby niche to provide light for her.

He lifted his slightly sticky and moist eyelids, saw that it was her, stared at her for a moment, and then said in a hoarse voice, "Zheng Quchi."

When Zheng Quchi was suddenly called by his full name, he couldn't help but shiver.

...It's all because of the low temperature underground.

"It seems the person isn't completely senile; they still remember my name."

He chuckled listlessly: "I will never forget your name."

Why does this sound like a vengeful ghost?

She stopped arguing with him and said directly, "I came here this time just to ask you one thing. If you answer honestly, I will have them stop torturing you and will even treat your injuries."

She thought her conditions were good enough. Who would waste medicine to treat and heal a death row inmate like him? Countless people are tortured to death in terrible conditions after being tortured, their wounds festering and oozing pus.

Xing'an didn't refuse: "Okay, what do you want to ask?"

She asked Wei Yao to give her the lamp, then gave her a look. Wei Yao understood that the lady wanted to have some time alone with Xing An, so she stepped back and walked away, leaving them enough space and time.

Seeing Xing'an's drooping, listless eyes, Zheng Quchi unconsciously relaxed and asked, "Xing'an, I've been wondering ever since you came back. Your martial arts skills must be very high, right? I don't know exactly how high, but why did you seem to never put up any resistance from beginning to end? Did you know you had no way out and were willing to surrender, or were you actually plotting something?"

Her kidnapping was actually a delaying tactic. She had considered that Xing'an might be able to capture her instead, but she never thought that she could keep him under her control. However, things went unexpectedly smoothly, and he did not show any particular emotional fluctuations until he was captured.

This is clearly not normal.

Upon hearing this, he nodded frankly: "Yes, I am indeed planning some things."

really.

Zheng Quchi's eyes were clear and bright: "What is it?"

She asked the question naturally, and he answered even more readily: "Guess."

Zheng Quchi: "..."

Guess your sister's guess.

"You said you'd only ask one question, and I've already answered it, haven't I?"

As for her further questions, that's a separate issue, and it's not within the scope of their transaction.

Zheng Quchi knew he wouldn't tell her so easily, but at least she guessed right; this guy was secretly planning something.

“I’ve only counted you as answering half of this question. I won’t force you to answer the other half, but you have to answer one more question for me,” she said.

Xing'an, however, immediately saw through her thoughts: "You want to ask about Xiao San and Xiao Qi?"

This person's reaction speed is truly terrifying. Zheng Quchi felt that he might not be able to handle him. If Yuwen Sheng were here, that would be great. It's always been others who are afraid of him, not him.
