Zheng Quchi no longer needed to send anyone to investigate; she already knew from Qiu who the prime suspect was who was collaborating with the bandits.
Later that day, she summoned Lan Yue, who was in charge of "reconnaissance".
Lan Yue was the only woman among the four, but she didn't recognize her at first.
Because Lan Yue has dwarfism and is only four feet tall (about 120cm) even as an adult, and because they are all covered up in their uniform black team uniforms, she initially thought the other person was a nine or ten-year-old child.
But then I thought, that's impossible. Why would Brother Wei send a child to protect her?
So she remained calm and observed his face carefully for a moment. Lan Yue seemed to be used to others probing her, and she said directly, "Madam, Lan Yue is a dwarf and is now twenty-two years old."
Her voice was as childlike as a child's, but her tone was calm and steady. This contradictory feeling immediately distinguished her from ordinary, childlike children.
Upon hearing this, Zheng Quchi immediately understood.
She smiled and said cheerfully, "Blue Moon is a nice name. Who named you that?"
"It was chosen by me."
Seeing that the lady's expression was normal and that she didn't ask what a dwarf was, but instead praised her own name, Lan Yue's tense and agitated back finally relaxed slightly.
What is the purpose of taking it?
Lan Yue didn't expect the lady to continue asking questions. She paused for two seconds before slowly saying, "There are twelve or thirteen full moons every year. Lan Yue is the name of a full moon that cannot be matched with the season. It is the extra full moon that is not one of the twelve."
And she was that extra "full moon".
This sensitive and melancholic emo mood doesn't seem like something a grown man would have, especially considering the name Blue Moon leans towards a more feminine and gentle tone...
Zheng Quchi looked at Lan Yue's resolute and square face. Her hair was piled on top of her head, her hands were large, her back was straight, and although she was short, she had a magnificent and imposing presence. She sincerely uttered a single word: "Good..."
Upon hearing this, Lan Yue looked up in bewilderment, her expression blank, while the other three were also puzzled as to what the lady meant by saying "okay".
"……rare."
Blue Moon pondered the word, then repeated, "So...rare?"
What's so rare about her? A dwarf like her, or Blue Moon?
Zheng Quchi followed her slightly evasive gaze and said, "I haven't heard of your explanation, but who has ever seen a blue moon? I certainly haven't. If someone had, it would be a 'rare event.' So, in my opinion, a blue moon originally meant something that was impossible but miraculously happened..."
At this point, she deliberately slowed down, as if waiting for Lan Yue's reaction. Sure enough, Lan Yue was drawn in by Zheng Quchi's words and stumbled straight into the pool of light golden water where she had been waiting. Zheng Quchi then smiled and continued, "Just like you are standing in front of me now."
Lan Yue was stunned and remained silent for a long time.
Does the lady think it's a miracle that she was able to meet her?
Because she was so rare… she unconsciously blurted out her inner thoughts: “Doesn’t Madam think I am both ugly and strange?”
"I don't think so," Zheng Quchi said outright.
Fearing Lan Yue wouldn't believe her, she added, "You're not ugly. Your ears, nose, mouth, tongue, and eyes are all in the right places. How are you ugly? You're not strange either. You're just a little short. You're not missing any arms or legs. How are you strange? Lan Yue, you are a little different from others, but no one has to be the same as others. You've survived until now through your own tenacity and hard work. You've never given up on yourself, and you've even become a remarkable general. That's a rare and precious miracle."
Zheng Quchi originally wanted to build a good relationship with her guardian, which is a common phrase in adult social interactions. However, as she spoke, she became serious and expressed her true feelings.
But she didn't expect that people in ancient times were reluctant to express their feelings to the outside world, and were even less adept at hearing such straightforward praise and enthusiastic words.
Her sincere words were like a playboy flirting with a novice in love—they struck a chord deep within someone who had spent half a lifetime with an unmoved heart.
"Madam, you flatter me, you flatter me." Lan Yue's face flushed slightly, and she suddenly felt a little flustered.
She wasn't nearly as good as the lady had described. Although she did have all her features, limbs, and no physical defects, she knew she still wasn't pretty.
The other three people had mixed feelings when they saw Lan Yue's tiger-like shyness.
Lan Yue was rarely praised, no, no one ever praised her at all.
They all treated her like a brother, a colleague, and a man. They would usually just praise her for her competence. But seeing her blush and act shy after being scolded by the madam, they just wanted to say—Lan Yue, wake up! They had heard similar things before!
Besides Lan Yue, who was in charge of "reconnaissance", the rest were Wu Liang, who was in charge of "assassination", Kong Li, who was in charge of "interrogation", and Sixi, who was in charge of "cleaning up". They had long known that the lady looked honest, but she was very good at sweet talk and could often make people lose their bearings with just a few words.
Yet, she was so sincere that no one could find a trace of deception.
There were no acting techniques involved; it was all about the outpouring of emotion.
They were both overjoyed and trying their best to maintain a cool and collected demeanor.
Zheng Quchi felt that his relationship with his subordinates had become even stronger, so he stopped trying any tricks.
She instructed Lan Yue, who was in charge of "reconnaissance," to gather some people to search the various neighborhoods for any suspicious individuals.
