Swoosh—
A rusty iron sword was pressed against Zuo Shangfang's neck. Following the blade, he met a pair of cold, clear eyes, like glass.
"Do you believe that I can kill you right now and still walk out of here unscathed?"
Nan Gui's eyes widened, and he was forced to tilt his head back, feeling the chilling killing intent emanating from his skin. His hands and feet went numb, and he stammered, "I...I am a court official, you...you dare not..."
Zheng Quchi grinned at him, revealing two devilish fangs: "Who do you think I am? What wouldn't I dare to do?"
Whose wife?
She was Yuwen Sheng's wife, the only Supreme General of Ye Kingdom, the one who once held immense power and influence in the court... Nan Gui suddenly thought of Yuwen Sheng and felt a sense of terror rising from the bottom of her heart. Even though rumors were spreading that he was dead, his lingering power could still frighten the timid.
Nan Gui's face turned pale and then red. She wanted to call for help, but she was afraid of angering her and causing her to kill her to silence her.
In the end, he had no choice but to succumb to her threats and immediately begged for mercy, saying, "I'm sorry, Madam General, I was talking nonsense. Please spare my life."
Beitang Mu, who was standing next to him, was overjoyed, but he quickly concealed it. He pretended to be anxious and said, "Madam General, please don't be impulsive. Although our Minister Zuo has neglected his duties and failed to handle important matters properly, you cannot use private punishment. Please spare his life."
Hearing that he was shouting so loudly that it would easily attract the guards outside the warehouse, Zheng Quchi glanced at him and said, "Shut up."
Beitang Mu immediately fell silent, and in the meantime, he gave Nan Gui an apologetic look and a helpless expression.
Nan Gui also realized at this time that Yuwen Sheng's new wife was not a normal woman. She might have married her husband because of their similar cruel nature, which led them to kill each other at the slightest disagreement.
He naturally didn't want to die, so he had no choice but to be pragmatic and slid to his knees with a "plop".
“Madam General, it was Nan Gui who was blind and did not recognize your greatness. I offended you. I was wrong and I apologize to you.”
In all his years, Zheng Quchi had never witnessed before the utter lack of integrity and pursuit of trivialities by petty people.
"Nan Gui, are you afraid that His Highness will find out about your dereliction of duty?" She patted his shoulder with the rusty iron sword in hand.
His face stiffened, and he stammered, remaining silent for a long while.
He didn't know how to answer. If he answered yes, he would be admitting his "crime," but if he answered no, he would be lying to the general's wife and being stubborn.
“Nan Gui, if we report this to His Highness along with your previous attempt to offend me, your crime will be much more serious. It’s possible that not only you but your entire family will be implicated,” Zheng Quchi said slowly.
Nan Gui was terrified and broke out in a cold sweat, not knowing what to do: "Madam General, this humble servant did not mean to..."
Zheng Quchi didn't want to hear his excuses, so she interrupted him: "However, I can give you a chance. I need you to prepare a batch of the finest weapons in Ye Kingdom in the warehouse before the Six Kingdoms Military Trials, and then polish and maintain them properly. They must not be inferior products. Hand them over to me when I need them, understand?"
Upon hearing this condition, Nan Gui was stunned for a moment, and stammered, "Madam, it's not that I don't agree, but without the imperial decree, I dare not move the military reserves in the warehouse without authorization. If this is discovered, it would be a crime equivalent to treason."
"Don't worry, I will go through the legal and compliant channels to approve the weapons. You just need to equip them according to my requirements."
Upon hearing this, Nan Gui immediately nodded: "Good, good, this subordinate will definitely take care of this matter for the General's wife."
Zheng Quchi sheathed his sword, worried that the Queen might interfere. He said meaningfully, "Nan Gui, you'd better open your eyes and look outside. The wind has changed. Don't be so foolish as to not see the situation clearly and join forces with the thieves."
Nan Gui was startled, his bowed body trembling slightly. After a long while, he said, "This humble servant will remember."
Seeing that she had finished her persuasion, Zheng Quchi added, "In addition, I need you to manufacture a batch of custom-made guns within three days. This matter cannot be neglected, and you must do your best to accomplish it for me."
"A gun?" Nan Gui and Bei Tangmu were taken aback.
When Beitang Mu thought of the long spear from Nan Hong Kingdom that she had mentioned before, his heart tightened. Would the long spear she wanted to make be very difficult to manufacture? If it really had to meet the standards of Nan Hong Kingdom, three days would probably be far from enough.
“Yes, guns.” Zheng Quchi nodded.
Beitang Mu asked somewhat nervously, "What kind of gun is it?"
Zheng Quchi said, "Javelin."
Nan Gui and Bei Tangmu exchanged a glance; clearly, neither of them had ever heard of this "javelin." They then shook their heads: "We haven't heard of this spear. Perhaps the General's wife could describe it to us, and we can design one according to your requirements. However, three days is far too difficult..."
Zheng Quchi glanced at them and said, "You don't need to worry about it. I have already designed the javelin. You just need to be responsible for mass production. Produce as many as you can, as long as the quantity is large enough."
"We will do our best..." Nan Gui said, bowing and scraping.
She pulled out a design draft from her crossbody bag: "This is the blueprint for the javelin. I require you to create it exactly according to the standards I have drawn, without any compromise."
Nan Gui stood up from the ground, took the javelin with both hands, and looked at it. Bei Tangmu also came over to take a look. He found that the "javelin" was not as complicated and difficult to make as he had thought.
