The two armies are now like those grayed-out portraits, utterly despondent.
“Even if we join you, our numerical advantage will be useless. The three-bow ballistae of the Julu Kingdom are incredibly lethal, a fact known throughout the six kingdoms. Once they lock onto our location, escape will be nearly impossible. If a battle breaks out, we will have no chance of winning except to die.”
"Since your Ye Kingdom is at war with the Julu Kingdom, I think you should abandon this camp and take advantage of the opportunity to swim away across the lake."
Each of them started with all sorts of discouraging remarks.
But it's not surprising that they had this idea, since the difference in strength between Julu Kingdom and Ye Army was obvious to everyone.
Zheng Quchi reached out and brushed the drizzle off her shoulders. The armor and helmet were heavy and didn't fit her well, so after inspecting them, she took them off.
Now she is dressed in a soft, fitted men's robe, which is light and not heavy, but it does allow her to move around easily.
However, her innate aura did not come from the heavy armor she wore, nor from fighting on the battlefield, so what she wore or how she dressed was irrelevant.
“If they were to charge at us with real weapons, I’m not sure I would have a good idea of how to deal with them. But if they’re going to use these kinds of weapons against the Ye army, that would be perfect, since that’s exactly what I’m good at.” Zheng Quchi smiled. She was petite and harmless, with a slender frame and a soft, white face.
"Furthermore, you're also mistaken. The advantage in numbers isn't useless; on the contrary, it was the key to our victory this time."
Most people present did not believe her words, including Ye Jun. On the contrary, they all thought she was talking nonsense.
Is she naive or ignorant? Are the three-bow crossbows of Julu Kingdom so easy to deal with?
The Julu Kingdom has spent so long researching and finally developed such a powerful weapon. It is an essential tool for attacking cities, killing enemies, and long-range shooting. It has caused so many countries to toss and turn in worry and lose sleep. How could she possibly crack it with just a few words?
But some people, still hoping, asked her, "What...what do you mean by that?"
Just listen to that tone; the moment the question is asked, there's an unsettling feeling of being out of touch with reality, yet you can also detect a hint of boundless anticipation.
In the past two days, Deputy Officer Zheng made many arrangements for them. Almost everyone in the Ye Camp who could catch their breath was busy running around. During the day, they were exhausted like dogs and panting from the heat. Sometimes they even had to work overtime at night to catch up on their work. They were suffering terribly.
At first, they were all full of resentment, cursing her in their hearts, thinking that she was just making trouble for people and doing useless things.
But as it turns out, their understanding was too superficial; they mistook a pearl for a fish eye.
Everything that Deputy Zheng did seemed unrelated and insignificant, but in the end, it proved to be the reason why they were able to survive until now.
So even though she said that her idea of "turning defeat into victory" in the hands of the Julu Kingdom was so unrealistic, they still didn't take it as her talking nonsense. Instead, they hoped that she could lead them to overcome their predicament, just like before.
Zheng Quchi turned around, raised his head, and looked at a swaying lamp hanging on the support pole of the cowshed, where raindrops, like beads, continuously gathered and slid down like a curtain...
Looking up, the heavy rain pattered down from above, merging with the darkness and surrounding them, just like their current predicament of isolation and danger.
"Do they understand mathematics?" she asked.
"Huh?" The soldiers all looked at her blankly.
She pointed outside and said, "Look, the raindrops appear to us as a continuous line, impossible to avoid. But if you look at the ground, when the raindrops fall onto the water's surface, they create ripples and bubbles, indicating that there are gaps between them."
"oh……"
I understood it, but it also felt like I didn't.
"If we calculate these gaps in time, could we try to pass through without getting wet?" she asked casually.
One person quickly realized what was happening and immediately retorted, "That's impossible. Even if you could calculate it, a person couldn't possibly pass through such a short gap."
Upon hearing this, Zheng Quchi nodded in agreement: "Indeed, the density and speed of rain are predetermined, and even if it were calculated, it would be impossible for humans to do so. But if we were to calculate the ranged firing rate and impact point of the three-bow crossbow, do you think we could dodge it?"
Everyone was stunned by these words.
By calculating the tension of the bowstring, the straightness of the crossbow shaft, and the tilt angle of the bow arm, the trajectory equation can be calculated, thus accurately determining the final landing point of the crossbow bolt.
“Three hundred crossbows can fire three hundred bolts at a time. It takes about fifteen minutes to adjust the mechanism before the next round of stringing, winding, and firing. If you deviate from their range, they will need even more time to repeatedly adjust. This is the biggest drawback of large-scale machinery: long string and weak aiming, which can only be used for large-scale area shooting.”
Upon hearing this, they stared at Zheng Quchi in disbelief.
"You can calculate the firing rate, range, and landing point of the Julu Kingdom's three-bow crossbow? How is that possible?" The more they listened, the more they felt that she was talking nonsense and indulging in wishful thinking.
Zheng Quchi replied, "Nothing is impossible. As long as there is enough data to lay the foundation, everything in this world can be calculated."
Of course, that's a bit of an exaggeration. It might be theoretically possible, but in reality, she's far from reaching that level.
Her previous act of sending people to sneak close to Julu Kingdom on a rainy night was not simply to provoke Julu or frame the Southern Chen Army and Hongsheng Army. Her main purpose was to collect data on the three-bow crossbows nearby.
