Are they playing a game of tag here, eagle catching chicks?
"They've probably discovered the location of our ambush," the adjutant of the Julu army guessed.
She Kou thought so too. Their three hundred crossbows were not placed in an inconspicuous location, and a light mist was swirling around them, especially from such a distance. But if you looked closely, you could still spot them aiming from among the low bushes.
"Now that we've discovered them, there's no need to resort to underhanded tactics. Let the Julu Army guarding the northwest border force them back to us!"
The adjutant was about to give the order when he stopped and turned back: "Huh? They're back again? This time they're running towards the camp, but why have they scattered?"
"What on earth are they up to?" She Kou frowned.
To be honest, She Kou didn't understand the perplexing behavior of the Ye army either; it seemed like they were using a very new tactic.
Sometimes they were a single entity, sometimes they scattered like loose sand, sometimes they formed several square formations, and sometimes they became a long line. In short, they ran around so freely and without any order, leaving the viewers completely bewildered and confused.
But precisely because they were so disorganized and scattered like sand, it really made it difficult for them to know which direction to shoot.
"Has the Ye army gone mad?" the adjutant was dumbfounded.
After a moment's thought, She Kou understood: "Ha, they're just putting up a stubborn resistance. Do they think we can't hit them? Immediately send two thousand Julu soldiers to surround them!"
She Kou didn't want to waste any more time, so he immediately sent two thousand soldiers forward to put pressure on the Ye army.
Sure enough, when the Ye army saw the enemy attacking, they were so frightened that their souls almost left their bodies. Knowing that they were no match for the enemy, they stopped trying to escape and instead tried to return to the Ye camp.
Seeing them like lambs to the slaughter, herded into a sheepfold by hunting dogs, seemingly prepared to be killed, the Julu army was already sharpening their knives—
"Hurry, hurry, we've been running them around for so long, that should be enough time. They're about to fire their crossbows. Have you found the marker?"
The Ye army was truly in a panic; there's a saying that describes them as feeling like they had thorns in their backs, and that's exactly what they were feeling now.
"This is it. There's a taut vine rope on the ground as a marker. The ditch should be one or two steps behind this rope."
Of course, they could only see flat ground now, because the trenches had been concealed in advance to prevent the Julu army from noticing anything amiss.
