Chapter 33, Final Chapter (19)

Plop, plop, plop... Water droplets fell from the sky like a torrential downpour. Bei Yuanjun touched one; it was warm and wet—it was water.

They were stunned, their faces filled with confusion.

But they were quickly jolted by the cold; the water that was hot one second was now icy cold, piercing into their bodies the next.

Could it be that the Ye army is trying to freeze them to death with hot water?

Because of the close-range projectiles, and because the enemy had to be careful when crossing the wide ditch, the Ye army's water bubbles were almost always successful. When the hot water landed on the "Iron Horses," they initially didn't take it seriously and were even amused by the Ye army's whimsical idea, laughing heartily.

The Beiyuan army all thought the Ye army had gone mad, or that they were mentally ill. What threat could splashing water pose? But to their surprise, the once steady "iron horses" gradually became immobile, creaking and groaning like rusty iron.

When they saw that they had stopped for no apparent reason, they quickly went up and knocked on them vigorously to ask what was wrong, only to find that the people inside were shouting in even greater panic, "What's going on? We can't open it!"

"What does that mean? Why is it not moving?"

When someone inspected it, they discovered that there was a reason why the "iron horse" was not moving: a layer of ice had formed on its joints and was frozen solid. Not only that, but all the gaps in the metal of the iron horse were also covered with frost.

Even the most foolish among them finally understood the Ye army's conspiracy. They panicked and rushed forward to try to break the "iron horse" out of its frozen state with their knives. But in such extreme cold, it was no easy task.

"Hey? Look, the Northern Abyss Army's iron cavalry has stopped moving!"

"Yes, it's really not moving anymore!"

"Oh my god, it really works! Our hot water really works!"

Ye Jun was overjoyed. His previous dejected and tense expression changed instantly. After witnessing the effectiveness of this method, and realizing that the once imposing and fierce "Iron Horse" was no longer a threat, Ye Jun threw off his weapons and took out his life-saving weapons from the weapon box behind him. This time, he charged forward with all his might without holding back.

This battle was a true clash between two armies, without any additional siege equipment.

A gust of wind swept across the faces of Gongshu Jiruo and Hou Feiqing in the distance, causing their robes to flutter. They were stunned and taken aback.

"...I never expected that the iron horses I created would have such a fatal flaw," Gongshu Jiruo said, almost in disbelief.

Hou Feiqing was trembling all over: "Who could have imagined this? I knew it, I knew that once Zheng Quchi appeared, nothing good would come of it. Before, I was glad that she didn't come to the battlefield to cause trouble and that she was hiding to save her life. Who would have thought that she was not an easy person to deal with at all? She didn't come out because she was planning all of this behind the scenes!"

"Why are you so sure it's her?" Gongshu Jiruo asked rhetorically.

Hou Feiqing was taken aback, surprised himself, and immediately realized it was her.

"Is it...is it that hard to guess? Just like soldiers who understand weapons, she is the only person in the entire Ye army who is familiar with and proficient in all machines. She can see through and analyze the flaws in the iron horse and accurately destroy its power source. She is the most likely one." Hou Feiqing became more and more excited and more and more certain as he spoke.

Gongshu felt a lump in his throat and remained silent for a long while before finally saying, "Yes, it can only be her."

——

Yuwen Sheng led Zheng Quchi in a fierce and rapid advance, eventually breaking through all restrictions and obstacles, and successfully returned to the territory of the Ye army.

After setting the person down in a safe place, he turned to return to the battlefield, but Zheng Quchi exclaimed in surprise, "Your injury..."

He laughed dismissively, "I won't die. As long as you're here, even if I go to the underworld, I will return to the mortal world."

This weather is already cold enough, why tell scary stories?

And... that wasn't some kind of injury that wouldn't kill you, was it?

Zheng Quchi paused for a moment before saying, "Yuwen Sheng, you always say you went to the battlefield for me, for the promise you made back then, but I don't think that's entirely true..."

He paused, looking silently into her eyes, as if listening to what kind of reasoning she was about to give.

“Every time you are on the battlefield, you do not deal with it in a childish or frivolous manner. You plan carefully and deploy your troops like a god. This is something that everyone has praised and admired. This is not something that can be done casually. When you do something seriously, it means that you want to protect your soldiers. You care about their lives. Although you are not conscious of it, there is a power in your heart.”

For a moment, Yuwen Sheng seemed unable to understand the meaning of her words, until she finally concluded: "You don't live for yourself, but all these years you have lived for these soldiers and for the suffering people of Ye. If you have no beliefs, you can live by becoming someone else's beliefs. Therefore, Yuwen Sheng, your existence has long become very valuable and meaningful. You are far more important and indispensable than you think."

Stop thinking you don't want to live anymore, and stop erasing your own existence. Dwelling on the past will only lead to depression and depravity. You are no longer that "bastard child," but have become Yuwen Sheng, the great general and guardian deity of Ye Kingdom.

...Take better care of yourself.

Finally understanding what she meant, the murderous intent on Yuwen Sheng's face melted away considerably. In the end, he didn't say anything, only humming in acknowledgment, and then led all his soldiers to fully engage in the battle.

After he left, Zheng Quchi felt uneasy, even though her body was safe. She noticed that the drummer in the distance had been shot dead at some point, so she quickly walked forward and climbed up to the large drum that was about a meter high.
