Chapter 33, Final Chapter (19)

"I've always been a madman..." His scarlet lips still curved into a soft arc, but it sent chills down one's spine, like a wooden sculpture, an expression that had been sculpted.

Zheng Quchi cupped his face in her hands and haphazardly wiped away the blood gushing from his lips and neck: "I know you're going crazy, but don't go crazy yet, just bear with it a little longer."

That's something that makes you both laugh and cry.

However, her words of advice came too late. The next moment, his eyes suddenly changed, turning a deep red that almost swallowed up the clarity that had remained in his pupils, and the gaze fixed on her was chilling.

Zheng Quchi was both angry and anxious, and speechless with emotion.

Even though he was seriously injured, he dealt with her as easily as handling a chick. Ignoring the blood streaming down his face, he reached out and grabbed her shoulder tightly, preventing her from escaping. Just like a wolf that has caught its prey and, to prevent it from escaping, bites through its throat first.

Before he could grab her wrist with his other hand and turn her into a plucked chick, she managed to throw something into her mouth and then was shoved heavily to the ground.

Uh...

He showed no mercy, slamming her to the ground like a sack of potatoes, the suffocating pain in her back causing her face to contort in agony.

Yuwen Sheng opened his mouth and then bent down.

"Trying to bite me again, huh?"

She scoffed, her face pale. But after being bitten by him several times in a frenzy, she had developed a certain level of shrewdness.

Just as he was about to bite her shoulder, she turned her head and then, unexpectedly, straightened up, tilting her head back to block his bloody lips. Before he could close his mouth, she quickly pushed the contents of her mouth against his.

At this moment, Yuwen Sheng had no romantic feelings or emotions in his mind, only the irritable and anxious feeling of being blocked and torn apart, until a sweet taste awakened his bitter taste buds, and he was stunned and motionless.

He often smelled this sweet fragrance on the person beneath him, so every time he couldn't help but want to bite into her flesh and drink in that sweet taste to fill the emptiness in his heart and feel that fragrance that could bring him some peace of mind.

This time, however, it was a genuine fruity sweetness, very familiar, just like he used to love it, often letting it linger on his lips and teeth...

Seeing that he was stiff and motionless, Zheng Quchi loosened her grip on him and took the opportunity to pull out one hand, wiping the blood that had returned to the corner of her mouth with her fingertips: "You've suffered enough, so eat something sweet. From now on... live a more carefree and happy life."

Yuwen Sheng frowned, his body's memory telling him to chew the food in his mouth and swallow it. After a moment, his sinister and perverse expression eased, and the bloodthirsty red in his eyes also subsided a little.

Zheng Quchi didn't miss the change in his expression. She breathed a sigh of relief: "This is the last bit of Shenmu Dream. Every time I fed it to you, you frowned and complained that it was bitter. So I mixed it into sugar and carried it with me... It came in handy in an emergency."

He seemed to hear her voice, and spoke in a dull and hoarse voice.

"Quchi... I often miss our life in that farmhouse in Fuxian County. Back then, you would go out to work to earn money, and I would wait for you at home. You would cook for me, dress me, and carve portraits for me. Every time you came back, you would bring me candy... I had lost all my sense of taste, and everything tasted like wax, but the candy you brought back made me taste 'sweetness' again. Later, I tried to buy it myself, but it didn't taste the same at all..."

He paused, straightened up, and then grasped his sword firmly in his hand.

"This is the first time I've ever had a home."

He tilted his head slightly, and with a backhand slash, he cleaved the charging horse in two. The fallen cavalryman rolled in fear, but before he could escape, his throat was slit by the sword.

“I never thought about how long I would live. After I’ve taken my revenge on the people I wanted to kill, after I’ve fulfilled my promises, after I’ve lived to the point of loathing everything, I can fall anywhere.”

His figure appeared and disappeared amidst the smoke of battle, yet it terrified the enemy.

"But now, I can't bear to die."

"No, not now, but a long time ago, when you came into my world, I wanted to live more and more each day."

"I once said that a member of the Yuwen family only marries one person in his lifetime. There is no divorce, only death. As long as I live, you will always be Mrs. Yuwen. But I can give you a choice: do you want me to live or die?"

His expression was calm, but his deep, swirling eyes were already filled with madness. He stared at her shocked eyes, as if trying to find the answer he wanted in them.

Zheng Quchi, lying on the ground, hadn't even had time to get up when he was bombarded with this question, leaving him completely bewildered. Seeing how inappropriately he was asking such a thing on the battlefield, he really wanted to call him a madman: "Behind—"

It was as if he had eyes in the back of his head; he coldly swung his sword backward, and another batch fell instantly.

Zheng Quchi took a deep breath. Despite his serious injuries, he was still so fierce and monstrous. He truly deserved the title of "Living Yama." In his current state, he didn't look like he was about to die.

"Speak."

He wanted to force her to give him an answer.

He entrusted his life, whether it be life or death, to her.

Provoked by him, Zheng Quchi became somewhat rebellious and blurted out, "What nonsense are you talking about? If I want you dead, do you really think you'll die in front of me?"

Yuwen Sheng remained silent. He had thought he had the patience to wait for her to give him an answer, even if it took a lifetime. But just now, when he felt he would never have another chance to come to his senses, he changed his mind. He didn't want to wait anymore.
