Chapter 4 Please Calm Down

Zheng Quchi climbed up the limestone to a higher point, where she could observe the river's bends and flow from a greater distance. She also picked up a twig, marked it with her fingernail, and then measured it proportionally.

Once she gets into work mode, her eyes become dark and deep, and she mentally organizes and stores a series of measured numbers.

She went down to the riverbank, picked up a suitable piece of rotten wood, threw it in, and after it drifted a certain distance, she measured its speed to obtain the water flow speed.

She squatted down and used a twig to write formulas on the sand. She calculated very quickly, and soon a series of complex data appeared.

"...Based on the water speed, it would take about twelve minutes for a 30-foot log to reach the middle and lower reaches of the riverbed, but due to a lack of tools, we cannot accurately measure all the data. So let's give it a maximum of half an hour."

After completing the measurements and estimates, she was confident of success.

While measuring the narrowest distance across the river, she inadvertently noticed something floating on the surface of the river.

Upon closer inspection, it seems to be a person, right?

Her brow furrowed, and although a sense of unease crossed her mind, saving lives was paramount, and she jumped into the water with a splash.

"Hey, are you alright? Wake up!"

After dragging the man ashore, she slapped his face, but he didn't react. His face was pale and cold. Based on her limited medical knowledge, she guessed that he must have drowned.

First aid methods include artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation... Emergency measures flashed through my mind in an instant.

"...Luckily, there's no one around in this desolate place."

Otherwise, if others saw her performing CPR, they would definitely think she was taking advantage of someone in distress.

With saving lives as her top priority and disregarding the difference between men and women, she lifted his chin, took a deep breath, and leaned in.

She was completely focused, but the sudden closeness allowed her to see the other person's face clearly – her eyes were suddenly and stunningly struck, and she swallowed back the ethereal aura she had been holding back.

She froze, her lowered body still, staring intently at that face brimming with sexual tension.

She didn't know why, even though there were so many more suitable options, the first one that came to her mind was this evil adjective.

A high nose bridge, thin lips, a clear and delicate jawline, and an Adam's apple... Even from this unflattering angle with nostrils pointing upwards, this person is still so handsome that it's hard to look away.

The person pretending to be unconscious had slightly trembling black eyelashes, their thoughts flicking like the tongue of a colorful venomous snake waiting for its prey to strike.

He deliberately disguised himself as so vulnerable and harmless, which should best satisfy his murderous desires.

He suddenly felt his chin being lifted up...

Um?

Choking or strangling, or force-feeding poison?

He waited and waited, but the other party made no further move. Just when he was getting impatient, something soft and warm touched his lips, making him freeze instantly.

Whew~ Whew~

...What the hell?! Blowing air into his mouth?!

The group of people who were hiding in the shadows had been on high alert, but when they witnessed this scene, their faces were completely shocked.

Holy crap! Their retainers and generals were actually humiliated by a mere enemy craftsman?!

When Yuwen Sheng realized what the other party had done to him, a twisted and cruel killing intent surged into his heart, his eyes filled with blood, and their eyes met.

When he opened his eyes, his dark gaze, through a layer of scarlet veil, seized her, allowing her to see clearly the pair of bewildered, foolish dog-like eyes in hers.

Two seconds later, Zheng Quchi pounced like a bear, grabbing his arms and pinning them to his sides.

"You...you calm down..."

A low, clear voice, like shattered jade, swept across Zheng Quchi's eardrums, making him shudder.

"I am very calm."

He tried to get up, but was surprised to find that she was incredibly strong.

Zheng Quchi firmly suppressed him, accusing him of lying: "How can you be calm? Your eyes are red with anger! I bet you think I bullied you just now, but I have to tell you seriously, this is a first aid method. If you don't believe me..."

oh?

He was always unpredictable, and even those who had been by his side for years often couldn't discern his emotions. She seemed careless but was actually quite perceptive, able to sense his thoughts the moment he suddenly felt murderous.

In fact, Zheng Quchi was exaggerating. It was because he had a vermilion veil tied around his eyes, which vaguely revealed a pair of mysterious, deep, narrow pupils that looked extremely ominous and exuded a terrifying aura.

"Is that so?" He used his internal force to push her away.

He slowly sat up, his long, jet-black hair cascading down his snow-white neck. His soaked black clothes clung to his abdominal muscles, revealing his perfect physique.

"I really don't believe it."

A faint smile played on his lips, but though he was smiling, his eyes were devoid of emotion, making it all the more chilling.

Zheng Quchi shook his numb palms, a sense of crisis rising in his heart.

"You're awake now; facts speak louder than words."

Yuwen Sheng didn't care what she said; he wouldn't allow someone who had defiled him to continue living in the world.

She rose gracefully, her tall and slender figure instantly softening her sickly appearance after falling into the water. However, the veil binding her eyes and head swayed in the wind, its movement creating a beautiful splash of red across the pool.

Zheng Quchi looked away, thinking to himself, how could a man be so good at seducing people?

Just as he was about to make his move, he heard her ask, "Is this yours?"

She crouched down just in time, skillfully avoiding his fatal blow, and picked up a palm-sized wooden box from the ground.

That is—"Don't touch it."

Yuwen Sheng's expression changed.

Zheng Quchi stared intently at the box. It was a rectangular box with copper ornaments at the four corners. It had no nail-shaped knob or pull ring, and he couldn't open it no matter which way he tried.
