Chapter 42 The Drama Queen Couple (Two chapters combined)

Qiu's usually calm voice was now urgent and panicked, which showed just how dangerous their situation was.

Zheng Quchi, who was still a little dazed after waking up, suddenly became alert.

Yuwen Sheng?!

When did he go and provoke that living devil?!

"What the hell did you say? They caught up with you?" She tightened her arms around his neck.

Qiu suddenly found it hard to breathe and squeezed out a breath, saying, "It's that ghost Yuwen Sheng catching up."

Zheng Quchi immediately turned around reflexively and vaguely saw a fleeting figure getting closer and closer. He didn't know if it was a side effect of his eyes being poisoned, but in that blurry black and green patch, the swiftly moving figure was like a dark red burning flame. Wherever it went, birds were startled and sparrows flew away, and not a blade of grass grew.

Hey!

That's terrifying!

"Run! Run!"

Zheng Quchi turned around and quickly patted Qiu's shoulder to urge him on.

Sweat dripped from Qiu's forehead onto her eyelids as she gritted her teeth and said, "I need your help."

What kind of help can I offer?

She's half-blind, how could she possibly aim at someone moving at high speed?

"My eyes are blinded by poisonous smoke. Now, I can't recognize my own family from three feet (1 meter) away, I can't distinguish between humans and animals from thirty feet away, and from a hundred feet away, it's like the beginning of chaos, like Pangu creating the world!"

After hearing her words, Qiu's lips twitched: "Then think of a way to stall him."

He has recently developed a strange trust in Zheng Quchi, believing that she can always be reliable in crucial moments.

Zheng Quchi swallowed hard, trying to calm himself down.

She touched the veil on her face; it was still there. Then she felt the knot at the back of her head, which was tied in her usual way—a bow. It seemed that Yuwen Sheng probably hadn't had a chance to see what she looked like yet.

Since her identity as "Sang Xuanqing" has not been exposed, she must not let Yuwen Sheng have a chance to catch her.

Her ambition was instantly ignited. She hooked the crossbow at her waist with her toe, reached out and grabbed it, then twisted her waist and aimed it backward.

"I remember you said that your crossbow was meant to protect me in secret, but now you're using it against me?"

A hoarse, cold, and sharp voice rang out from behind, like a demon from hell. Zheng Quchi should have been angry, but he heard the voice laughing, which was extremely twisted and perverse.

Qiu was startled, as if she was shocked by the content of his words.

Zheng Quchi could only think that this was a huge misunderstanding. She never expected that a casual flirtatious remark would be taken seriously by Yuwen Sheng.

Oh, or perhaps it's not that they believed it to be true, but rather it's the nature of rhetoric; they had to use a divisive tactic to play tricks on them.

She squinted, but still couldn't see clearly, so she simply closed her eyes.

Her ears strained to catch every sound, and she told Qiu, "Tell me, what's ahead? The more details the better."

Qiu quickly understood what she meant, and so, being a man of few words, she tried to describe it concisely and meticulously: "Thirty paces away, there are four large trees standing side by side. The third one, a banyan tree, is covered with vines. To the left, there is a cedar tree that is mostly withered and decayed. About a hundred feet away, there is a downhill slope. I've checked it out; it branches into three paths. The middle one has a pile of rubble and mud pits, another one is open with tall trees, and the last one is narrow and winding, hidden by grass..."

Based on his description, Zheng Quchi quickly rehearsed the corresponding scene in his mind: "Go past the third tree covered with vines, walk on the right, and tell me when you are about seven steps away."

Qiu was surprised that she came up with a solution so quickly, and nodded.

"good."

Qiu's heart raced, and she ran so fast that she was almost leaving a blur.

"arrive!"

Zheng Quchi suddenly opened her eyes, taking in the blurry scene before her. Although she couldn't see the details clearly, she judged based on the distance and the general outline of the objects. She mentally marked a point, pointed the crossbow forward, and swiftly fired an arrow at the treetop.

When~

The arrow's fletching trembled, and large clumps of withered leaves fell in a flurry. Using the leaves as cover, she squinted and, in that brief moment, reached out and yanked down a thick, long, withered vine.

She used great strength, with a ruthless determination to eradicate the other party's "offspring" as well, and immediately the sparse vines drooped down.

Although Qiu was naive, he wasn't stupid; he deeply doubted, "Will this work?"

"Of course it's useless."

Zheng Quchi's answer was perfectly reasonable.

Autumn:"……"

Then why are you acting all smug, like you've won so much?

Sure enough, the barriers that Zheng Quchi had torn off were as thin and brittle as paper. Yuwen Sheng, who had caught up from behind, casually slashed them to pieces with a sword, creating a swirling gust of wind.

However, what he didn't expect was that what he thought was an ordinary roadblock would give him a big surprise.

After the vines and wood were chopped up, countless reptiles fell down like rain, including several snakes and a spider that had been tragically relocated.

Yuwen Sheng's face stiffened, and he glanced at him sideways.

He immediately stopped, and with a palm stroke across his shoulder and neck, he cleaved off a large, writhing black patch.

More were crawling slowly and intricately on his hair and clothes, but the colorful venomous snake seemed to have gained intelligence. Just as it was about to land on him, it sprang away at lightning speed, as if afraid that if it was a step too late, it would suffer a thousand cuts.

Qiu turned around and looked back strangely, and Dang Shengche was dumbfounded.

"What's going on? You deliberately pulled on the vines just now for this purpose? But how did you know?"

Since getting to know this different Zheng Quchi, Qiu, who was always quiet and reserved, has changed. She has become a curious child, finding everything new and surprising, and her mind is full of a million questions.

Zheng Quchi breathed a sigh of relief, but she wasn't particularly smug: "Anyone with wilderness survival experience knows that jungles are full of snakes, insects, and rodents, especially in places like this one next to dead trees with dense vines. These are the easiest places for these dark insects to hide. If you make a big move and destroy their nest, a bunch of bugs will definitely fall down on you."
