Chapter 18 My Extra Expensive

baffling………

Chen Shiyu, with his hair half-tied up, wearing a lake-blue straight robe and holding a folding fan, walked step by step to Jiang Wei.

Suddenly, he shook his hand and opened a folding fan in front of his chest.

Jiang Wei looked at him like he was an idiot, "Aren't you cold in the middle of winter?"

Chen Shiyu wasn't angry. "Look at you, still living in the capital, acting like you've never seen the world."

Chen Shiyu fanned himself with a folding fan in front of her, saying, "Which scholar or poet doesn't hold a folding fan when it's windy or rainy? It's a symbol of culture."

"Yes, yes, yes, my second cousin has been practicing martial arts since the rooster crows, he must be very knowledgeable."

Jiang Wei deliberately mocked him, saying, "Second cousin, are you planning to take the exam next year? Are you planning to bring back the top scholar for your aunt?"

Everyone in the Chen family knows that Chen Shiyu is bad at business and bad at studying, but good at eating, drinking and having fun—a typical playboy.

To become the top scholar? He's been driven crazy all these years and only managed to pass the county-level exam, he can't even pass the provincial-level exam.

Let's make fun of him!

Chen Shiyu smiled mysteriously, "Mine is different from theirs."

He fanned Jiang Wei twice more, saying, "Mine is especially expensive. Can't you smell the sandalwood fragrance in the wind?"

Chen Shiyu stroked the fan surface, saying, "This fan surface is made of gold-flecked Xuan paper, the painting is a plum blossom picture personally painted by Mr. Meishan, and look at this fan pendant, it's a top-quality Hetian jade pendant, isn't each one worth a fortune?" He was proud and complacent, showing off his wealth.

“You used to have a keen sense of smell; you could spot any delicious food.” Chen Shiyu was only a few months older than Jiang Wei, and the two had fought a lot over food when they were kids.

Jiang Wei glared at him, then walked straight onto the carriage, ignoring him.

Chen Shiyu stood beside the horse, pointing his folding fan at Jiang Wei, "You heartless ingrate! I came all this way to see you, and this is how you treat me? You didn't even offer to show me around properly."

Jiang Wei entered the carriage without looking back and lowered the curtain.

Chen Shiyu wasn't angry. He told the servant to move the food and trinkets that had been placed at the door onto the carriage.

Jiang Wei noticed that the carriage hadn't moved for a while, so she lifted the curtain and saw the servants carrying several boxes and baskets onto the carriage!

Jiang Wei raised her chin arrogantly, "That's more like it, hmph."

Chen Shiyu laughed in exasperation and held out his hand, "Give it to me?"

Jiang Wei asked, puzzled, "What?"

Chen Shiyu put his hands on his hips, "So, I prepared a whole bunch of things for you, and you didn't even give me a small gift."

"Aren't you my cousin? Why would a cousin need a gift? If you were my younger cousin, I would certainly have something to give you."

"It's not like we've met for the first time. Besides, I treated my maternal grandfather, uncle, and aunt to dinner, and you got to eat there too." Jiang Wei was deliberately mocking him, listing everyone except him.

We used to bicker every day when we were kids, and after all these years apart, we haven't changed at all.

Just like when they were kids, neither of them would give in.

At this moment, Chen Shiyu pretended to be angry, but in his heart he felt extremely sorry for his cousin. "So I'm just a nobody after all. Go away, go away..."

"Let's go!" Jiang Wei lowered the curtain, and the coachman drove the horses away.

"You're really leaving?" Chen Shiyu shouted from behind.

Jiang Wei smiled warmly inside the carriage. It felt so good to have family around.

She will cherish them in this life.

Chen Shiyu strolled along the streets for an hour or so, and managed to find out most of the hot news in the capital.

The first thing was that Jiang Wei's fiancé slept with his wife's younger sister before marriage, and those people described it in great detail.

Chen Shiyu took the silver to the Jingqing Pavilion they had mentioned and sat opposite a manager who looked to be around forty years old.

With his wealth and arrogance, he tossed the silver notes aside and said, "Find a few skilled thugs, preferably ones who won't kill him but will make him suffer."

The manager of Jingqing Pavilion asked him who he wanted to hit, and Chen Shiyu wrote down a name on a piece of paper.

"Please wait a moment, sir. This involves powerful and influential people, and I cannot make decisions on my own. I must consult my master."

“What wouldn’t a fallen noble family dare to do?” He didn’t believe that a thug shop that dared to open in the capital city had no one behind it.

The manager smiled kindly and told Chen Shiyu to wait a moment before taking the note and going up to the third floor.

A short while later, the manager came downstairs and said that business was available.

Chen Shiyu took a sip of tea and leaned back in his chair. "How much silver?"

"Two hundred taels!" The steward held up two fingers.

"How much?" Chen Shiyu raised his voice, incredulous.

Is it really that cheap?

No matter how he asked, the manager wouldn't give a reason, just smiled apologetically.

Those people, it's not like they're asking for at least 500, except for powerful and high-ranking officials.

This is such a great deal!

He glanced at the money he had taken out of the table; it wasn't much.

He quietly picked up three hundred-tael bills and gave them to the steward, saying, "Brothers, you've worked hard. Please treat them to drinks."

"Be serious! This isn't something I can haggle over. I'll check the results," Chen Shiyu said before leaving.

After saying that, he pointed to his eyes with two fingers.

After leaving the Jingqing Pavilion, Chen Shiyu strolled back unsteadily.

The clan leader was furious. When he left the Marquis of Chang'an's mansion, he thought, "What kind of high-ranking and powerful families are they? They're utterly shameless."

If it weren't for his official position in Qinghe, he probably would have said even harsher things. This old man with gray hair might have stormed out of the manor in anger, his words, though seemingly righteous, were actually sharp and sarcastic.

They were determined to force Jiang Wei to marry into their family, and they even made it clear, both openly and subtly, that they had twice embarrassed Jiang Wei because of the Jiang family's daughters.

The loss of face was severe. Only by having Jiang Wei bring enough dowry to marry into the family and bring Jiang Rou to be a concubine on the same day as her wedding could the Marquis's mansion barely be compensated.

They not only wanted the two daughters of the Jiang family, but also wanted to marry wives and concubines.
