"Even the maids in your room are eating fresh fish and shrimp, but the proper masters of the mansion are not. How do you manage this household?"
'Heh…' So he still cares about her things. "Is it Father who wants to eat, or them? If it's Father who wants to eat, I still have some. If it's them who want to eat, then no." Jiang Wei said decisively without hesitation.
She then added, “I remember that my father didn’t like these things because he thought they were too fishy. I used to stop eating them because he didn’t like them. Now, I get scolded by my father for eating them. Aunt Liu and her daughter have eaten them a lot over the years, and my father has never said anything about it.”
From now on, they are not allowed to touch any of my things, no matter who pleads for them. As for what dishes to eat, they can eat whatever the manor supplies. If they want something that the manor doesn't have, they can pay for it themselves, and I have no objection.
One more thing: whether the kitchen adds chili powder to Aunt Liu's food separately or to everyone in the mansion is something you can easily find out by asking. If Father wants to know, he can go and ask someone. I don't want to know, so I won't keep you company.
Dewdrop went to fetch the master a plate of shrimp and a small fish, as he dislikes fish because he finds it fishy.
If you can't get the favor, then let it go.
Jiang Wei was too lazy to explain to him and moved back into the house. "Father is really biased and easily fooled by a woman. No wonder he's been in the position of doctor for so long."
"Father, take care." Jiang Wei turned and went back to her room without looking back.
Jiang Zai Shui stood there, filled with anger and resentment. Although his daughter had a bad temper and was disliked and annoyed by him, she was still easy to control if he wanted to. He could just ask her a few words of concern and then punish her however he wanted, and she would obediently endure it.
Now it seems to have spiraled out of control, which frightens him.
In the past few days, Jiang Zai Shui has come to see Jiang Wei every time with anger, and left every time with even greater anger.
He didn't get the slightest advantage from Jiang Wei. "Are you trying to anger your father to death? I'm still the one who calls the shots in this family. You've even sent someone to break off the engagement with Prince Song."
What are you still acting so arrogantly about? If the Marquis of Chang'an really doesn't want you anymore, who will be your backer? Just wait and see how your father deals with you then.
Everything concerning the masters of the manor must be done according to the same standard. There's no reason for your daughter to have a separate set of rules; if word gets out that the Jiang family…”
Jiang Wei stopped in her tracks. "Hasn't the Jiang family already lost all face? Your beloved daughter is having an affair, and you can't hear about it outside?"
A father might actually turn a deaf ear to his beloved daughter, rather than pity his concubines and illegitimate daughters.
Instead of worrying about how to earn more money to support them, I should think about how to earn more money myself. It's unreasonable to think that just because I've used my mother's money to support them for over ten years, I have to keep doing so indefinitely.
Jiang Zaishui actually earned quite a bit from the Ministry of Revenue, but over the years, Aunt Liu has been living up to Chen Xuening's standards in everything she does, and she has been spending the money that the Chen family gave to Jiang Wei and her daughter excessively, so he has no money left.
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Jiang Zai Shui's eyes were bloodshot, and he walked towards Jiang Wei.
Jiang Wei sneered, "Father, do you think I don't know? This courtyard we live in now is all under my mother's name." She said, enunciating each word clearly, "What do I know!"
Jiang Zai Shui was startled, and the hand raised above his head suddenly stopped.
Song Tingxuan went to his duty as usual today. The commander called him in, and he assumed that the order to promote him to deputy commander had come down, so he was overjoyed.
Unexpectedly, it was done so quickly. He walked in with light steps to see the commander.
But the news they heard was not what they expected.
The commander told him that he no longer needed to come to work from today, and that someone would take his place.
When he gave him the money, he promised to promote him to deputy commander so that his title would be secured, since his family had been in the same lineage for three generations.
He has been the heir apparent since childhood. When his father, the Marquis of Chang'an, passed away, his desire to inherit the title was suppressed, and he is still the heir apparent to this day.
After much pleading and persuasion, he finally learned from the commander that someone wanted to dismiss him from his post, and that person held a high position of power.
The reason is what happened in the last two days. He just couldn't control his feelings for Rou'er at Zuichunlou. Whose business is it?
He couldn't understand why he was dismissed. He wanted to know who did it, but no matter how he asked, the commander wouldn't say.
After leaving the place where he was on official business, Song Tingxuan randomly found a tavern to drink alone.
He drank alone until 7 PM before heading home. On his way home, he encountered some thugs in an alley. They robbed him of his valuables and beat him up.
He had the worst luck today.
He was beaten black and blue, and two of his ribs were broken. The pain sobered him up completely.
The next morning, the sky was overcast and suddenly several degrees colder than the day before. The plum blossoms under the courtyard wall bloomed and danced in the cold wind.
Dewdrop and the others wore cotton vests over their cotton-padded jackets.
Jiang Wei's room was as warm as springtime thanks to the iron pipes. She had a comfortable dinner last night and slept soundly without any dreams, so she woke up late this morning.
Jiang Wei stretched out her fair, slender hand outside the quilt and turned over, her ink-black hair painting a watercolor on the bed behind her.
Dewdrop walked to the bedside and whispered a few words to Jiang Wei. Jiang Wei mumbled a reply and then fell asleep again.
Jiang Wei slept for another fifteen minutes when Lu Zhu came in from the outer door again. "Miss, Miss, the Lady of Chang'an Marquis has sent someone to invite you over. Wake up, Master wants you to come over."
Jiang Wei stretched on the bed, got up and let her long hair fall down behind her, covering her slender waist. She walked to the dressing table to wash up in her nightgown.
