Chapter 22 Emptying the Marquis's Mansion, Going Home

Lady Chang'an raised her head and saw Jiang Wei standing there calmly and unmoved.

She couldn't help but get angry, "What, do you think you can defy heaven? Disrespecting your mother-in-law is a serious crime."

Face and courtesy still had to be maintained, so Jiang Rou hurriedly pleaded with the Lady of Chang'an, "Madam, my sister didn't mean to offend you. She must have caught a cold to be late. Please forgive her this time!"

Well, it's better not to ask for this favor at all. Jiang Wei is standing there perfectly fine, her complexion is rosy, and it's easy to tell at a glance whether she has caught a cold.

Song Fangfang saw that Jiang Wei was wearing a complete set of the most fashionable red gold headdress at the time, a rouge-colored waist-cinching long dress, and a matching short jacket with white fox fur trim around the cuffs. On top of that, she wore a bright red cloak with dark patterns embroidered in gold and silver thread.

So luxurious, it made Jiang Wei look even more like a noble lady than she, a noble lady of the Marquis's mansion, while she looked like a maidservant beside her.

Song Fangfang was furious. She was about to marry into the Marquis's family, but instead of giving her gifts as before, he was no longer doing so.

She used to bring me the latest fashion items from outside so I could choose what I wanted, but lately she's stopped trying to please her sister-in-law and expects me to give her a friendly look. No way.

Jiang Rou did this better than her; whenever she showed interest, Jiang Rou would give her a brand new set.

Jiang Wei looked at Song Fangfang's expression and knew exactly what she was thinking.

Before she married into the Marquis's mansion in her previous life, whenever she saw Song Fangfang, she would give her anything she liked or took a fancy to.

Later, Song Tingxuan said that this was not good, and that she was afraid others would laugh at her. She said it was okay, just consider it as a gift from her sister-in-law in advance. But the things she asked for became more and more expensive.

Song Tingxuan wouldn't allow it, saying that no one should spend their future wife's money before even entering the family. Even if she married into the Marquis's mansion, she could only spend her dowry herself. She was happy for a moment.

Later, after marrying into the Marquis's family, Song Fangfang always asked her to buy things for her. Not only that, even if it was Jiang Wei's, as long as it was something she valued, she would take it directly if she wanted it.

Song Tingxuan said, "If she wants it, just give it to her, since she's your sister-in-law."

Jiang Wei walked to the side and sat down. "Mother-in-law? I've never seen a daughter-in-law who's not yet married into the family need to go to her future mother-in-law's door to establish rules."

"Who told you to sit down?" Song Fangfang said angrily, "You really are an ill-mannered person who lost his mother."

'Heh...' Jiang Wei sneered, 'You have a mother, but I don't see how much upbringing you have.'

Jiang Wei looked directly into the eyes of the Lady of Chang'an, "If you look down on me, why don't you break off the engagement? Is there something about me that you can't bear to part with? What could a sixth-rank official's daughter like me possibly have..."

What the Marquis's family wants is obvious.

Lady Chang'an gripped her teacup tightly in anger. "What else could it be? If you hadn't deliberately fallen into the water and set up my Xuan'er, would my Xuan'er have had no choice but to ask you for his hand in marriage?" Her eyes seemed to say, "You're not worthy!"

Jiang Wei's gaze fixed intently on Jiang Rou. "How did I fall into the water? Didn't you tell Madam Hou back then?"

Jiang Rou panicked, thinking, 'Could she know something? They were so discreet, and Jiang Wei used to trust her so much. Could it be that her recent bad attitude towards her is because I found out about this? Impossible!' Jiang Rou immediately denied it."

She steadied herself and forced a calm demeanor. "Sister, what are you talking about? Why do you want me to tell Madam about your drowning? Didn't the Marquis's family go to propose marriage because they knew you fell into the water and were rescued by the Heir Apparent and had intimate relations with him?"

Jiang Rou feigned ignorance; if Jiang Wei hadn't been reborn, she probably would have been fooled.

No wonder they're a family; they're all cut from the same cloth.

"If you don't want people to know, then don't do it in the first place. Now that I'm here, this marriage is definitely off." Jiang Wei was too lazy to waste words with them.

“I know what the Marquis’s mansion wants. Now I’ll tell you clearly, I can’t give it to you, it’s impossible. Even if I throw my money into the river, you won’t get a single cent.” Jiang Wei showed no mercy.

Lady Chang'an threw her teacup at Jiang Wei, saying, "What nonsense are you spouting? When has the Marquis's mansion ever asked for your money?"

The teacup flew to Jiang Wei's eyes, but Lian Sang blocked it with her hand, and the teacup landed straight at the feet of the Lady of Chang'an Marquis.

Lady Chang'an was so frightened that she jumped up and said, "You have really gone too far! Disrespecting your mother-in-law, I will punish you for a serious crime of disrespect."

Jiang Rou already knew from Song Tingxuan that the maidservant beside Jiang Wei was not a gift from Song Tingxuan. She never expected her to be so bold as to commit violence in front of the Lady of the Marquis.

Jiang Rou was also frightened, but she rushed over to support Lady Chang'an, and said in a trembling voice, "Even if you don't acknowledge Lady Chang'an as your mother-in-law, she is still an elder. How could you do this?"

Jiang Wei couldn't help but chuckle, "Elders? I wouldn't dare presume to associate with a den of wolves like the Marquis's mansion."

"You...you...you..." Lady Chang'an was so angry that she couldn't speak on her birthday.

With bloodshot eyes and a contorted face, Song Fangfang strode over, saying, "You vile woman, you're causing trouble in my Marquis's mansion! You're asking for death!"

Before her slap could land, Lian Sang grabbed her and pinned her to his back.

Song Fangfang was bent over and unable to move, cursing and shouting for her to be released.

Lian Sang frowned. She really didn't expect that the daughter of a noble family would be so foul-mouthed, even more vulgar than the common people. She picked up a rag and stuffed it into his mouth, finally giving him some peace and quiet.

Lady Chang'an was furious when she saw the maidservant beside Jiang Wei being so audacious, pointing her finger and shouting, "How dare you... how dare you..."

"Men, seize Jiang Wei and her wicked servant!" A burly old woman walked in, rolled up her sleeves, and headed towards Jiang Wei.

In no time, Lian Sang had knocked all the old women down, and they were crying out in pain on the ground.

Lady Chang'an was so angry that she slumped into a chair, and Jiang Rou helped her soothe herself.

Her breathing gradually calmed down, and after a while, she realized that no one had ever dared to be so presumptuous in front of her. "Guards! Guards, seize this slut and beat her severely!"

The servants came in carrying sticks and surrounded Jiang Wei. Dewdrop shielded Jiang Wei behind her, saying, "Don't be afraid, young lady."

Seeing that Lu Zhu's face was pale, Jiang Wei patted her arm and said, "Don't worry, Lian Sang might have been beaten."

"Young lady, you're still joking at a time like this? There are so many people in the Marquis's mansion." Dewdrop bit her lip, her eyes carefully watching the people in front of her, afraid that they would get past her and hurt her young lady.

Jiang Wei handed the teapot on the side table to Lu Zhu, who glanced at it and said, "Miss, I'm not in the mood for tea right now."

"As a weapon," Jiang Wei said.

"Oh." Dewdrop quickly took the stick from her hand and picked up two more sticks from the side.

Dewdrop was so nervous that she picked up the teapot and gulped down the tea.

Lian Sang noticed that Lu Zhu's hands were trembling slightly. This girl was naturally cheerful, and although she herself was usually quiet and cold towards her, Lian Sang still fed her with a smile every day.

My heart softened. "You don't trust me? You always said I was the best, but it turns out you were just flattering me."

Lian Sang deliberately teased Lu Zhu, who quickly said no. She glanced at Jiang Wei, who smiled back and nodded.
