Chapter 28 A Big Embrace

Lian Sang had no choice but to run to the other side, avoiding the side where Jiang Wei and the others were hiding.

Scarface and his men rode horses, and Lian Sang quickly fell behind, being surrounded by them.

The man with a full beard rode his horse leisurely up to her and said, "Tell me, which family does your daughter belong to? Maybe I can spare her."

They used a combination of coaxing and deception.

Lian Sang, of course, did not believe him and naturally refused to tell him. What if these bandits heard it and used it to slander her daughter's innocence?

She didn't believe they would be so kind, and even Sang tried to reason with them, saying, "What girls? I was just out on business for my master, and I hid because I was scared."

The bearded man stroked his thick beard. "I'll ask you one more time. If you tell me where I hid her, I'll let you go."

He repeated, "You only get one chance, so I hope you can make the most of it."

Lian Sang shook her head. "I really don't know what you're talking about."

Scarface rode up to the bearded man and said, "Brother, why are you arguing with her? Where could a woman run off to? Just search around here, and we'll definitely find her. As for this maid, break her legs and take her up the mountain as a reward for the brothers."

The bearded man surveyed the woods on the other side, looking at Lian Sang with a smile as if he were looking at prey. "You think I wouldn't know where she's hiding if you didn't tell me? I'm just giving you a chance."

Seeing that Lian Sang had no intention of speaking, the bearded man sneered, "Break her legs and give them to the brothers."

Riding his horse to the other side, Lian Sang untied the whip from her waist and lashed it at him.

Upon hearing the sound, the bearded man turned to the side, dodging Lian Sang's whip.

He grabbed Lian Sang's whip and pulled it towards him. Lian Sang's feet were firmly on the ground, and with a forceful flick of his wrist, he pulled the whip out of the bearded man's hand.

The bearded man laughed, "Second brother, you go and catch that woman, I'll stay here and play with her."

Standing atop the tree, Jiang Wei saw that the two groups of firelight had gathered together and lingered there for a long time.

She clung to the tree trunk and waited and waited, but Lian Sang never returned.

Did they discover Lian Sang, but not know if she had hidden herself away?

After a while, the flames moved toward her, and Jiang Wei held her breath and remained motionless, clinging to the tree.

At this moment, Jiang Wei noticed a hissing sound coming from above her head.

Jiang Wei seemed to have thought of something, her back went cold and she broke out in a cold sweat, her hands trembling as she hugged the tree trunk.

She mustered her courage and looked up. Above her, a dark shadow as thick as bamboo was crawling towards her, its body bent over. Jiang Wei's eyes widened, and she bit her lip, so nervous that she forgot to breathe.

Suddenly, the long, black shadow, as thick as bamboo, swung its supple body and its head was right in front of Jiang Wei, its tongue flicking at her.

Jiang Wei was so frightened that she forgot she was in a tree. She nervously let go of her grip and fell from the top of the tree with a cry of "Ah..."

She was sure to die if she fell from that height. Jiang Wei was unwilling to accept it, as she was about to see her younger brother whom she had never met before.

How could she die like this? No, she can't just die like this.

If she were to die like this, she would be letting down the second chance God had given her; she hadn't finished avenging herself yet.

No matter what, she had to survive. Jiang Wei opened her arms to see if she could get caught on a tree branch.

Jiang Wei didn't land on the thick branches; instead, her hands were scratched by the small, thin branches.

Jiang Wei waited and waited, but no branch came to catch her. She thought she was going to fall to the ground and shatter into pieces.

Unexpectedly, a pair of hands caught her and carried her to the ground.

Jiang Wei smelled the cold aura emanating from him, leaned against his hard chest, and noticed the faint sandalwood scent on his body. She immediately realized that this person was not Lian Sang.

Those people with torches haven't arrived yet, so who is this person?

Jiang Wei didn't care about anything else, struggling in the man's arms, "Thank you for saving me, please put me down."

As if he hadn't heard her, Jiang Wei called out again, "Put me down, I can walk by myself." The man still ignored her and carried her through the darkness.

Jiang Wei felt a chill run down her spine. Had she encountered another group of bandits? This was hopeless.

Jiang Wei pounded on the man's chest, "Put me down, put me down."

"Don't move." In the darkness, the man's expression was obscured, but Xiao Zhan's magnetic voice rang in Jiang Wei's ear.

Seeing that hitting him was useless, Jiang Wei braced herself against his chest and fled.

"Don't move, or you'll fall and hurt yourself," Xiao Zhan warned her, frowning.

Jiang Wei was focused on escaping and didn't pay any attention to what he was saying; she just kept struggling.

Jiang Wei struggled desperately in Xiao Zhan's arms, but Xiao Zhan wouldn't let go.

Jiang Wei couldn't push him away no matter what she did, but she didn't give up and still tried desperately to escape.

Even though she was exhausted, she dared not rest. Since she couldn't push him away with her hands, she rammed her head into him.

Jiang Wei used every method she could think of, and with all her might, she headbutted him.

"Ah," Xiao Zhan groaned in pain in his chest. This girl is really ruthless.

Jiang Wei already had a bad reputation, and now she only wanted to survive, completely disregarding the possibility that others would find out she had escaped from the bandits.

No matter how much spittle she might be bombarded with, she only wanted to live a good life and be with her loved ones in this second life. She didn't care about any of that, since she had no intention of getting married anyway.

Seeing that she couldn't break free, Jiang Wei calmed herself down and said to the man, "Hero, hero, please let me go! My maternal grandfather is the richest man in the world. If you let me go, I'll have him give you as much money as you want."

"As long as you let me go back unharmed, you'll have mountains of gold and silver to spend." Jiang Wei pushed him away forcefully with both hands and negotiated with him.

"Behave yourself." Xiao Zhan couldn't help but laugh when she said she would give him mountains of gold and silver.

"If you keep making a fuss, those bandits will come looking for you. Do you think it's safer to fall into their hands, or to stay with me?" Xiao Zhan asked her as they walked.

Jiang Wei fell silent and stopped moving. Although it was not safe for him, he was alone, and it would be easier to escape once he relaxed his guard.

First, feign compliance with him, then find an opportunity to escape.

Jiang Wei instantly made up her mind not to offend him. "Brave warrior, please let me down. I won't be a burden to you. I can walk. Thank you for saving me. Otherwise, I would be dead. I will definitely repay you handsomely when I get back."

"How will you repay me handsomely?" Xiao Zhan asked her curiously.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wei became interested and said there was hope. "How do you want me to thank you? If you say you can do it, I will definitely do it."

As long as it's not murder, arson, or anything that violates moral principles, it's acceptable.

"I'll ask you for it when I've thought it through," Xiao Zhan replied.

Jiang Wei felt something was off about those words, but she couldn't quite put her finger on why.

Judging from what he said, he probably wouldn't hurt her.

To appease him, Jiang Wei agreed without hesitation, "Okay."

She had to escape first. In his arms, Jiang Wei dared not move, her hands placed on her chest, and he said, "Put her down."
