Chapter 4: A Loving Mother and Filial Daughter?

When Li Mama saw her mistress enter, she immediately felt that she could be saved. Since her mouth was gagged and she couldn't make a sound, she used her body to make some noise.

Sure enough, Aunt Liu saw it.

Granny Li hated Jiang Wei to the core. Now that Aunt Liu had arrived, she was sure she would support Jiang Wei. Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed, trying to gain more sympathy from Aunt Liu.

"You lowly servant, release her now!" Aunt Liu roared in fury. Had she really gone too far?

Chen Huili ignored her and stood there motionless.

Aunt Liu stepped into the house, intending to teach Jiang Wei a lesson.

Jiang Wei leaned back on the chaise lounge with her eyes closed, disdainful of looking at her to avoid offending her eyes, and placed the hot water bottle on the brocade quilt.

Aunt Liu walked to the chair and sat down, deliberately coughing lightly, but Jiang Wei did not react at all.

Aunt Liu slammed the teacup on the table again, but Jiang Wei still didn't react.

That bitch really thinks she's about to rise to the top and become a noble person, and doesn't take her seriously at all.

Upon seeing this, the head maidservant beside Aunt Liu exclaimed, "Young lady, young lady, Madam is here!" Her tone carried a hint of disdain.

Jiang Wei didn't even lift her eyelids, but frowned in displeasure.

Aunt Liu wished she could tear her apart. She was putting on airs with her, not even realizing who she was in now.

Aunt Liu raised her eyes and glanced at the head maid beside her. The maid, receiving the signal, walked over and said, "Young lady, your mother is here. How can you be so ill-mannered, still asleep? Get up quickly and greet the madam." As she spoke, she reached out to pull Jiang Wei up.

No sooner said than done, Miss Lian Sang darted out from the doorway, grabbed Aunt Liu's head maid, and threw her to the ground.

Jiang Wei looked at Lian Sang with surprise. "Are you that good at fighting?"

Miss Lian Sang quickly bowed, saying, "I'm sorry to have startled you, Miss."

No wonder her maternal grandfather was so good to her, and all the people he gave her were so capable. No wonder Song Tingxuan in her previous life absolutely refused to let her take them with her.

"I've been here for so long, and you're still so neglectful. I've never treated you badly before! Today, your sister said you hit her, and I even defended you. I never thought you would actually do it now, not putting the Jiang family or your father in your eyes. I've really wasted all these years of pampering you." Aunt Liu pretended to feel sorry for you.

A single sentence, "You don't respect your father," is enough to brand Jiang Wei with the stigma of being unfilial and ruin her reputation.

Jiang Wei was disgusted by her constant use of the term "mother." Did she even deserve it?

“What have you done wrong? Get up! It’s just some cats and dogs disturbing your sleep.” Jiang Wei sat up, not even looking at Aunt Liu.

Jiang Wei took the tea, took a sip to moisten her throat, and said, "Drag this maid away to stop talking nonsense."

Aunt Liu slammed her hand on the table. "Do you have any respect for your elders? You disrespect your elders, do you understand etiquette and hierarchy? You even dare to hit the people around me. Is this how I've raised you all these years?"

"Disrespectful to elders?" Jiang Wei sneered, her eyes growing colder. "What kind of elder are you, a mere concubine? To put it nicely, you're half a mistress of this mansion; to put it bluntly, you're nothing but a servant. I am the legitimate daughter of the Jiang family. What right do you have to educate me?"

Over the years, I've only shown you a little respect, and you've taken it all for granted, thinking you're the master of this mansion. Don't you even know your place?

“Logically, you should bow to me,” Jiang Wei said, glancing at her sideways.

When has Aunt Liu ever suffered such humiliation? For so many years, Jiang Wei has always been obedient and subservient to her.

Aunt Liu's fingernails dug into her flesh; she wished she could drink Jiang Wei's blood and eat her flesh.

"Master." A maid's voice rang out from outside.

'Hmph…' A smug look flashed across Aunt Liu's face. She sat down lightly on the ground, tears streaming down her face, which was full of sorrow.

Over the years, she has become adept at acting, keeping Jiang Zaishui completely in line, as well as that fool Jiang Wei.

"What's going on now?" Jiang Zaishui frowned in displeasure as he entered the room and saw Aunt Liu sitting on the ground.

Aunt Liu seemed unaware that Jiang Zaishui had entered. She hurriedly wiped away her tears, and the head maid quickly helped her to her feet. She forced a smile and said, "Master, it's not Wei'er's fault." Then, as if she had said something wrong, she quickly added, "It's not the eldest young lady's fault. I fell down on my own."

"Master, you haven't eaten yet! Let's go eat. Today I made your favorite Lotus Pond Moonlight. Although it's not as delicious as in summer, it's still a rare treat in this winter." Xiao Xinyi glanced at Jiang Wei, her eyes reddening, and choked out, "This concubine... this servant will serve you your meal."

Jiang Zai Shui helped Aunt Liu up and frowned as she asked Jiang Wei, "What did you do to your mother again? Your mother worked so hard to raise you, how can you be so disobedient? Go kneel in the ancestral hall yourself."

Jiang Wei was already used to her good father punishing her without even knowing the facts.

In her past life, she endured her father's indifference many times in order to gain his love.

Later, she married into the Marquis's family, and her father's attitude towards her improved.

Her father was determined to use the connections of the Marquis's family to pave the way for him.

But the Marquis's mansion didn't have any connections for him to use. Song Tingxuan used her money to pave the way, and his father even blamed her for not being attentive.

“My mother? My mother died when I was six years old. Does Father think my mother is still living in Xue Lan Courtyard?” Jiang Wei’s words were full of coldness. “Father probably doesn’t even remember that such a person ever existed!”

Jiang Wei's mother was pregnant before she passed away, and her father never set foot in Xue Lan Courtyard to visit her.

He often used being busy outside as an excuse, but he still visited Aunt Liu quite often.

Later, her mother died in childbirth, and she never saw him shed a single tear. Even though men don't easily shed tears, surely they should feel sadness, but he never did.

Several months later, when Aunt Liu gave birth to his son, he actually shed tears. She thought he didn't know how to cry!

She just wouldn't cry for her mother.

If Jiang Rou hadn't told her before she died in her previous life that her mother hadn't had a difficult childbirth at all, and that her mother had even given birth to a younger brother, and that it was Aunt Liu who killed her mother and then left her younger brother to be raised in a country estate, where the estate's manager would bully and torment him.

Jiang Rou also said that her younger brother did not survive the winter. When Jiang Wei thought of this, a tear welled up in her eye. But thankfully, she still had time to save her brother in this life.

"When Father wakes up in the middle of the night, does he never dream of my mother?" Jiang Wei looked at Jiang Zaishui with a desolate expression. Of course, she knew that he had never thought of her mother and might even wish for her mother to die.

“My mother has been appearing in my dreams lately, saying that my father promised her a lifetime of love and respect for her. Although a new woman later entered the household, she doesn’t blame you. It’s normal for men to have multiple wives and concubines. She says that the only thing to blame is that she died young and couldn’t stay with my father or watch our children grow up.”

She said she would wait for you and Aunt Liu downstairs, and it would be wonderful for the three of you to keep each other company. Jiang Wei glanced at Aunt Liu as she finished speaking.

Sure enough, Aunt Liu's face turned pale, and she tightly gripped Jiang Zai Shui's sleeve.

Jiang Zai Shui looked pale and a little guilty, but quickly recovered and pretended to be affectionate and righteous, "Ning'er, why don't you come to see me! I often think of the time we had together."
