Jiang Nian clutched her heart, her brows still furrowed.
"I don't know if it's because of memory loss."
"I always feel that there is an emptiness here in my body."
It's like forgetting someone important.
Jiang Ren's hand suddenly stopped.
The young lady's memory had clearly been erased; she didn't remember anything that happened in China, let alone anything about that man.
But she still felt an emptiness in the place where her heart was.
So, has that man left such an important mark on her subconscious?
"……No."
Jiang Ren took a deep breath.
In the end, he only said one sentence.
"...Miss, don't overthink it."
When Jiang Nian returned to the room, Lu Zhaokun was still there. He was sitting in his wheelchair, staring blankly at the courtyard outside the floor-to-ceiling window.
The bright, cool moonlight streamed through the window and fell upon him, casting a silvery glow on his features.
His perfectly angular profile was like that of a god, handsome and divine. Even his gaze, looking down from above, seemed to carry a certain pity and compassion.
Jiang Nian often felt something was off.
Lu Zhaokun has such an attractive face, yet his methods are so cruel and cold-blooded.
Aside from her, she had never seen a man show the slightest affection for anyone else.
Upon hearing that she had returned, Lu Zhaokun turned his wheelchair around.
The cigar between his fingers was still shrouded in lingering smoke, and his deep phoenix eyes slightly lifted: "Have you asked everything you wanted to ask?"
“Hmm,” Jiang Nian responded, frowning slightly, “but I don’t remember anything he said. My head hurts whenever I try to recall it.”
“If you can’t remember, then don’t think about it,” Lu Zhaokun said calmly. “Come here.”
Jiang Nian always listened to Lu Zhaokun.
Even though her father could be strict with her at times, she knew that all his control and guidance were for her own good.
So she walked over.
"You still haven't told me what happened to your leg."
Jiang Nian reached out and touched the thin blanket covering the man in the wheelchair's knees.
Was it an accidental injury?
Or was he ambushed?
There's another question she doesn't understand either.
"You were injured, why didn't I treat you?"
With her medical skills, if Lu Zhaokun were injured, even if the man didn't have Western medicine perform surgery on him, she should have treated him.
No treatment is needed.
Lu Zhaokun said calmly, "It's fine to just endure the pain like this."
He killed her friend, causing her such grief.
There has to be something to give in return; it's about making it up to her.
Jiang Nian frowned even more and pursed her lips: "But this is very inconvenient for you."
She reached out to help him check, but was suddenly grabbed by the man's hand.
"Um?"
She subconsciously looked up.
But his gaze met Lu Zhaokun's deep eyes.
Lu Zhaokun's hands were very beautiful, long and slender with distinct joints, and the back of his hands had a sickly white tinge.
As someone in a position of power, he rarely handled a gun himself.
Therefore, unlike Jiang Ren, his fingertips were not rough; there were only a few slight calluses on the fingertips.
He raised his hand and first touched the girl's hair. Then he traced her brow bone and gently touched her cheek.
It felt like I hadn't seen her in a long time.
"……What's wrong."
Jiang Nian was taken aback.
"nothing."
Lu Zhaokun withdrew his hand.
Turning her head away, she thought, "I was just thinking that someone as sinful as me deserves some retribution."
He paused for a moment, then spoke calmly.
"You've been living in seclusion for too long; it's time to go out, meet new people, and make new friends."
"I've arranged for you to transfer to Hughes Academy. Jiang Ren will accompany you to register first thing tomorrow morning."
Although Jiang Nian had already completed high school and even some university courses in the United States, she did not feel that she needed to go to high school.
But if Lu Zhaokun tells her to go, she will go.
"good."
I rang the bell, and a maid with a respectful expression came over with a glass of hot milk.
Lu Zhaokun looked up and said, "Give the milk to Miss and help her get some rest."
"Yes, sir."
Jiang Nian took the milk and drank it all in one gulp.
"You don't need to take care of me, I'm not injured. But Father, you should get some rest."
Lu Zhaokun moved his eyes, and only then did the servants dare to push the wheelchair.
After he left, the servant brought over a set of ironed Hughes College uniforms and hung them up to the side.
Jiang Nian went into the bathroom, intending to take a shower and go to bed.
She took off her nightgown, revealing her slender, fair body in the rising mist.
But when Jiang Nian glanced at the mirror behind her out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly stopped.
Almost unbelievable.
