Jiang Nian did not know this woman.
Ji Qiyue, standing to the side, opened his mouth, unable to hide his surprise: "...Aunt? What are you doing here?"
Aunt?
Seeing Jiang Nian frown slightly, Ji Linyuan took a deep breath and stepped forward to explain, "Nian Nian, let me introduce you."
“This is what I mentioned to you before. My sister, who lives abroad with your mother, is your aunt. She just returned to China today.”
When my uncle was talking about Ji Yuwei's background that day, he did mention that he had a younger aunt, Ji Xin.
The uncle said that Ji Xin went abroad to study twenty years ago and has lived abroad ever since. She doesn't come back to China often and her relationship with her family is not very good.
However, Jiang Nian did not press her for the reason why her aunt's relationship with her family was not good.
"Niannian, come here, your uncle wants to say a few words to you."
In a familiar scene, Jiang Nian followed Ji Linyuan to the study once again.
Jiang Nian didn't know why her uncle had specifically called her over, nor did she know why Ji Xin's eyes were full of hostility towards her.
Logically speaking, since it was her aunt who had returned, a simple greeting would have sufficed.
Ji Linyuan sat in the study and sighed, "Niannian, your uncle told you the other day that your aunt doesn't get along well with the family."
"Actually, you could say that Ji Xin has always hated me and your grandfather, and also your mother."
"Hate my mother?" Jiang Nian raised her eyes, her brows furrowing involuntarily.
“Your aunt was very rebellious and disobedient since she was a child. She was not even eighteen years old when she found out she was pregnant unexpectedly. Your mother, as the older sister, was heartbroken, and your grandfather and I were also very angry.”
"After that, your mother forced her to have an abortion. But no one expected that something would go wrong during the surgery. Your aunt's uterus was damaged, and she may never be able to get pregnant again in her life."
"So your aunt resented your mother for forcing her to have the surgery, and also resented that your maternal grandfather and I sided with your mother. That's why she went abroad to study in a fit of anger and married a foreigner who advocated being childless."
"But even after so many years, even though your mother left home and disappeared without a trace, her hatred has never subsided, which is why she was unwilling to return to China. This time, she is probably coming back for you."
"Targeting me?"
Jiang Nian was somewhat confused.
Ji Linyuan's expression was also indescribable: "Your aunt has always been hostile to your mother since you were little. She thinks that your grandfather and I, her older brother, are biased, and that your mother's kindness and understanding are all an act."
"In addition to what happened later, when she heard that you had been taken home and learned that your mother, although gone, still had you as her child, she was not saddened by her sister's passing. Instead, she questioned why your mother could have a child but she couldn't. She was furious on the phone."
“Yuwei attended high school abroad and has always lived with your aunt. Because your aunt cannot have her own children, she has always treated Yuwei as her own daughter.”
"This time, it's probably because Yuwei made a phone call to her and let her know that your older brother asked Yuwei to move out, so she rushed back overnight."
So that's how it is.
No wonder he compared her to Ji Yuwei the moment he saw her, and even questioned his older brother about why he would kick Ji Yuwei out for her sake.
I returned from the study.
Before she even got close, Jiang Nian heard Ji Yuwei's choked voice coming from the living room.
“Aunt, please don’t blame my brother. He asked me to move out because he misunderstood me.”
“It’s all because I had someone stew deer antler in Grandpa’s soup that day, which caused him to fall ill. My sister Niannian dragged me to the storage room to warn me in a fit of anger.”
“My sister pressed me down and it hurt a lot, but my guilt made it hurt even more, so I grabbed a fruit knife and cut my arm, thinking that this would be a way to make up for my mistake and calm my sister down.”
“When my older brother came in, I told him not to blame his sister, that it was all my fault, and that I didn’t mind if he cut me to make her feel better. But I didn’t expect that he would think that my sister Niannian had cut me with a knife.”
"Later, after seeing the surveillance footage, my older brother thought that I had deliberately framed my sister, and he asked the housekeeper to tell me to move out of the house."
"But I really didn't mean to frame my sister. When my older brother asked if my sister had scratched me, I didn't say yes..."
As she spoke, Ji Yuwei bit her lip tightly.
Her reddened eyes and pale face made her look innocent, vulnerable, and pitiful.
Jiang Nian, who was standing behind, almost laughed.
Is this the legendary green tea?
Ji Yuwei knows best what she was thinking that day.
"You're saying I misunderstood you?"
In the living room, Ji Yanli couldn't help but clench his fists.
Ji Yuwei's words sounded perfectly reasonable, explaining everything she had said and done.
But if she really didn't intend for him to misunderstand, why didn't she say a word when he told Niannian that she shouldn't have impulsively grabbed a knife and hurt someone?
"Did you hear that, Yan Li?" Ji Xin snorted coldly from the sofa.
“I know Yuwei's character best. She is the kindest and most innocent person. How could she possibly have such a dark thought as to deliberately cut herself to frame someone else? Besides, she is a celebrity. Would she really risk leaving herself with a scar just to frame Jiang Nian?”
"Jiang Nian has only been at the Ji family for a few days? Yuwei is the little sister you've watched grow up!"
"It seems this country girl has some skill in bewitching people. In just a few days, she's managed to completely charm you, her older brother, to the point that you're willing to drive Yuwei away just to protect her."
"Alright, I won't say anything more. Since she's the eldest sister's daughter, let her be. Giving her some money and an apartment will be enough to make her grateful. Do you really want to let someone like her stay in the Ji family as a pampered young lady? Anyway, Yuwei is not going to move out. I think the one who should move out is that girl!"
