The father and daughter sat quietly on either side of the back seat. When Su Qinghai finally mustered up the courage to talk to Su Ya, he turned his head and saw that Su Ya had already fallen asleep against the back of the seat.
I stayed up all night yesterday organizing study materials, and I also got up very early this morning and haven't slept since.
Suya was already very tired.
Sitting in the car, I relaxed and fell asleep.
Su Qinghai asked the driver to turn up the air conditioning, worried that Su Ya might catch a cold. He then took out an unopened blanket from a hidden compartment under the seat and gently covered Su Ya with it.
He also instructed the driver to drive slowly and steadily, and not to wake Su Ya.
In fact, years of living in another world have made Su Ya a very light sleeper. She will wake up immediately if anyone gets close to her. So when her father covered her with a blanket, Su Ya was already awake.
However, she did not open her eyes because she knew that Su Qinghai would not harm her.
The Su Residence.
Grandma Su wanted to see the gifts Grandpa Su had received, but Grandpa Su wouldn't let her. Like a little child, he quickly ran to his study and closed the door, afraid Grandma Su would follow him.
He wanted to admire the gift his granddaughter had given him by himself, even if it was just a blade of grass.
When Grandpa Su unpacked the outer packaging, a sandalwood box with an antique carved pattern came into view. This box alone was worth a lot of money.
When Grandpa Su opened the box, a fine inkstone was quietly placed inside.
Grandpa Su carefully picked up the inkstone from the box. The inkstone was reddish-brown in color and shaped like a gourd, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. On each side of the inkstone was carved a dragon riding the clouds. The dragons looked very complicated, with auspicious clouds on the four corners. The surface of the inkstone was very smooth.
Grandpa Su picked up the water-filled frog next to him and gently dripped a few drops of water into the inkstone. Soon, the water turned black.
Seeing this, Grandpa Su picked up his phone and made a call.
The phone rang three times before it was answered.
Grandpa Su got straight to the point, "Old Jiang, it's me. Did you sell your Jubaozhai's prized possession?"
"Not for sale."
Grandpa Su breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this; the inkstone in his hand was probably just a high-quality replica.
Is that inkstone still in your Jubaozhai store?
"Not here."
Grandpa Su choked up again. Then he asked in a low voice.
Where did that thing go?
"I gave it to a young friend I've only recently met."
Hearing this, Grandpa Su was about to explode.
"Old Jiang, I'm telling you, you're so unreasonable! I've been asking you for that inkstone for so long, and you wouldn't give it to me. You actually gave it to someone else. I'm breaking off all ties with you."
"It's my fault for losing the chess game," Old Jiang muttered under his breath.
The voice on the other end was too soft, and Grandpa Su didn't hear it.
"Speak louder, I can't hear you."
"She said she wanted to give that inkstone to her grandfather, whom she had never met, as a gift. Is there anything else? If not, I'm hanging up now. I'm playing chess with someone."
After he finished speaking, the other end of the phone hung up.
Upon hearing this, Grandpa Su's hand trembled, and he almost dropped the inkstone in his hand to the ground. You see, he had offered five million to Old Jiang to sell it to him, but Old Jiang refused to sell it no matter what.
Now, however, he gave this to a young friend he had only recently met. But the inkstone his granddaughter gave him does resemble the prized possession of Jubaozhai, so it seems Mr. Su had mentioned it to her. This gift truly touched Grandpa Su's heart.
I wonder what this child has been through all these years.
However, Grandpa Su didn't consider sending anyone to investigate Su Ya. After all, she was his own granddaughter; if he didn't spoil her, who would? Grandpa Su decided that from now on, he would definitely protect his beloved granddaughter.
Su Ya never expected that an inkstone would deepen Grandpa Su's affection for her.
When the driver brought the car to the villa, just as Su's father was about to wake Su Ya, he saw that she had already opened her eyes.
"Ya Ya, you just woke up. Wait a while before getting off the bus, or you'll catch a cold."
"Okay, Dad."
Mr. Su got out of the car first and went into the villa. He instructed the kitchen to prepare some soup to aid digestion for Su Ya. He then went upstairs to check on his wife. Throughout the entire ordeal, he didn't ask about Su Hui, the other daughter of the Su family. It was as if he had forgotten her existence; Mr. Su's mind was now completely occupied with Su Ya.
Upon entering the study, he remembered the matter of arranging a school for Su Ya, so he made a phone call to his younger brother, Su Qingsheng.
The phone rang several times before being answered.
"It's my birthday celebration."
"Brother, what brings you here so late?"
"When we went back to the old house today, Dad mentioned Ya Ya's schooling. He asked you to go to her school to retrieve her records. Did you bring her academic records with you?"
"I brought it."
"I didn't even have time to ask you today, how were Ya Ya's grades before?"
Hearing his older brother's question, Su Qingsheng didn't know how to answer. The truth was that Su Ya's grades were terrible.
"Big brother, here's what I'll do: I'll give you Ya Ya's study records tomorrow, you can take a look yourself."
"Okay. Let's do it this way then."
Mr. Su checked the time and saw that it was still early, so he sent a message to his assistant, asking him to make an appointment with Principal Wang of Kyoto No. 1 High School the next day to see when he would be available, as he wanted to visit him in person.
Overjoyed at the thought of his biological daughter returning, Su Qinghai couldn't sleep and decided to re-plan the company's future development. With his daughter back, he was determined to earn even more money to give her a better life.
This is perhaps what all parents would want to do for their children.
Suya didn't stay in the car for long before getting off to go back to her room.
Just as she entered the villa and was about to take the elevator, she heard someone call out to her, "Miss, please wait a moment."
Suya turned her head and saw the maid who had been waiting at the kitchen door turn around and go into the kitchen.
Soon she came out with a small bowl steaming hot and handed it to Su Ya.
Suya didn't take it. "For me?"
"This is a soup that the master ordered to be made for the young lady to aid digestion."
Su Ya wondered what was wrong. After eating so much delicious food at noon and dinner, her stomach was indeed a little uncomfortable. She even thought about going back to her room to get some acupuncture later, otherwise she wouldn't be able to sleep all night because of the bloating.
I never expected that this adoptive father would be so kind, even thinking of this.
Suya took the soup and drank it down in one gulp.
The soup was warm and slightly sour, which was perfect for digestion.
Su Ya turned and entered the elevator, but a hint of warmth shone in her eyes. She would find time to give her father a few acupuncture treatments to help him recover.
With a "ding," the elevator doors opened, and Su Ya saw her so-called sister standing at the elevator door.
"Sister, you and Dad just got back? How are Grandpa and Grandma doing?"
Su Ya ignored her. She went to her room and slammed the door shut.
From her conversation with Grandpa Su and Grandma Su today, she learned that they didn't like Su Hui and wouldn't let her go to the old house except for holidays.
Although Su Hui was sent from a relative's house, the sending was done in private. Because Su's father concealed Su's mother's illness well, the people in Kyoto all thought that Su Hui was Su's mother's daughter and that she was the eldest daughter of the Su family.
Because of his wife's illness, Su's father had no heart to care about these things. For him, she was there to provide for her, and her only task was to awaken Su's wife.
As long as she behaves herself, she will be a young lady of the Su family.
Although he had developed feelings for her over the past ten years, Su Hui could never replace his own biological daughter.
Seeing that Su Ya ignored her, Su Hui turned around and went back to her room.
Now that she was alone in the room, she stopped trying to pretend.
