Chapter 5 Saying Goodbye to My Friends

In the afternoon, Su Ya wanted to bring Momo the study materials she had carefully prepared. She went to their usual spot, but Momo, who usually arrived early, was still not there.

After waiting a while, Momo arrived, but seeing her slightly red and swollen eyes, Su Ya knew that this silly girl must have cried when she knew she was leaving.

Su Ya gently stroked Momo's nose with her finger. "Silly girl, it's not like I'm not coming back."

"I didn't cry because sand got in my eyes."

Momo still won't admit it.

"Look, this is the surprise I prepared for you."

Then Su Ya pulled three thick notebooks out of her bag as if by magic. She said earnestly, "These are the review materials I prepared for you. You'll be taking the college entrance exam next year, and your foundation is a bit weak. I'm not by your side, so I can't tutor you often. That's all I could prepare. Remember to study hard."

"Yaya."

Momo was so moved that tears streamed down her face again. She truly hadn't expected Su Ya to prepare such a thick stack of study materials for her. Judging from these materials, Su Ya had started preparing them as soon as they separated yesterday. It would have taken at least one night to finish writing them all.

"You can't be so formal with me. I'm aiming for the same university as you. If you end up at a second-rate university, then I'll just have to go with you."

Others don't know that Su Ya is actually very capable, because not everyone can get single-digit scores on monthly exams and perfectly avoid the correct answers. Even the most clueless person can guess double digits.

"No way, the country would lose a great talent. Ya Ya, I will study hard and get into the best university so that I won't let you down."

"Momo, that's great! Let's keep it up together."

Let's cheer each other on.

"Ya Ya, tomorrow is Monday, I have to go to class, so I can't see you off. This is a little gift for you."

Momo took out a small jade pendant. The pendant didn't look very valuable; it was the kind that cost a few dozen yuan in a temple but was supposedly blessed by a high monk and sold for several hundred yuan.

However, Su Ya knew that this jade pendant was obtained for her by Mo Mo's grandmother. Because Mo Mo was a premature baby and could not speak until she was two years old, Mo Mo's grandmother, who was anxious for her grandson, went to the temple step by step and kowtowed to obtain this life-saving jade pendant for her, hoping that Buddha would protect her and let her speak as soon as possible.

Grandma Momo consulted a high-ranking monk, who repeatedly replied, "The opportune moment has not yet arrived. A benefactor will come to your aid."

Momo believed that Suya was her benefactor.

“Momo, I can’t accept this. This is your personal jade pendant. Your grandmother got it for you.”

"Ya Ya, are you still my best friend?"

"yes."

"If your best friend gives you a gift, do you want to accept it?"

...

Suya fell silent.

"I have nothing else of value to give you, and it is precisely because this is my most valuable and personal possession that I hope it can stay by your side. I hope it can bless you."

"Silly boy, I'll take it."

Su Ya affectionately stroked Momo's hair. Her hair was very smooth, thanks to the special shampoo Su Ya had used on her all these years.

"Here, let me help you put it on."

"kindness."

Momo carefully put the jade pendant on Su Ya's wrist, hoping that it would truly protect her.

"Here, take this bottle of medicine. Take one if you feel unwell." Su Ya took out a bottle of unpackaged medicine from her pocket and handed it to Momo.

Every time Suya came back, she would give Momo a bottle. Momo was premature and had been in poor health since childhood.

"It's getting late, so I'll head back now. I need to pack my things. I want to spend some more time with Grandma."

"Okay, Ya Ya, you should go back quickly, I'm fine."

After Momo finished speaking, she ran towards home, but Su Ya knew that Momo had cried again. She didn't want to shed tears in front of Su Ya, lest she worry about her.

Whether it was the sadness of parting or the heavens' sympathy, a light rain suddenly began to fall. Raindrops dripped onto Su Ya's hair, which she casually tossed aside, watching Momo's retreating figure with a touch of melancholy. Until her vision grew increasingly blurry.

"Momo, you must take good care of yourself."

Suya returned home and opened the door. Her grandmother was helping Suya pack her things. She didn't have many things; a small box was enough to hold them all.

Suya stood silently behind the old woman, watching her grandmother carefully fold Suya's clothes, then gently press the clothes against her face before reluctantly placing them in the box.

Suya couldn't bear to interrupt her grandmother. So she stood behind her grandmother until her grandmother took out a stack of money from the cabinet to put it into the box.

Suya then spoke.

"Grandma, I have my own money. You can keep your money for yourself."

“Darling, you’re back. Listen to Grandma. Your money is yours, and it’s all from Grandma’s heart. You’re going to find your biological parents. Grandma won’t be able to help you anymore. But if, just in case, I mean if they treat you badly, take this money to buy a ticket and come back to find Grandma. Grandma will always be waiting for you.”

"grandmother."

Su Ya choked up a little.

"My dear, take the money and Grandma won't have to worry about whether you've eaten or dressed warmly. If you're not careful, Grandma won't feel at ease letting you go so far away; she'll definitely not eat or sleep well."

"Grandma, I'll take it."

"This is my good daughter."

"Grandma, I'm a little scared today because it's raining and thundering. I want you to sleep with me."

Grandma knew that Suya had been afraid of thunder since she was little, and that she would sleep with Grandma whenever there was thunder.

"Okay, okay, don't be afraid, little girl, Grandma will stay with you."

Actually, Suya was just looking for an excuse to get closer to her grandmother.

At night, Suya lay beside her grandmother. A wrinkled hand gently patted Suya's body, humming a lullaby, just like when she was a child.

Suya fell asleep quickly. Her grandmother looked at Suya closely. The little girl from years ago had grown into a young woman in the blink of an eye, and this young woman was about to leave her and return to her parents. She might never see the little girl again.

Grandma couldn't help but feel a little sad. She had raised Su Ya for over ten years and truly couldn't bear to part with her. But thinking of her own health and her son, she knew this was the best choice. She couldn't be so selfish as to keep Su Ya by her side any longer.

After a long time, Grandma finally felt sleepy. She drifted off to sleep.

Grandma had just fallen asleep when Su Ya opened her eyes. She had been pretending to be asleep, and although her eyes were closed, she knew everything her grandma did.

Suya looked at her grandmother and listened to the rain outside, her eyes getting a little wet.

She's not heartless; she'll remember her grandmother's kindness for the rest of her life and will repay her.

Daylight broke quickly, and Su Su quietly got out of bed. Her luggage had been packed the night before: a small suitcase, a backpack, and a cell phone. That was all of Su Ya's belongings.

She didn't want her grandmother to see her leave, so she prepared to leave sooner.

Suya secretly put the money her grandmother had insisted on giving her the night before under her grandmother's pillow. She also put a card underneath it.

Su Ya quickly prepared breakfast and put it in the pot so that her grandmother could eat it when she woke up.

At 7 o'clock sharp, there was a knock on the door.

Su Ya knew that Su Qingsheng had arrived.

I pulled my luggage to open the door. I looked back into the room; Grandma was still asleep.

"It's all packed up."

"kindness"

"Come on, your aunt isn't feeling well and asked me to pick you up. She's already on her way to the airport."

"good."

"I'll help you with your luggage."

"Need not."

"Why are you being so polite with your uncle?"

Su Qingsheng grabbed his suitcase and pulled it out the door. He got into a taxi that was already waiting outside.

Actually, Grandma had woken up before Su Qingsheng arrived. But she couldn't bear to watch Su Ya leave, so she pretended to be asleep.

After waiting for the door to close, Grandma took out the money and cards Su Ya had put under her pillow, muttering, "That child."

Suya, who had just left, knew that her grandmother had actually woken up long ago and was pretending to be asleep. She couldn't bear to see the old woman so upset, so she didn't expose her.
