After settling into the office and greeting my new colleagues, I learned that several of them were out on missions and wouldn't be there today.
The next few days were spent handing over tasks to the previous captain of the criminal investigation team and familiarizing himself with the unsolved cases.
There's basically nothing to do today.
After leaving the police station, Dai Dong took a taxi to the bar street, one of the most bustling and prosperous streets in Kyoto. At this time, the nightlife is just beginning. Every evening around 5 pm, the shops and bars on this street start to open one after another. The whole street is brightly lit and lively, and every man and woman is intoxicated by it. It is also the place with the highest crime rate and the most frequent crime.
Scams, frauds, and fights are common occurrences.
The bar didn't close until four or five in the morning.
In the past, when a few of us from JD.com would occasionally get together, the place we frequented most was Kinging Bar, because it was also one of the Ye family's properties.
Dai Dong entered the bar and headed straight for Ye Qinchuan's private room. The waiter didn't stop him, apparently having already done so.
When he pushed open the door, the scene he saw almost made him think he had entered the wrong room.
All the lights in the room were on, making it as bright as day.
The table was covered with all kinds of fast food, cakes, pastries, snacks, fruit platters, and freshly squeezed juice.
Anyone who has been to a bar knows that there is a huge screen TV in the private rooms, which is synchronized with the screen in the main hall, and it usually shows footage of people dancing in the bar or in the main hall.
And what did Dai Dong see? He saw an animated film playing on a huge screen, something that seemed to have been released earlier this year. It was about an old man's journey to becoming a god. It was already nearing the point of his godhood.
Then a girl of about seventeen or eighteen years old sat on the sofa, staring intently at the big screen while eating. Whenever her hands were free, she would glance back at the food on the table, and Ye Qinchuan would immediately put the food she wanted into her hands.
It was as if it had been rehearsed in advance.
Just imagine this scene and you'll know how bizarre it is. Ye Qinchuan, whose very name in Kyoto is enough to strike fear into people's hearts, and who can arrange dates with women at the dissection room, is actually seen one day serving a girl like a personal servant.
Anyone who knew this would be laughing their head off.
Dai Dong couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Ye Qinchuan, you've finally met your match.
Then two pairs of eyes shot towards Dai Dong at the same time. He felt a tingling sensation in his back, a tightness in his scalp, and a chill in his body.
"Don't bother with that idiot, just keep watching your TV."
He told the girl to turn her head and keep looking.
Su Ya and Ye Qinchuan arrived too early.
After making the call to Dai Dong, Ye Qinchuan pulled me over.
When I first came in, it was dark and oppressive.
Suya felt suffocated, as if she suddenly couldn't breathe.
This reminded her of when she was in another world, and in order to escape, she hid in a basement. The basement was dark and gloomy, so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. People were looking for her, so Su Ya had no choice but to stay inside and not move. When she felt she could hardly breathe, they left. But Su Ya didn't dare to move. About ten minutes later, someone came back and found nothing unusual or that anyone had appeared. That was truly amazing.
And that's the feeling Suya got from the private room in the bar.
Suya wanted to leave; this place was boring and not fun at all.
Then Ye Qinchuan thought for a moment and asked the bar's computer technician to come over and play a movie for Su Ya.
The first show was a crime drama series. The first two were supposedly huge hits, and this was the third. Opinions were mixed, but most felt it wasn't as exciting as the first two. Suya hadn't seen the first two and didn't know how good they were, but watching it riddled with plot holes and logical inconsistencies, Suya kept yawning. She couldn't understand why the show wasted so much time introducing so many irrelevant people and events when she could just find the killer directly. Especially the forced sentimentality at the end, seemingly an attempt to whitewash the killer by recounting his difficult childhood and his mother's sacrifices, leading him to seek revenge—it was a truly embarrassing film.
The second film was a family drama about a mother and her child. It was supposedly very tear-jerking, and people were told to bring tissues to the theater. However, for someone like Su Ya, who wasn't very emotional, watching such a tearjerker felt like a waste. Ironically, a few funny moments in the middle made her enjoy it.
Next up was a sci-fi movie, which reportedly cost hundreds of millions of dollars, hired many popular stars, and brought in the best special effects artists from abroad. But Su Ya looked at the awkward special effects and the confusing plot. This thing cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
The last one was an animated film, a mythological one, about the Investiture of the Gods. Suya thought it was pretty good; she always felt that many Chinese myths were really good, even though they were created by emperors or leaders to brainwash the ignorant masses.
Suya ate while watching the movie and found it quite fun. This was her first time watching a movie, something she had never done before, and it felt very strange.
Dai Dong saw that Ye Qinchuan was completely ignoring him.
He had no choice but to find a place to sit down. He hadn't eaten dinner yet, and as he reached for some food, Ye Qinchuan slapped his hand hard before it even touched the food. His hand immediately turned red.
"What's wrong? I'm starving. I came straight here after work, and you didn't even prepare anything for me to eat?"
Dai Dong asked in a question-only tone
Ye Qinchuan sneered after hearing this.
Does that mean, "Who gave you the courage, Yuan Fang?"
However, I still rang the bell and asked them to prepare a table of food and bring it here.
The person who came agreed and hurriedly went out to make the arrangements.
Dai Dong: "What do you want from me?"
"Shh!"
Ye Qinchuan pointed at Su Ya.
Dai Dong immediately understood: it was affecting the little girl's ability to watch animated movies.
I finally waited until the ending theme music started playing, but it was already over.
The girl turned her head, puzzled. Why were they no longer talking?
She was watching an animated movie because she felt awkward being alone with Ye Qinchuan in a space.
So she looked for something to do, but unexpectedly Ye Qinchuan treated her like a child and started feeding her.
And so she accepted it.
"Let me introduce you first. This is Su Ya, Su Linzhe's younger sister?"
Dai Dong was puzzled.
The boy's sister was lost when she was very young.
As a result, Su Linzhe, a handsome man who was usually quiet and reserved, suddenly became talkative and could even tell jokes.
"My younger sister?"
"Yes, it was just found a while ago."
