He Ci knew that Su Ning didn't like him fighting and killing, so he went home and tidied himself up until he was no longer covered in blood before going to see Su Ning.
When He Ci arrived, Su Ning was asleep again. She was very weak due to excessive blood loss, and fell asleep after talking with her parents for a while.
When Li Mei first arrived, she was only worried about her daughter and didn't talk much with He Ci. Now that her daughter was awake, she began to seriously examine the young man in front of her.
He Ci noticed someone watching him, turned around and saw Su Ning's parents. He nodded as a greeting.
"He Ci, right? What's your relationship with Ning'er? Why was she so badly injured?"
Here they come, Qi Yan gripped A Rang's hand tightly; his mother-in-law was starting to settle scores.
Ah Rang frowned and pulled his hand away. "Young Master Qi, aren't you afraid of getting beaten to death if you keep gloating like this?"
Qi Yan released A Rang's hand. "Tch, I'm President Qi. People in Hong Kong are too busy currying favor with me to dare to hit me."
He Ci glanced at the group, and A Rang understood his meaning. Then he politely asked everyone to leave.
Once only He Ci and Su Ning's parents were left in the ward, He Ci knelt down in front of the couple with a thud.
"Uncle and Aunt, I'm sorry. I didn't protect Ning'er well. She got hurt because of me."
Li Mei didn't want to forgive him. Her daughter had suffered so much; it couldn't be resolved with just a simple "forgive me."
Without his wife's permission, Su Qiang didn't dare to step forward to help. He thought the young man was a decent person, courageous and responsible, and Su Tian had told him that he treated his daughter exceptionally well.
"Get up and speak. My wife and I can't stand you kneeling like that."
Li Mei turned her face to the side. She was also afraid of the young man in front of her, feeling that he was not someone to be trifled with. She wondered how such a well-behaved child as Ning'er could know such a person.
He Ci didn't get up. Su Ning took the knife because she pushed him away. If it weren't for Su Ning, the knife would have hit him instead.
“Auntie! I know you love your daughter dearly. This whole thing started because of me, and I will never let her suffer any injustice. Whether you hit or scold her, I will have no complaints.”
Li Mei wouldn't dare hit him. Su Tian said that this person's family background was extraordinary, and since her family were all peasants, how could she dare to provoke such a person?
The ward was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Although Li Mei didn't dare to do anything to He Ci, she was willing to let him kneel for a while to vent her anger. Otherwise, she couldn't swallow her anger. It was unacceptable to bully someone like this.
Li Mei didn't mention it, and He Ci really did just kneel there. Su Qiang listened to his wife in everything, and the three of them, one kneeling and two standing, looked particularly strange in the ward.
It wasn't until Su Ning cried out from the bed that the three of them reacted. Li Mei quickly went to the bedside, held Su Ning's small hand, and asked her what was wrong.
"Ning'er, you're awake. Is anything bothering you? I'll go call the doctor."
He Ci really wanted to hug Su Ning. Seeing that she was awake, he finally felt relieved after so many days of worry.
"My little darling!"
He Ci tried to hold Su Ning's hand, but Li Mei slapped it away.
“Behave yourself. What kind of behavior is this, pulling and tugging at each other? Our Ning’er is a daughter from a good family. If others see you like this, it will ruin your reputation.”
Su Ning's pale face lit up with a smile; she felt a little sorry for He Ci's aggrieved look.
"Mom, I'm hungry. I want to eat the millet porridge you make."
He Ci was about to instruct people to make preparations when he saw Su Ning slightly shake her head, and he instantly understood.
When Li Mei heard that her daughter wanted to eat her cooking, she was a little embarrassed. There was nothing available in the hospital, and she felt helpless.
Su Qiang hadn't missed his daughter's interaction with He Ci earlier; it seemed he would have to step in.
"Honey, isn't there a cafeteria behind the hospital? Shall we go see if we can get some special meals?"
Li Mei slapped her forehead, "That's right! Old Su, you stay here and watch over our daughter, I'll go check on the cafeteria."
Su Qiang grabbed his wife's hand, "You're unfamiliar with this place, are you sure you can manage on your own? Why don't I stay with you? There are so many people here, nothing will happen."
Looking at her daughter's pale face and then at He Ci, who was staring expectantly at Su Ning, Li Mei understood.
"Okay, let's go together then, at least we can look out for each other."
