Chapter 129 Preparing Pig Feed

He Ci worked all morning without a single complaint. It was heartbreaking to see the pampered young master being bossed around by his parents.

On the other hand, He Ci would never go west if Li Mei told him to go east, and he would never chase a chicken if she told him to beat a dog. When did He Ci become so easy to talk to?

Seeing how obedient he was, Li Mei wanted to find a reason to scold He Ci, but she didn't have a better excuse. Since he was in such good spirits, she had to make him work hard and see if he would still have the energy to climb into bed that night.

Breakfast was simple: steamed buns, pickled vegetables, and rice porridge. This was the worst food He Ci had ever eaten. In prison, everyone knew his identity, and his family had taken care of him, so he ate almost the same food as outside.

It was said to be a labor reform, but in reality it was just a change of scenery. Life there was rather boring, though. In the port city, he ate almost nothing but white rice and hardly ever ate steamed buns.

Su Ning stuffed a steamed bun into He Ci's mouth, then pushed the rice porridge in front of him.

"Brother Ci, I didn't know you were coming. We didn't prepare any food at home. This is what we always eat for breakfast in the countryside."

He Ci smiled and took a bite of the steamed bun. It was soft and quite delicious. He then picked up a piece of pickled radish and put it in his mouth. It was sour and spicy.

"The food was delicious. I like to eat steamed buns with pickled vegetables."

Li Mei and Su Qiang were both watching He Ci closely. If he dared to give them a hard time, Li Mei would have a reason to kick him out.

He Ci had seen all sorts of people. Li Mei had been ordering him around since morning, just looking for an excuse to get rid of him.

Su Ning's mother underestimated herself. If she could drive him away so easily, he wouldn't have come here without even going home as soon as he was released from prison.

Su Ning felt that He Ci didn't need to wrong himself like this. He had been living a life of luxury since he was a child, and it was already a shame that he had to lower himself to come here. He could even easily resolve his mother's difficulties!

Su Ning felt a little uncomfortable seeing him so happy eating steamed buns and pickled vegetables. He was He Ci, the fearsome underworld prince of Hong Kong. When had he ever wronged himself like this?

After finishing the meal, He Ci got up and took the initiative to clear the dishes before Li Mei could speak. In the countryside, there were always stoves and pots, which was the first time He Ci had ever seen them, and he didn't know where to start.

Su Ning took the bowl and chopsticks from his hands and put them into the large pot, then scooped two ladles of water into the pot.

The water was quite cold in winter. Su Ning saw that there were still flames under the stove. She grabbed a handful of rice stalks from behind her and stuffed them in. He Ci hadn't brought any clothes with him when he came, and he was wearing very little.

Su Ning pulled He Ci to sit under the stove to warm up. Although He Ci was wearing very little, his hands were not cold at all.

"Brother Ci! We're going to the market later. You didn't bring any luggage when you came. It's so cold, let's go buy some clothes."

He Ci had originally planned to do the same. He used to never wear his clothes overnight, and he maintained this habit even after going to prison.

He was in a hurry to see Su Ning, and he had been wearing the same clothes for several days. He had also chopped a lot of firewood that morning, and now he felt extremely uncomfortable all over.

"Okay, I came in a hurry and didn't bring any gifts for your family. I'll go to the street and pick some out later to make up for it."

Su Ning hugged He Ci's arm and rested her head on his strong, muscular shoulder.

“Brother Ci! We have everything we need at home. I’m so glad you came to visit me. My mom might not have been nice to me, but don’t feel bad about it. You can try to reason with her.”

He Ci pinched Su Ning's cheek as he always did, and it still felt just as good as before.

"She's my future mother-in-law. Whether you can marry me depends on her approval. I'm trying my best to curry favor with her!"

The two were still cuddling in the kitchen when they heard Li Mei's voice coming into the kitchen.

"Hey you, come out here! The pigs in this house haven't been fed yet! Hurry up and pour the dishwater into the bucket so we can mix it with the pig feed later."

He Ci was dumbfounded. He had eaten pork before, but what was the use of pig feed? And he didn't know how to feed pigs!
