Chapter 131 Living off a woman

The country folk are simple and honest, but they also love to gossip about everyone, and soon He Ci, the son-in-law who moved in with his wife's family, became the talk of the town.

No one knows who it was that praised He Ci to the skies, and out of curiosity, everyone went to Su Ning's house to see what was going on.

They wanted to see what the man who married into the family looked like, and whether he was really as handsome as Qin Fengxia had described.

Su Ning and He Ci, who originally planned to go out, were blocked at home. People came one after another. At first, Su Ning could deal with them with a smile, but now she was numb.

In contrast, He Ci did not have a cold face or get angry. He answered whatever others asked, and always kept a smile on his face.

One of the aunties joked, "Little He! Do you have any brothers in your family? As long as they are as good-looking as you, they can marry into our family."

"Auntie! I'm an only son of my parents, and I have an older sister. I'm sorry to disappoint you."

The aunt was just joking, but now that she heard He Ci say that, she thinks the young man is quite nice.

“Meizi, where did you find such a handsome man to be your son? Judging from his accent, he doesn’t seem to be from around here.”

Li Mei didn't give He Ci a friendly look. Only a morning had passed, and half the village's young wives and old women had come to chat with her.

“Him? We paid two hundred yuan to hire him, but when we said we didn’t want him, they said they should pay us back, so I had no choice but to keep him.”

He Ci adapted quickly; the people here were all very nice, and he didn't need to let others see his cold face.

"Auntie is right. I'm the one who's marrying Ning'er. Even without a dowry, I'm willing to marry into her family. When Su Ning and I get married, please come to our wedding banquet."

After seeing everyone off, Su Ning finally had some peace and quiet. Now the whole village knew that her family had a live-in son-in-law, and he was even marrying into the family for free.

Su Ning glanced at the time on her wristwatch. If they didn't go out soon, the market would close, and they still had a lot to do.

Su Ning pushed a bicycle out of the east room, and He Ci was stunned when he saw the old-fashioned bicycle in front of him.

The young master always drives sports cars and rides in luxury cars when he goes out. He recognizes this thing in front of him, it's a bicycle, but he's never ridden one before. What should he do?

"Little darling, do you have any other vehicles at home?"

Su Ning shook her head. "Only Zhu Zhou's family has a car; most people have bicycles."

Su Ning didn't give He Ci a chance to consider it; if they delayed any longer, they might really miss the deadline.

"Brother Ci, I'll ride the bike, you sit in the back."

He Ci couldn't really let Su Ning give him a ride, so he reluctantly got on. Luckily, riding a bicycle wasn't difficult, and He Ci quickly learned how.

The market was still crowded, with vendors lining both sides of the road selling all sorts of things. Su Ning didn't look at anything before pulling He Ci into a men's clothing store.

Su Ning asked for three sets of thermal underwear, three sweaters and long johns, a cotton-padded jacket, a down jacket, and a military overcoat. These were the only styles available at the time, with the military overcoat being the most popular.

Su Ning used to prepare He Ci's clothes, and she knew his size. He Ci looked at the little woman bargaining and his heart was filled with love.

He loved these simple, everyday days, free from deceit, intrigue, conflict, and worries; just him and his beloved girl were enough.

Su Ning picked out a huge pile of things, from underwear to cotton-padded jackets, from socks to shoes, buying everything she could think of for He Ci.

He Ci watched Su Ning haggling and a happy smile appeared on his face. This was what life was all about.

Su Ning didn't blink when it came time to pay, and He Ci didn't offer to pay either. He enjoyed the way Su Ning spent money on him. Since he was marrying into the family, he would be a kept man.
