The next morning, when He Ci got up, Su Ning had already prepared breakfast.
He looked around but didn't see anyone. The millet porridge on the table was still steaming, so He Ci guessed that the person couldn't have gone far, and he wasn't worried.
Su Ning arrived at Zhang Ji's, the breakfast stall that He Ci had taken her to last time. The business was booming, and Su Ning attracted a lot of attention as soon as she entered.
Da Shan recognized Su Ning at a glance and quickly stepped forward to greet her.
"Miss, is that you? Why are you alone today? Where is Brother Ci?"
Su Ning recognized the person in front of her as the tattooed man from last time, and spoke softly.
"He's still sleeping. I want to buy some steamed buns and fried dough sticks."
When Da Shan and the other diners heard Su Ning say that He Ci was still sleeping, they all looked at her with ambiguous eyes. He Ci was very popular, and many people on the street knew him.
Afraid that Su Ning would feel embarrassed, Da Shan quickly asked the shop assistant to get her some steamed buns and fried dough sticks.
Su Ning didn't know He Ci's appetite. Before she could say how much she wanted, Da Shan handed her steamed buns and fried dough sticks.
After Su Ning took it, she asked Da Shan how much it cost, but Da Shan waved his hand.
"Sister-in-law, you're too kind. This whole street is protected by Brother Ci. If you need more, come and get more."
Su Ning blushed instantly upon hearing his address, threw the five yuan in her hand on the counter, and ran away.
Da Shan looked thoughtfully at the crumpled RMB banknotes. As soon as the boss arrived at the counter, he saw the RMB banknotes on the table and began to lecture Da Shan.
"I've told you countless times that our shop only accepts Hong Kong dollars. If I see you not working diligently in the future, I'll deduct your wages."
Da Shan snatched the RMB from the boss's hand. "This money was given to you by Brother Ci's woman. Do you dare to accept it?"
When Su Ning returned home, He Ci had already washed up. He went up to Su Ning, took the breakfast from her, and looked at her flushed face, asking her with concern.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Su Ning shook her head. "I'm fine. It's probably because I was climbing the stairs just now."
He Ci affectionately pinched the tip of her nose, "Silly girl, you don't need to prepare breakfast yourself anymore, we can eat out."
Su Ning breathed a sigh of relief. "I cooked some porridge. We didn't have any noodles at home, so I just bought some steamed buns and fried dough sticks downstairs."
He Ci could tell where the steamed buns and fried dough sticks came from just by looking at them. He hadn't expected Su Ning to be so adaptable, actually managing to go out and buy things on her own.
After dinner, He Ci was about to wash the dishes when Su Ning beat him to it, saying, "Brother Ci! If you have something to do, go ahead and do it. I'll clean up."
Seeing that he couldn't be of much help, He Ci said goodbye to Su Ning and left.
Da Shan wandered around downstairs for a long time, but he forgot which building He Ci lived in.
"The mountains!"
Hearing someone call his name, Da Shan turned around and was delighted to find that it was He Ci.
"Brother Ci! You've finally come out."
He Ci stopped beside him. "Did you need something?"
Da Shan handed the five yuan in his hand to He Ci, saying, "This is what my sister-in-law gave me when she bought breakfast from me this morning. I refused to accept it, so she put it down and ran away."
Hearing Da Shan call Su Ning "sister-in-law," He Ci's lips curled up. "Just accept what's given to you. If you let her take it for free, she probably won't go there again."
Da Shan stuffed the money into He Ci's hand, "Brother Ci! I can't spend this money even if I give it to you. This is X Port."
He Ci instantly realized that he had forgotten about this. He Ci took out a wad of Hong Kong dollars from his pocket and handed it to him.
Da Shan quickly waved his hand, "Brother Ci! You're too kind. I can afford to treat you to breakfast."
He Ci patted him on the shoulder, "Please take good care of him in the future. Consider this a reward for your hard work."
Da Shan looked at He Ci and asked, "Brother Ci! Are you serious?"
He Ci smiled but didn't reply. He turned and walked towards where he had parked his car.
