The conference room was completely silent. Chen Ping knew that his chances were over and he would probably never have another chance. He never expected that He Ci would actually get married and that this woman would take away his position as chairman.
After all the shareholders left, Su Ning collapsed to the ground, her body limp. No one knew that she had just used up all her courage.
Bai Yi went over and helped Su Ning up. "You did a great job. This is a good start."
He Jin walked over and hugged Su Ning. "Ning'er, the He family will depend on the two of us from now on. You were really great today. I believe you can do even better."
In the days that followed, Su Ning studied diligently, striving to become stronger so that she could protect what He Ci wanted to protect.
He Ci has been missing for over a month, and the gangs in X Port are becoming increasingly chaotic. Although He Ci is gone, those people still abide by his rules and wait for his return.
Ali continued searching for He Ci, while A Rang returned to assist Su Ning. Due to the difference between men and women, Cui Ying became Su Ning's bodyguard.
When Bai Yi returned home, Ms. Ma started arguing with him again. Ms. Ma couldn't understand why her son, who was perfectly fine, would resign.
"Boss, explain this to Mom. Why did you resign when you were doing so well as a police officer?"
Bai Yi felt that if this matter wasn't resolved, his mother would never let him off the hook.
“I just feel that being a policeman is meaningless, and the money I earn is not enough. I want to earn a lot of money to buy you and your sister a bigger house.”
Ms. Ma didn't believe her son's story at all; she knew Bai Yi's personality better than anyone else!
"You've been getting too close to Su Ning lately, is it related to her?"
Bai Yi paused, "Ms. Ma, you're overthinking it. She is He Ci's wife. I understand the principle that one should not covet a friend's wife. I have my own bottom line."
Ms. Ma couldn't get any information out of Bai Yi, so she could only let Bai Yi go back to sleep.
At the He family's old mansion, He Jin had already handed over the reins of the household to Su Ning. After all, she was the mistress of the house, and He Jin believed that Su Ning could stand up for herself.
In a dilapidated warehouse outside the city, a man was bound and hung from a beam. Su Ning felt dizzy when she saw the blood.
Cui Ying had someone put the man down, and the two of them walked together and stopped in front of him.
"Tell me, who ordered you to blow up the ship?"
The man remained silent, and Cui Ying knew that he was just a low-level henchman, and perhaps he didn't even know the person behind him.
She came today mainly to teach Su Ning a lesson. Cui Ying is now Su Ning's teacher, and there are some things that can only be done to break through her defenses.
Cui Ying shoved a knife into Su Ning's hand. "Kill him."
Su Ning dared not; her hands were trembling violently. Cui Ying was a strict teacher, and every time she saw Su Ning's weak appearance, she felt disappointed in her.
Cui Ying grabbed Su Ning's hand and stabbed directly into the man's abdomen. The movement was quick, accurate, and ruthless, and Su Ning didn't have time to react.
She dropped the knife, her lips trembling slightly. "I killed someone, I... I killed someone."
Su Ning looked at her hands. "Why are you forcing me? Why! I don't want to kill anyone."
Cui Ying was indifferent, even heartless. She didn't care whether Su Ning was willing or not; she just wanted Su Ning to grow up quickly and take on her responsibilities.
In the middle of the night, Su Ning was awakened by a nightmare. In the dream, her hands were covered in blood, and the man asked her why she killed him.
Su Ning was terrified. Bai Yi received Su Ning's call at 3 a.m. Hearing Su Ning's trembling voice, Bai Yi rushed over without saying a word.
The room was dark and the lights were off. Bai Yi opened the door and, through the light from the corridor, he saw Su Ning hiding behind the curtains.
Bai Yi knelt down beside Su Ning and then hugged her in his arms. Su Ning's tears scalded his chest.
This scene was witnessed by Cui Ying at the door. After confirming that Su Ning was asleep, Bai Yi quietly left the bedroom.
Cui Ying leaned against the wall, her tone carrying a warning.
“Su Ning is your brother’s woman. Mr. Bai came here in the middle of the night without fear of being seen and gossiped about. No one can protect her for a lifetime.”
Bai Yi wants to protect Su Ning for the rest of his life, but what role should he play in protecting her? Cui Ying is right, he can only let her grow on her own.
