Chapter 39 Remittance

Bai Yi knew Su Ning, but he followed the proper procedures to take her statement, acting in an official capacity.

Bai Yi asked a question, and a police officer standing next to him took notes.

"Name, age, home address..."

"Su Ning, 21, Room 301, Unit 2, Rose Community"

How did you discover the deceased?

The two exchanged questions and answers, and when they talked about the deceased, her face turned pale.

“I went out to buy breakfast and saw a person lying next to the trash can. I was scared, so I called the police.”

Bai Yi looked at Su Ning, but swallowed the words he wanted to say. It would be a lie to say that a girl wouldn't be afraid in this kind of situation.

Bai Yi asked a few more questions, and the police officer next to him took a statement and, finding no problems, let him leave.

Su Ning told Bai Yi everything she had seen, and Bai Yi stared blankly at the girl's departing figure for a few seconds.

Guo Heng, who was standing nearby, joked, "Boss, do you have a crush on her? To be honest, that girl is quite pretty."

Bai Yi glanced at him and said, "If you have nothing to do, work overtime tonight. I see you're pretty free anyway."

Guo Heng quickly caught up with him, "Boss, don't take it so seriously! The way you looked at that girl just now, anyone who didn't know better would think you liked her."

When Su Ning returned home, He Ci stepped forward and grabbed her small hand.

"Why is it so cold? Were you scared just now?"

Su Ning smiled faintly, "Brother Ci! I'm fine, the police have finished questioning me."

He Ci reached out and patted her head. "There's been a murder in the neighborhood, so it's not safe outside. Don't go out unless you have to. Don't rush to find a job. I'll give you a gift in a few days."

Su Ning nodded obediently, "Don't worry, Brother Ci, I won't go anywhere until the murderer is caught."

For several days in a row, Su Ning stayed at home, and He Ci also left early and returned late. Every time he came back late, he would report to Su Ning.

Su Ning counted the days; she had been away from home for more than two months. She wondered how her parents were doing and whether everything was alright at home.

Thinking of the family's debts, she picked up the savings book He Ci had given her. To let her parents know that she was doing well outside, she withdrew 10,000 yuan and sent it home.

She was afraid that sending too much money home at once would arouse her parents' suspicion. Ten thousand yuan is not a small amount for her family, and they urgently need the money right now, otherwise she wouldn't have been abducted here.

After leaving the bank, Su Ning called home again. Not many families in her area had telephones, so Su Ning called her neighbor's phone, and the other party answered quickly.

Su Ning felt a surge of warmth upon hearing the familiar voice, which was soft and gentle.

"Fifth Aunt, it's me, Su Ning. Have you eaten yet?"

When Aunt Wu heard it was Su Ning, her voice, like a loudspeaker, came through the microphone.

"Oh, it's Ning'er. Your aunt and uncle just came back from the fields and were about to cook!"

"Ning'er, have you eaten? I'll have your uncle call your parents to answer the phone."

Su Ning thanked them gratefully. Soon after, Su Ning's parents and younger brother all gathered around, and Aunt Wu handed the phone to Li Mei.

"Your family must have a lot to talk about. I'll go cook now."

Li Mei took the phone and nodded quickly, "Auntie, we'll talk to Ning'er for a bit and be done with it soon."

Fifth Aunt was used to being easygoing and had a good relationship with Su Ning's family.

"Xiaomei, what are you saying? It's not easy for the child out there. Let's talk things out slowly."

Li Mei didn't know what to say until she heard Su Ning's voice on the other end of the line, at which point she happily answered.

"Ning'er, it's your mother. How are you doing out there?"

Upon hearing her mother's voice, tears welled up in Su Ning's eyes.

"Mom, I'm fine. How are you, Dad, and my little brother?"

After exchanging pleasantries, Su Ning finally revealed the matter of the remittance.

"Mom, I just wired 10,000 yuan home. You and Dad should pay back the money you owe as soon as possible."

Li Mei and Su Qiang exchanged a glance; this was no small sum of money.

“Ning’er, where did you get so much money? Tell your mother the truth about what kind of job you do.”

Su Ning has never been able to lie since she was a child. She had thought of what to say before making the call. This was the first time she had ever lied in her life.

"Mom, I work as a nanny in a wealthy family. The pay here is very good. They provide food and lodging, and I get bonuses for good performance."
