Chapter 44 You Are That Singer

During the meal, Lu Zhou kept glancing at Su Ning. This girl looked so familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen her before.

He Ci kicked Lu Zhou under the table, saying, "Where are you looking? Finish your food and get out of here."

"Beautiful lady, haven't we met somewhere before?"

Su Ning felt a little awkward being called a beauty, so she spoke softly.

"My name is Su Ning. This is the first time I've met you all."

Upon hearing Lu Zhou say that she looked familiar, Xiao Lin and Qi Yan both looked at Su Ning for a closer look, while He Ci on the other side was displeased.

"You lot, don't go too far. You can't mess with your brother's wife."

Qi Yan slammed his hand on the table, startling everyone.

"I remember now, you're that singer."

Qi Yan spoke with some emotion, gesturing as he spoke.

"The nightclub, the girl who sang so pitifully on stage that day."

When others brought up those things, Su Ning's face turned pale with nervousness, and He Ci held her hand.

"It's alright, it's all in the past. I will protect you."

Su Ning felt very upset, but she didn't want He Ci to worry.

"I'm fine, you guys take your time eating, I'll clean up in a bit."

He Ci glanced coldly at Qi Yan, "If you can't speak properly, then shut up. I'll settle accounts with you later."

He Ci chased after her, but Su Ning had already locked the door. He knocked gently a few times and spoke with concern.

"Little darling, are you alright?"

Su Ning leaned against the door, tears streaming down her face. That was her darkest time. If it weren't for He Ci, she probably would have fallen into prostitution by now.

"Brother Ci, I'm fine, I'm just feeling a little unwell."

He Ci could tell she sounded like she was crying, and his heart ached. Although the matter was over, it still cast a shadow over Su Ning.

"Little darling, I'm right outside. You can call me if you need anything."

The atmosphere at the table suddenly turned cold, and Lu Zhou and Xiao Lin looked at the culprit.

Qi Yan thought Su Ning was being pretentious; all she was saying was that she had worked in a nightclub, was it really necessary to make such a big deal out of it?

Moreover, it's hard to believe that a girl from a respectable family would work in a place like that. I don't know if she's just putting on a good act or if she's really as innocent as she appears.

"Why are you looking at me! You're the ones who said she looked familiar."

Lu Zhou walked over to He Ci and said, "I'm sorry, we just thought Miss Su looked familiar, we didn't mean anything by it."

"Let's go out and talk."

Qi Yan felt a chill run down his spine when he heard He Ci say that, and he looked at Lu Zhou and Xiao Lin for help.

"Dude, help!"

Xiao Lin grinned smugly, "Serves you right, who told you to keep your mouth shut?"

As soon as the four of them reached the rooftop, He Ci kicked Qi Yan. The two people next to him felt pain just watching it, thankfully they weren't the ones who were hit.

Qi Yan was a bit disheveled after being beaten; he bent over and clutched his lower abdomen.

"If you're serious, a couple of slaps to vent your anger would have been enough. Why did you have to go all out?"

He Ci's eyes reddened. "If you knew what she had been through, would you still speak of it so casually today?"

He Ci shoved Qi Yan aside, walked to the edge of the rooftop, reached into his pocket, took out a cigarette, and lit it. Su Ning didn't like the smell of cigarettes, and he didn't smoke at home either.

This is the third time you've seen her.

Lu Zhou and Xiao Lin paused, supporting Qi Yan's hand. In their memories, they had only met twice, including this time. How could it be said to be three times?

Do you remember when a woman covered in blood bumped into me at Sister Hua's place?

The three of them seemed to have realized it. Lu Zhou tentatively asked, "Are you talking about that girl from the mainland? Wasn't she sent away a long time ago?"

He Ci took a deep drag on his cigarette, then slowly exhaled.

"Our connection began from that time. I saved her, and she saved me. Perhaps it was all God's arrangement."

The three listened quietly without speaking. This was the first time they had heard He Ci say these things in all the time they had known him. Perhaps He Ci really loved that girl and wouldn't even allow anyone to slander her.
