Chapter 57 Going Home

The dock was bustling with people, most of whom were returning home for the Chinese New Year.

In the crowd, He Ci held Su Ning tightly, reluctant to part. He wanted to ask Su Ning to stay, but he knew that Su Ning missed home and he could only let her go back.

"My little darling, come back soon after the New Year, and remember to miss me."

Su Ning gently pushed He Ci away. Although the people here were quite open, she still felt a little uncomfortable hugging and cuddling in the crowd.

"Brother Ci, after I leave, you must take good care of yourself. Drink less alcohol as it's bad for your health. Most importantly, protect yourself and don't get hurt."

Su Ning recalled her first meeting with He Ci, when he was fighting with people on the street with a long, thin machete in his hand. So many people were trying to kill him, and she still felt a chill just thinking about it.

The sound of a ship's horn echoed from the dock not far away. He Ci knew it was time for Su Ning to leave. He lowered his head and kissed Su Ning's lips, passionately and tenderly.

People on the dock kept glancing at them. After a long while, He Ci finally let go of Su Ning, his tone full of reluctance.

"Hurry up and board the ship! Remember to come back soon, I'll be waiting for you at home."

Su Ning's eyes were a little moist. He Ci took her hand and led her to the entrance. Su Ning looked back at the people on the shore every few steps.

He waved to her, his eyes full of tenderness, until the ship slowly sailed away from the dock.

He Ci remained silent in the car. With Su Ning not there, he was no longer so timid in his actions. In the past, he was afraid that if he got hurt, Su Ning would cry when he got home, but now some people needed to be dealt with.

These gangs get more and more involved as the year draws to a close, especially with human smuggling and drugs, which is what he despises and finds most shameful.

He used to not care about or concern himself with the affairs of the gang, and he was content to be the gang's heir. Now, he wants to live a simple life with the person he loves.

After a day and two nights of sailing, the ship finally docked. Su Ning packed her luggage and prepared to disembark.

Li Mei and Su Qiang knew their daughter was coming back, so the whole family had been waiting at the dock for a long time. They didn't know what time Su Ning would disembark, so the couple waited from morning until afternoon.

Every time someone comes out, the couple stares intently at the crowd, afraid of missing their daughter.

This time, Li Mei saw her daughter from afar and excitedly grabbed Su Qiang.

"Old Su, do you think that's Ning'er?"

Su Qiang also saw Su Ning, and he waved and shouted desperately.

"Ning'er! Here, Mom and Dad are here."

When Su Ning saw that her parents' eyes were red, she quickly ran over and hugged them.

"Mom and Dad, Ning'er misses you so much."

Li Mei also comforted Su Ning with tears in her eyes, "It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back. Your parents missed you very much."

Su Ning wiped away Li Mei's tears, and Su Qiang smiled and spoke.

"Let's hurry home. It's cold outside, and it'll be dark soon. The roads are difficult to walk on."

Su Qiang arrived in a tractor, and there were blankets laid out in the truck bed. After Su Ning got in, Li Mei pressed her down into the blankets.

"Lie still and don't stick your head out; it's freezing outside."

Su Ning and Li Mei lay in the car, the mother and daughter talking intimately. Su Qiang, who was driving, was wearing a military overcoat and a hat, which also covered him up completely.

It gets dark early in winter, and it was almost five o'clock when they got home. Su Qiang parked the tractor at the door, waited for Li Mei and Su Ning to come down, and then unloaded the things from the tractor before driving it away.

"Sister."

Hearing the sound of a tractor at the door, Su An quickly ran out. Seeing the two people entering, he ran over and hugged Su Ning.

"Sister, you're back."

Su An is twelve years old this year and has already reached Su Ning's chin. Su Ning used to take care of him at home, and the two siblings have a very good relationship.

"Little brother, why are you out here? It's cold outside."

Su An hugged Su Ning and began to act coquettishly, "Big sister is finally back! I missed you so much!"

"Your older sister misses you and Mom and Dad too. Have you been good and studied hard while your older sister was away?"

Su An gave Su Ning a long and detailed report on his studies, and Li Mei couldn't help but chuckle as she watched her son talking animatedly.

When Su Qiang returned home after driving the tractor, he saw a heartwarming scene: his family could once again enjoy a reunion for the New Year.
