After the fireworks ended, everyone saw that it was getting late and went home in twos and threes.
Zhu Zhou followed closely beside Su Ning, but in the end he mustered up the courage to call out to her.
"A-Ning! I have something to tell you."
Su Ning stopped and looked back at Zhu Zhou. She wasn't stupid; she had been slow to notice before, but now she knew that Zhu Zhou had feelings for her, and Su Ning didn't want to give him the wrong impression.
Su Ning smiled and said, "Perfect timing, I also have something to tell you. Can I speak first?"
Zhu Zhou nodded, and Su Ning smiled faintly.
"The call I just received was from my boyfriend, He Ci. He's from Gangcheng. I'll introduce you to him sometime. He's a very nice person and treats me very well."
Zhu Zhou's body trembled. He wanted to ask why it wasn't him. Couldn't she see that he liked her?
"Ah Ning, aren't you being a little cruel to me? Is there something I did wrong?"
Su Ning didn't want to hurt Zhu Zhou either; if she wasn't ruthless, how could she make Zhu Zhou give up?
"No, you are a good person, it's just that we're not right for each other. Relationships require mutual affection, and I love him very much."
"It's your turn. What do you want to say to me?"
Zhu Zhou's lips twitched a few times, then he smiled and spoke.
"Happy New Year, A Ning, best wishes to you."
No one knows how much courage it took for Zhu Zhou to say those words; she didn't want to put Su Ning in a difficult position, so she could only put herself in a difficult position.
Su Ning smiled gently, "Happy New Year to you too, it's getting late, so I'll just leave it here!"
After Su Ning finished speaking, she turned and walked towards home. Zhu Zhou watched her graceful departure and felt bitter. His relationship had ended before it even began.
He Ci dropped the box in his hand and went home dejectedly. No one noticed that a beautiful figure lingered where the two had just stood after they left.
Su Tian squatted down and picked up the box. She had heard the conversation between the two of them. She hadn't been eavesdropping on purpose; she just had to pass through this road on her way home.
Zhu Zhou arrived home to find the living room empty except for a dim light, indicating that his parents were resting.
He wanted to confess his feelings to Su Ning tonight, but he messed it up, and now they might not even be able to be friends anymore.
When Su Tian got home, she opened the box. Inside was a gold necklace. Zhu Zhou must have put a lot of thought into it; the necklace was beautiful, but unfortunately, no one appreciated it.
Su Tian stared blankly at the necklace. She thought that Su Ning at least liked Zhu Zhou. She, Su Ning, Wang Meng, Sun Man, and Qiao Zhen were the five beauties of this village.
The closer their relationship was when they were young, the more awkward it became later. First it was Qiao Zhen, then it was her and Su Ning. Zhu Zhou alone shattered their sisterly bond.
Today, Su Ning suddenly told Zhu Zhou that she had someone she liked, which made Su Tian feel like she was a joke.
She's too narrow-minded to isolate even her beloved younger sister for the sake of a man.
On the day of the Spring Festival, everyone got up very early. Some people started setting off firecrackers as early as four o'clock in the morning. Su Ning was also woken up by the sound of firecrackers.
Through the window, Su Ning saw lights in the yard and could vaguely hear her parents talking.
Su Ning quietly dressed and got out of bed. Su An heard the noise, turned over, and continued sleeping.
After washing up, Su Ning went to the kitchen. The dumplings had been made the night before, and they could be cooked as soon as the water in the pot boiled.
When Li Mei saw Su Ning come in, she quickly told Su Qiang to get out of the way.
"Old Su, go hang up the firecrackers, I'm going to make dumplings. Ning'er, come and add some firewood to the stove."
As soon as Li Mei finished making the arrangements, the sound of firecrackers crackling came from the courtyard, and the sound of firecrackers from the neighbors and the village never stopped.
After the meal, according to custom, we should go and pay New Year's respects to our elders. Su Ning had been home for several days and had not yet seen her grandparents.
The two elderly people are now retired and live with their uncle. Li Mei and the old lady don't get along, so she rarely visits.
As a junior, Su Ning should have gone to wish her grandparents a Happy New Year, but she didn't want to go. Her grandmother had never liked her, and she and Su Tian still had a grudge, which she didn't know when they could resolve.
