Chapter 7 The Police Arrive

Hong Kong in 1998 was in a state of great riots, with gangs running rampant and fights frequently taking place at night.

Su Ning only went out to buy sanitary napkins, but she didn't expect to see people fighting in the street.

She hid beside a car by the roadside, too scared to move. The shouts and cries of battle from not far away made Su Ning tremble with fear.

She peeked out and saw two blood-covered men being attacked and slashed by a group of people.

Su Ning didn't know where she got the courage, but she shouted loudly at a distance, her voice trembling.

"The police are here! The police are here!"

The chaotic crowd ran away when they heard the police were coming. He Ci looked toward the source of the sound and approached step by step. As the sound grew closer, Su Ning's heart was in her throat.

He Ci suddenly pulled Su Ning away from the car. Su Ning stumbled as she was pulled, and what she saw was a cleaver that was still dripping blood.

He Ci's icy voice rang out, "Was it you who shouted that just now?"

Su Ning felt her legs trembling. She mustered her courage and looked up at the man who was speaking.

The first thing Su Ning saw was the man staring at her with a bloodstained face. His tall figure blocked Su Ning's view, and the man's appearance could be vaguely seen under the dim streetlights.

Before Su Ning could even take a look, someone suddenly called out from behind her.

"Young master, run!"

He Ci turned around and saw that the people who had just left had returned, and the leader started cursing at Su Ning.

"You bitch, you ruined my good time."

After saying that, a group of people slashed at the two of them. Su Ning had never seen such a scene before, and she was so frightened that she almost fainted.

No matter how strong He Ci's fighting ability was, it was no match for the overwhelming numbers and strength of the enemy, not to mention the added burden of having another person by his side.

Ali quickly ran over to meet him, and He Ci had a chance to catch his breath. He grabbed Su Ning and ran into the messy alley.

"Ali, retreat."

After He Ci finished speaking, he and Su Ning disappeared into the dark night. After an unknown amount of time, Su Ning could no longer run and collapsed to the ground.

"ah!"

The pain in her hand made Su Ning cry out. He Ci saw that no one was chasing after her, so he squatted down to help Su Ning up.

Are you alright?

Su Ning shook her head. "You should go now! Don't worry about me, they'll catch up soon."

In the darkness, Su Ning couldn't see He Ci's expression, but she could sense that the man was smiling.

Su Ning's voice is very pleasant, and coupled with her gentle tone, any man would feel an urge to protect her.

"Where are you staying? I'll take you there."

Su Ning hurriedly waved her hand, "No need, I'll go back by myself in a bit, you should run first!"

He Ci stood up and chuckled softly, "It's so dark, you know the way back, aren't you afraid of running into those people?"

Su Ning stiffened. His words made sense. If she, a weak woman, really encountered that group of people, the consequences would be unimaginable.

She regretted meddling earlier; she had finally escaped the wolf's den and couldn't afford to fall into the tiger's mouth again.

Ignoring the pain in her hand, Su Ning grabbed He Ci's trouser leg and spoke hesitantly.

"I'm staying in the hospital. Could you take me home when it gets light?"

He Ci felt like teasing her, "You were quite bold just now. Do you know what will happen to you if those people find you?"

Su Ning was already afraid, and it seemed that He Ci had no intention of stopping at all.

"They're all reckless. If they see a pretty girl like you, they'll probably rape you and then kill you, or maybe kill you and then rape you, or they'll send you to some shady place to work as a prostitute."

The mere mention of the word "entertainment" made Su Ning's face turn deathly pale; she never wanted to go to such a place again in her life.

Hearing no movement beneath him, He Ci squatted down to check and then smiled.

"With that kind of courage, it's no wonder you dared to call the police just now."

He Ci looked at the person who had fainted on the ground, bent down, picked him up, and left.
