Yesterday, Shen Qinghuai told me some things about the Princess Consort of Guangping.
I heard that Princess Guangping doesn't actually like the prince. She was originally the daughter of the Vice Minister of Works and had her own childhood sweetheart.
Unexpectedly, at a royal banquet one day, she met Prince Guangping by chance. Prince Guangping fell in love with her at first sight and asked the emperor to grant them marriage.
In other words, the princess was forcibly taken by the prince to be his wife.
To please her, the Prince of Guangping made many efforts, sending all sorts of treasures to his palace every day, and organizing poetry gatherings and polo matches all to win a smile from the beauty.
But the princess remained melancholy throughout.
When Shen Yunjiao heard this, she thought to herself, "Why does this story sound so familiar?"
Isn't the Prince of Guangping just a male version of the original owner, Shen Yunjiao?
They are the kind of people who only care about satisfying their own selfish desires and don't consider the wishes and feelings of others at all.
Fortunately, she transmigrated to the present and managed to cut her losses in time. Now, it's Pei Zhixuan who's clinging to her.
Princess Yan Zhen was sitting in her tent. To her left was Zhang Hui, the daughter of Zhang Taifu, her close friend. But from the very beginning of the polo match, Zhang Hui had focused all her attention on the dashing prince on the field.
To her right were several other ladies who had close ties with the Prince of Guangping's household. Their conversation revolved around their husbands and children, which Yan Zhen found rather uninteresting.
She had been listless, occasionally lost in thought or watching the polo match, until she saw Jiang Rong, at which point her eyes brightened slightly.
"Jiang Rong, what brings you here?"
Jiang Rong smiled and introduced to the princess, "Zhenzhen, this is my cousin-in-law, Shen Yunjiao. You must have heard of her."
Yan Zhen looked at Shen Yunjiao's outstanding appearance and was secretly surprised. He had never really looked at her closely before, and he was surprised to find that the Prime Minister's daughter was such a beauty.
"Princess Consort, I have long admired your name. I really like your poems." Yan Zhen waved her hand, gesturing for them to sit down.
"Greetings, Your Highness." Shen Yun greeted her with a charming smile.
When Zhang Hui saw the princess arrive with the crown prince's wife, she stood up and said, "Zhenzhen, I have to go first."
Seeing that her mind was not on this, Yan Zhen nodded slightly and said, "You go first. I have the princess and the crown prince's wife to keep me company."
Seeing this, the other ladies who were also there got up to say goodbye. They had all been specially invited by Prince Guangping to chat with the princess, but now that the princess had other people to talk to, they were happy to take this opportunity to leave this dull place.
It was lively outside, but the three girls were left alone in the tent, which made them feel more at ease.
Shen Yunjiao carefully examined the princess. She was strikingly beautiful and about the same age as herself, but her eyes and brows were filled with melancholy, as if there was a lingering cloud of sorrow about her.
Shen Yunjiao casually changed the subject and asked, "Is the Princess satisfied with this polo match?"
"So be it. What can we do if we're not satisfied?" Yan Zhen replied softly.
“If you’re not satisfied, just ask the prince to change it. Anyway, the prince dotes on you, and you can have whatever you want. Why don’t you just tell him?” Jiang Rong said.
Seeing a hint of helplessness flash in Yan Zhen's eyes, Shen Yunjiao quickly said, "Rong'er, don't talk nonsense."
"It's alright, Princess Consort. Rong'er and I are close. We've known each other since we were little, and I'm used to her outspokenness," Yan Zhen said.
Shen Yunjiao chuckled. Everyone knew Jiang Rong's personality. She then turned to Yan Zhen and asked, "Has the Princess not been sleeping well lately?"
Yan Zhen was slightly surprised. She looked up at Shen Yunjiao and asked, "How did the Crown Princess know?"
“You have dark circles under your eyes, even makeup can’t cover them up,” Shen Yunjiao said, pointing to the area under her eyes.
"You flatter me." Yan Zhen sighed softly, then said to Jiang Rong, "I still envy you, carefree and able to do whatever you want."
“I won’t be so carefree in the future. Zhenzhen, I’ll tell you secretly, my father has betrothed me to General Yao. Although he’s a good person, he’s risking his life for his future, drinking blood on the edge of a knife. Just hearing about it makes one’s heart pound,” Jiang Rong said earnestly.
Shen Yunjiao was somewhat surprised, "I didn't expect that you, Rong'er, had already thought so much about it."
Jiang Rong said shyly, "I'll think about it eventually, even if there's nothing wrong."
Seeing Jiang Rong's joyful and shy appearance, Yan Zhen felt incredibly envious.
Seeing her dejected state, Shen Yunjiao could only say, "Your Highness, don't overthink it. Since you're here, make the best of it. Everyone makes their own way in life, and your current troubles won't last forever."
Upon hearing her words, Yan Zhen suddenly realized that Shen Yunjiao was just like the Prince of Guangping, and her face instantly turned cold. "Perhaps the Princess Consort thinks I should just accept my fate? Perhaps for people like you, we have to be submissive and not be able to resist at all."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Rong felt a chill run down her spine. She quickly tried to persuade Yan Zhen, saying, "Zhenzhen, that's not what my cousin-in-law meant."
"Whether she is or not, she knows best in her heart," Yan Zhen replied coldly.
Shen Yunjiao shook her head. "Your Highness has misunderstood me. I am not asking you to be submissive, but rather to try your best to make yourself happy in difficult circumstances. If it comes to the point where you should make your own choice, then you should."
Yan Zhen felt a mix of emotions upon hearing Shen Yunjiao's words.
Shen Yunjiao asked her to make a choice for herself, but where is her choice?
"So, what the Crown Princess means is that I should live for myself and be happier, but I am a sensitive and depressed person. How can I be happy?" Yan Zhen thought to herself, the easier something is to say, the harder it is to do.
Although she has accepted the fact that she was forced to separate from the person she loves, acceptance does not mean that she can let go of it.
"Sister-in-law, please help Zhenzhen think of something to make her happier. She's already trying her best to live her life," Jiang Rong sighed.
After pondering for a moment, Shen Yunjiao asked Yan Zhen beside her, "Has the Princess ever tried acupuncture?"
"Acupuncture?" Yan Zhen shook her head. "I've never taken any medicine or seen a doctor. Can a doctor treat my depression?"
Shen Yunjiao nodded.
Seeing that there were only the three of them in the tent, she took out the set of silver needles hidden in her bosom.
Jiang Rong was very curious when she saw the gleaming silver needles. She reached out to take them, but Shen Yunjiao slapped her hand. "This one is poisoned. Don't you want your hand?"
Jiang Rong was startled and pulled her hand back. "Cousin, why do you carry these things with you all the time?"
As Shen Yunjiao took out a silver needle about the length of her little finger, she explained to the two of them, "Some of them are for treating illnesses, and some are for self-defense."
"Your Highness, please extend your hand so I can help you."
Yan Zhen hesitated slightly.
