Chapter 60 Azure Island (24)

A real show of force is more effective than any verbal threat. That night, no one walked past their door, and everyone knew that a man, a woman, and a large snake lived there.

Extremely powerful, no communication, attacks anyone in sight.

.

Lan Tuwen never appeared from beginning to end. With Scarface dead, the personnel arrangement on the tenth floor became Shehe and Shi Jinzhe, who ignored everyone, four small groups of players with their own ulterior motives, employees' family members and employees who banded together, as well as the injured Mr. Lan and several senior executives.

Shekh tossed and turned on the small bed, and with each twist of his restless snake tail, it would lash against Shi Jinzhe, who was sleeping on the floor.

The sofa was too close to the door, so he took a sleeping bag and lay down on the floor. After being whipped countless times, he finally sat up.

He sat quietly in the dark for a few minutes, when the snake's tail lashed out at him again.

"Shekh".

"What is it?" Shekh replied instantly, clearly still awake.

"If I did anything during the day that upset you, you can tell me directly."

"Not today."

"...So you mean it was there yesterday?"

"I forgot."

Time was running out and he had no choice but to lie down again to try and fall asleep. Ten minutes later, he got up and moved his sleeping bag to the furthest point from Shekh.

"Why are you so far away from me?" Even at night, Shekh knew exactly what he was doing.

"I'm afraid it will disturb your sleep."

"Come back. The air smells even worse now that you're gone."

Shi Jin opened his mouth slightly, then obediently closed it again, dragging his sleeping bag back as if dragging his soul, which was so tired it seemed to have left his body.

"Since you're not asleep either, stay closer to me."

With heavy steps, Shi Jinzhe walked forward a little further.

He was genuinely afraid that if he got too close, the most powerful part of Shekh's tail would swing back and forth and injure him.

"Closer."

Shi Jinzhe simply placed the sleeping bag close to the edge of the bed. It was close enough, and at this angle, Shekh's tail couldn't be pressed down.

He lay down again, and within two minutes he heard Shekh still turning over.

"Are you having trouble sleeping?"

"I can't turn over."

Shech heard stories being told from other rooms, but the voices were too soft for her to hear clearly.

"I want to hear a bedtime story."

"What do you want to hear?"

"Snake-like."

Shi Jinzhe went through all the snake stories in his mind, from "Medusa" and "The Legend of the White Snake" to "The Farmer and the Snake," and finally told Shehe about Nuwa.

From the creation of all things to the creation of man from yellow clay, and then to the patching of the sky with five-colored stones, Shi Jinzhe's mouth was dry before Shehe finally fell asleep.

Seeing that she stopped turning over and her tail had calmed down, Shi Jinzhe finally dared to sleep peacefully.

After the initial drowsiness wore off, I couldn't fall asleep even after closing my eyes for a long time.

Day 20 on Azure Island.

The hairy monsters have taken over several nearby streets and invaded the building. Occasionally, knocking sounds can be heard outside the tightly closed door on the tenth floor.

In the afternoon, a residential building located one kilometer away from the Azure Building collapsed without warning.

Dust rose up, and the building was almost shattered into pieces, with only a few steel bars remaining. Within three hours, the debris was covered with a thick layer of fungal growth.

By evening, four more buildings had crumbled to dust, and the world outside the window was a completely yellowish-gray.

The invasion of mutant fungi has begun to shift from plants and animals to inorganic matter.

In the still of the night, the soil and rocks are eroded silently.

On the morning of the twenty-first day, the coastline of Azure Island receded by at least a hundred meters.

Beneath the murky seawater, long, drifting mycelia floated. A few days ago, the rampant growth of mycelial carpet devoured the land, and this time the land was truly sinking while the water level rose.

"I wonder if this building can last for ten days."

Shi Jinzhe recounted the supplies. "The hairy monsters outside keep harassing us. We don't know how many days it will take for the people inside to mutate."

"I can't tell yet. It's too quiet in the building; people are avoiding making any noise."

Schech took a bite of chocolate, then his ears twitched. "I heard Mr. Blue speak. He's awake."

"What did he say?"

"Someone asked him why the accident happened yesterday."

Shekh relayed: "An employee brought people who hadn't completed the five-minute disinfection process to the seventh floor. Disinfection in the isolation room is very harmful to the body. He shortened the time for that pregnant woman, and the spores on her body weren't completely eliminated."

Shekh paused for a moment, "He got beaten up, and some people say he's more trouble than he's worth."

Shi Jinzhe commented: "Their ruthlessness is not thorough enough, and their goodness is not pure enough; it's just a common problem for most people."

With Azure's security measures being so tight, the pregnant woman was probably spotted as soon as she entered the seventh floor. The area beyond the tenth floor is now full of hairy monsters, and the fate of that family is predictable.

The two stopped discussing Mr. Lan, and after lunch, Shi Jinzhe began today's lesson.

At night, he continued to tell stories to Sheikh, who was suffering from insomnia, and talked about his own insomnia.

Day 22.

People who had been without water and food for two days started arguing, especially families with children. The children were crying from hunger, which was increasingly annoying to listen to.

Even worse, when children and the elderly with weak immune systems developed rashes and there was no food or medicine available, the mothers who were taking care of their children had no choice but to abandon them when they saw the ulcers on their bodies.

When she returned after taking the child to the room at the far end, the employees' families refused to accept her, citing infection as the reason.

Some of the rooms had their doors tightly shut, and no one paid any attention to her even as she cried until her voice became hoarse. In the end, she had no choice but to return to the room at the end of the room, open the door, pick up her child, and mutter to herself.

"Everyone was actually infected; it was only a matter of time."

On the twenty-third day, several more elderly people entered through the open door. Their bodies were all festering, while the first child brought in had already grown fine downy hair.

Aside from the players, the natives were completely out of ammunition and food.

A large chunk of land disappeared, and besides the hairy monster, rotting but still lively animals appeared outside the building.

Sheh looked away; the stray cat downstairs, which looked like it had been buried in the ground for half a month and then dug up, was simply too much for Snake to bear.

But that stray cat was incredibly agile, leaping and bounding up the stairs.

Most of the building debris was piled on the ground, forming a small mound that looked like a series of graves from a distance.

Those animals and the hairy monsters guarded that spot, staring intently at the Azure Building every day.

He spent his days catching up on sleep and didn't look at many of these things. In the middle of the night, he heard a wail coming from the room at the end of the tenth floor.

The piercing cries also woke up the hairy monsters guarding the door. The restless monsters no longer knocked tentatively as they had in the past few days.

They rammed into the protective door with all their might, causing it to bulge and deform. The creaking sound of the deformed metal was so loud it made one's ears itch.

Amidst a cacophony of noises, Sher sat up in bed and let out a deep breath.

She finally managed to fall asleep...
