Chapter 14 Charity Activities (9)

On the high, spacious classroom roof, a gaunt face stared intently at the two of them.

Like a gecko crouching in a corner, only its head is tilted back, the back of its head almost touching its back, and its pinpoint pupils lingering on Shi Jin's body.

The female ghost was drawn to Shekh's overly direct gaze. She twisted her neck and found that Shekh's head turned with her movement.

The female ghost didn't understand why she could see herself. She tilted her head, a question forming in her mind.

A chill crept in, and the temperature in the classroom continued to drop. The female ghost glanced at the blackboard in confusion, then shook her head at Shekh, before finally disappearing into the white mist.

Sheh was puzzled. She couldn't sense any murderous aura from this ghost, which was very different from the one from last night. She asked Shi Jinzhe, "What was she trying to say by shaking her head at me?"

"...I can't see."

Shi Jinzhe was powerless to do anything about it. He vaguely guessed what Shehe had seen. Judging from her words, there was a ghost above.

"Please describe the specific situation."

“There was a female ghost watching you, but she shook her head at me and left. It wasn’t the one from yesterday.”

"Shake your head." Shi Jinzhe muttered to himself. Shaking his head usually means negation. What was that female ghost trying to convey to Shehe?

No? No way? Shouldn't it?

"Two ghosts in one instance, one in the school and one in the small building, indicate that both places are key locations."

Shi Jinzhe glanced at Shehe. The dungeons would become increasingly difficult in the future, and he needed to find a way to increase his importance in her heart. Otherwise, even finding clues would be hampered by unmanageable dangers.

If he leaves because of danger, he won't be able to find clues to solve the puzzle and will only get a basic score. If he fails to pass the level and doesn't have enough points to deduct, he will die anyway.

Shi Jin carried Shehe outside, the thick fog outside feeling like needles pricking their skin.

He walked to the next classroom, keeping a close eye on Sheikh's behavior. If she did anything strange, he wouldn't go in.

After visiting several classrooms without making any unusual moves, Schech boldly went up to the next floor.

On the second floor, he discovered a room that had been converted into a library.

Shi Jinzhe saw many group photos on the counter, all of which were photos of Shao Dong, volunteers from the charity, and students, all taken four years ago.

He walked around several bookshelves, most of which contained books donated by donors, and some even had names written on the pages.

The pages of these books were worn and curled from being handled so much, and they were arranged somewhat haphazardly, indicating that the children here had read them very many times.

He put Shekh down, stood in the circle formed by her snake tails, overcame his fear, and began to peruse the books.

Sheh followed his actions, picking up a book to read as well. The words were written in neat rows and columns, and she couldn't understand them at all. But every time he turned a page, she would turn a page too, looking at his and then at her own, her curiosity piqued.

The only sound in the quiet room was the rustling of pages turning. Sheh imitated it perfectly, and Shi Jinzhe had no idea that she was illiterate.

As she reached the end of the row of cabinets, a photograph fell from the book in Sheikh's hand. She poked at it, then folded it up. "Pick it up."

Shi Jinzhe picked up the photo. It was a group photo. The person standing in the middle was Shao Dong. There were two middle-aged men next to him. They were fat, bald, wearing polo shirts and belts with big luxury brand logos.

Two rows of students stood beside the three people, with the children in the first row holding a long red banner.

[Let children see a wider world—A book donation drive, organized by the Charity Volunteer Association, donated to a school in Village X, County X.]

“It’s her.” Shekh stretched out his hand and pointed to the girl standing in the middle.

She was a girl with a low ponytail, about fourteen or fifteen years old, with slightly flushed cheeks and smiling eyes. You could tell she was very happy when the photo was taken.

"Is it the one who shook his head at you, or the one from last night?"

"Shake your head."

"He looks more like a junior high school student. I don't know if he started school late or if this school also includes junior high school."

Shi Jinzhe looked at the lower right corner, where the photo was also taken four years ago. He asked, "Did you find any other clues in the book just now?"

"I don't know, I don't understand."

"..."

You can read it so carefully even though you don't understand it. You're a snake after all, you have such patience.

He quickly skimmed through the book. It was a high school supplementary textbook, which the students here probably wouldn't need, hence it had been left to gather dust in a corner.

As they continued their search, Shi Jinzhe found eight more photos in the cabinet behind the room, all of which featured the girl with the low ponytail.

He carefully compared the photos on the counter and found that all the photos of girls with low ponytails were hidden in books, and all of them were books that no one read. It all seemed a bit strange.

In addition, the girl with the low ponytail gradually tensed up, and her smile became increasingly unnatural.

The photos are arranged chronologically, showing eight charitable donations within six months. In the last two photos, the girl is partially turned to the side, creating a noticeable distance between herself and the volunteers beside her.

This is clearly a feeling of disgust. What happened to make her feel disgust instead of joy?

Shi Jinzhe didn't understand girls. He turned to ask Shehe, but then he thought that she couldn't give him any accurate advice.

But after thinking it over, they were both women, so they must have some things in common. Besides, Shekh could see the girl and communicate with her, so asking her should be fine.

Thinking about it, Shi Jinzhe felt that it made a lot of sense. He turned around, walked to Shehe's side, and was about to speak when he noticed that she was holding the book upside down.

"...What are you looking at?"

Shekh: "Word."

“You see it this way…” he carefully chose his words, “Is there anything special about how you see it this way? I usually look at it from the opposite perspective.”

Is there a difference?

Shi Jinzhe was speechless. He understood. Shehe wasn't incapable of understanding; she simply couldn't read at all.

He sighed: "I have a question for you. What can someone do that makes you go from happy to annoyed?"

"It depends on my mood."

“Be more specific,” Shi Jinzhe said, still holding the photo in his hand, “think about why you were unhappy the last time.”

The most recent one…

Shekh's tail slammed to the ground with a thud, her lips pressed tightly together, and the malice she had felt on the way here resurfaced in her mind.

Even though he couldn't see her eyes, Shi Jinzhe could tell from her suddenly crumbling face that the snake was unhappy again.

“They said I can’t see and can’t walk, so they can do whatever they want to me. They said that even after I die, I can still be manipulated by them. I’m very unhappy about that.”

Shi Jinzhe slowly raised his eyes. It was one thing for that bastard to want to harm him, but he even said such things that Shehe could hear. What if she took her anger out on him?

Besides, he's not surnamed Xu, so what could he possibly do to a snake?

Shi Jin asked, "Are you talking about the people who are following us?"

Shekh forced out a "hmm" from his throat, his anger returning, and he could tell he was in a very bad mood. "I'm going to kill them."

Shi Jinzhe did not comment on this. As long as Shehe remained in a good mood with him, he would not have any objections to whoever she wanted to kill.
