The two dazed fools arrived at their destination that afternoon. Shi Jinzhe noticed it was getting late and strolled around the streets near the hotel with Sher.
Realizing they didn't have any suitable clothes for hiking, they went to the mall after dinner.
The tracksuits were simple with no complicated patterns. Shi Jinzhe bought several sets and had them sent back to the hotel to be cleaned. Then, he and Shehe bought some other commonly used items before heading back.
The next morning, Shi Jinzhe drew back the curtains. It was a bit overcast, but not stuffy; the weather was quite nice.
Sheh rarely wore loose-fitting clothes, and when she put on long pants with a noticeable drape, she couldn't help but kick the cuffs a couple of times. Shi Jinzhe pressed down on her two restless feet, saying, "It's a habit, it's a habit. Wearing skirts is inconvenient, these long pants are more comfortable."
"I'm adapting."
"Standing up and walking around for a while will help you adapt faster."
“Okay.” Sheh strolled around the balcony a few times, and when she came back, Jinzhe had also changed her clothes. She was wearing the same ivory trousers and a pure white top as her, which looked very refreshing.
You look so young.
"Don't you think I'm actually not that old?"
Shekh nodded to himself, "Like twenty years old."
"Eighteen is fine too, we're both eighteen." Shi Jinzhe checked his backpack again, and before zipping it up, he put two more pomegranates inside.
I bought these pomegranate seeds yesterday at a roadside fruit stand after a stroll. They looked so tempting, like rubies, and they were so sweet. Sher loves them, so he bought several.
I heard there is a front mountain and a back mountain. Shi Jinzhe plans to go to the front mountain first, as the route is simple. If Shehe is willing to go, we will see if we can go to the back mountain the next day.
With their hair ties on, Shi Jinzhe and Shehe went out.
They arrived early, and there weren't many people yet; only a few parents with children were taking photos at the mountain gate.
Shehena would break the sticks and use them as hiking poles, and then take his hand and walk with him.
The path was easy to walk on, and the tourists who came later gradually overtook them. Shi Jinzhe asked her, "Do you want to take the cable car up?"
Shekh: "The air is nice, no rush, we can walk slowly."
As they continued upwards, they passed many Taoist temples. Some of the stone railings were covered with red ribbons. Sheh casually picked one up and glanced at it; they were all words of prayer for blessings and good health.
There are many trees in the mountains, and some paths are built with steps that are not as wide as the main road. I often walk behind her and remind her to watch her step.
Shekh glanced at the parents with their children not far ahead.
With one hand holding the child and the other protecting him, every step he takes is praised.
"Okay, let's take it slow."
"Hey, we're coming down!"
"Wow, baby is so great!"
When Shekh looked back again, everything was broken.
"Watch your step, this step is high, don't fall."
"Why did you stop walking? Are you tired?"
"Is this a mountain that little kids climb?" Shekh had seen parents with children the whole way since entering the scenic area.
"This is a beginner mountain for beginners, suitable for all ages. You see a lot of children, but it's just that children need to be coaxed more. Besides, students are on summer vacation now, so there are children everywhere, which is normal."
Shi Jinzhe coaxed her to walk forward, "Really, if you go any further, there will definitely be more adults ahead."
How can you be so sure?
"Because you can draw lots at the attractions in front, many people come here to pray for marriage."
Shekh became interested. "Is it accurate?"
"Sincerity brings results."
"...I think you're quite suited to living here."
Riddlers and con artists should all become monks.
Shi Jinzhe's brows relaxed, and he didn't take it seriously. "Let's go ask one and we'll see if it works. Walk a few more steps, hurry up, or you'll block the way for the people behind you."
Shekh then continued walking, and once the passersby had gone far away, he asked Shi Jinzhe, "With me here, what more could you possibly want?"
Please bless me.
Shi Jinzhe didn't ask for anything, but joked with her, "Let's go. It's said that this is the birthplace of the White Snake. See if you can find someone like her, find a family."
Shekh pretended not to understand, "Looking for a Xu Xian?"
"Xu Xian is in Hangzhou. He doesn't exist here, so don't even think about it."
"Then let's visit West Lake next time."
"I'm not going."
"Aren't you looking for family?"
“No—I’m not going.” Shi Jinzhe repeated, drawing out the last syllable.
"How can you not even stand this?"
Sheikh tapped his shoulder with her fingertips, and when she raised her chin in a haughty manner, her beautiful face had the air of a bad woman.
Her expression conveyed a certain meaning when she said this, but her voice didn't match the affected tone. It was flat, like she was just being perfunctory with a backup option number one hundred or so. But it unexpectedly achieved a very good effect, making Shi Jinzhe's eyebrows twitch as he watched.
He's the perfect example of someone who brought trouble upon himself.
"Okay... go."
“I’m not going.” Shekh brushed a stray hair from beside his eyes. “I’m afraid you’ll turn into a sour radish.”
“I already am.” Shi Jinzhe seized the opportunity to pester her, took out some eye drops from his pants pocket and put two drops in himself, then blinked and stared at Shehe with a resentful look.
"Artificial rain won't work on me; your crying isn't sincere."
Shi Jin was about to say something when she made him laugh at her comment about artificial rain: "My wife is so cute."
Sher responded politely, "My husband is cute too."
"That was a bit of a perfunctory response."
"It's good enough that you said it, don't be picky."
Shekh told him along the way, and before they knew it, they had climbed half the distance.
The ancient trees provide ample shade, and more and more tourists are arriving on the tree-lined path. Tourists with children gradually fall behind, with most choosing to take the cable car up.
Shekh looked at it for a moment, then said, "Let's sit there when we come down."
Shi Jinzhe was worried that she was tired, so he asked her. Shehe said she wasn't tired, she just wanted to sit there and enjoy the scenery.
Seeing vendors selling snow lotus fruit and cucumbers by the roadside, Shi Jinzhe asked her again if she wanted some.
"Let's buy a cucumber." In Sheh's eyes, snow lotus fruit was something he would never want to eat again after trying it once; a cucumber was much more refreshing.
So for the rest of the journey, the two very tall and expensive-looking people each ate a small cucumber as they walked.
After Shi Jinzhe finished eating one, he stood near the trash can wiping his hands with a tissue. Shehe was asking us if we were almost at the top when suddenly a loud scream came from the steps above.
"When the time came, it seemed like someone was calling me."
The leaves overhead rustled in the wind, and then a chorus of calls from groups of birds burst forth into the sky.
"Snake—!"
As Shekh ate a melon, he saw the crowd above, amidst a rain of laser beams, frantically throw down a brown, patterned snake.
Not very big, but with a twist of her waist, she landed on Shi Jinzhe's two arms with a "kua," like a princess carry.
