Chapter 306 Doomsday World Rescue Team (17)

"Hopefully, accomplishing what the mutant organization members want won't be too difficult."

"If it's too difficult, let them find another one."

Shekh glanced at the eyes peeking out from a crack in the rocks not far away and made the lurking mutant step out on its own.

Shi Jinzhe said with concern, "You should use your eyes less. I can use vines just the same way."

"It's alright."

Shekh sized up the mutant. He was not tall, about 1.3 or 1.4 meters, hunchbacked, bald, with an enlarged skull and skin that was a distinctly yellow color. He estimated that the mutant was male.

That's how it is; calling him a human being is a bit of an overstatement.

"...Are you people from the shelter?"

The captured mutant had an unusually hoarse voice, and when he opened and closed his mouth, he revealed a pair of excessively long incisors. His tone of voice was very uncertain when he asked the question.

This isn't what we agreed on. People in the shelters exposed to the open air would quickly develop headaches and faint, but they seem perfectly fine...

The short mutant looked up and observed the two. They were so tall, they must be well-nourished, but they weren't good-looking enough.

He tried to shake his shoulders to break free, but couldn't control anything except his mouth. He had no choice but to abandon his plan to escape and report the news, and asked dejectedly:

"How did you find me...?"

Shekh: "When you were hiding, did you see how many of the radiation monsters nearby died?"

"I saw it."

"So if I can find those monsters, I can find you."

Shekh made a downward sliding motion with her index finger, and a radiated bird that had been circling overhead, preparing to ambush her, crashed to the ground with a thud.

A mass of blackish-gold liquid emerged from its body, quickly attaching itself to the broken scepter, and then entered the crystal to await purification.

The mutant's mouth gaped slightly, surprised that he had already exposed this fact.

Shekh ordered him, "Take me to the person in charge of your group."

The mutant instinctively retorted, "Can't you see everything? Find it yourself."

"Since you don't want this opportunity for friendly communication, then forget it." Shi Jinzhe raised his chin. "Kill him."

"No, no, no, I'll take you there!" the mutant immediately interjected, "That was just a reflex, not what I meant. I'll take you there right now."

Shi Jinzhe said, "Then please."

The mutant wrapped himself tightly in the tattered cloth and turned to lead the way.

In a world where the strong prey on the weak, he believed that their threat to kill was not just intimidation, but something they could actually do.

Inside the collapsed bunker, the mutants arrived at a triangular entrance made of boulders and steel bars. The entrance was small, and both Sheh and Shi Jinzhe had to bend over to get in.

Shi Jin walked behind and asked the mutant, "What's your name?"

"Four dogs."

"That's quite down-to-earth," Shi Jinzhe said, trying to get the information out of the question of whether mutants would have skills. "How do you live in the wild? Isn't it dangerous?"

"It's alright, we can handle most radiation monsters, but the ones in groups are a bit tougher." Si Gou chewed on his nails, and was also curious about the people in the shelter. "Aren't you all very afraid of radiation? Also, I see that the people in the shelter wear transparent covers over their mouths when they go out, why don't you wear them?"

“That’s them. We’re different. We’ve evolved.”

Four Dogs, with their sharp ears, were unusually sensitive to the word "evolution," and feigned a casual probe, asking, "What abilities do you have?"

Wasn't it said that everyone in the shelter was a useless piece of trash who couldn't even kill a chicken?

He heard that the most powerful weapon there was something called a radiation gun, but it had serious side effects; anyone who used it would die.

Have the people in the shelter also evolved superpowers?

"I can reduce my own presence." Shi Jin Zheqie Card gave a live demonstration.

After hearing what he said, Si Gou felt that someone was missing behind him. He could only hear two people's footsteps. After taking a few steps, he almost forgot that three people had come in together.

"So, do you believe me now?" Shi Jinzhe asked.

"Ah!...I believe it."

The sudden question from a third person startled Si Gou, who gasped for breath before admitting he believed it.

He wondered where this person came from, then remembered that there should have been such a person all along.

Before Si Gou could ask his next question, Shi Jinzhe countered with, "What kind of superpower do you have?"

"Me?" Si Gou chuckled. "I can eat without ever getting my clothes dirty."

The word "eat" caught Shekh's attention: "You mean eat anything?"

"It's just food that can be eaten normally, not stones or metals. But there's not much to eat usually, so this skill isn't very useful. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been sent out to keep watch."

"That's not necessarily true."

Shekh glanced at the clothes on the four dogs; they were covered in dust, with not a trace of blood.

If someone secretly ate a person alive, no one would notice.

...

After turning a few corners, Si Gou led them to an open space that had obviously been cleaned up.

Shi Jinzhe saw various yellow and black warning signs, indicating that these mutants were even physically stronger than he had imagined.

Aren't you afraid of nuclear radiation?

"Nuclear radiation is harmful to you, but not to us."

A strange male voice came from the depths of the corridor. As the person approached, Shi Jinzhe could see his face clearly.

He was the opposite of Si Gou in height, standing over two meters tall with bulging trapezius muscles and hands bigger than his head. Few people could withstand a single punch from him.

Behind the man were five or six other people, all strangely shaped and resembling different creatures; one little girl even had four arms.

Seeing that Shi Jinzhe and Shehe looked normal, the man showed surprise. "You're not surprised to see me?"

The man he found in the ruined city last night started yelling incessantly as soon as he saw them. In the end, he knocked him unconscious, made him drink a bowl of blood, and threw him back to where he found him the next day.

Not only that man, but the survivors from the shelters they occasionally encountered in the wild all looked at them with extreme fear, their faces practically screaming "monster."

He had never seen two people so calm before.

"By your standards of beauty, we might seem quite unique, nothing to be surprised about."

Shi Jinzhe had noticed Si Gou's disgusted look early on; he genuinely felt that he and Shehe were not good-looking.

We're all in the same boat.

If there was anything surprising, it was that these people were indeed not barbarians who ate raw meat and drank blood. This matched his guess, and their lineage of human heritage had not been broken.

The man laughed loudly after hearing his words, "You're very interesting. You're much more pleasing to the eye than that good-for-nothing from last night."
