Shi Jinzhe nodded: "I remember, she's the girl in the charity storyline who would do anything to get out of the mountains."
Sheh adopted a serious attitude, "It's her. For someone who hasn't seen much of the world, there's no distinction between different classes of seats. Being able to ride a high-speed train is a great way to travel. When I find queuing troublesome, Chai Anan, who is extremely eager to learn about the outside world, should feel very satisfied. So our starting point is already higher than some people's. You have nothing to feel guilty about. Within the limited scope, you are doing your best to make my life better."
She added, "And I was just saying it offhand."
Shi Jinzhe sat there listening, amazed by Sher's progress in understanding human society.
She often makes sarcastic remarks about herself when she talks, but at certain moments she is exceptionally attentive and observant.
Just like before, she didn't treat his words as a joke and laugh them off; instead, she explained them seriously.
When someone accurately picks up on a true feeling while speaking jokingly, and even offers comfort, Shi Jinzhe suddenly experiences a profound sense of satisfaction.
Like a long-lost puzzle piece being found and perfectly fitted to fill the gap, the appearance of this last piece brings more comfort than all the previous thousands of pieces combined.
When the time was up and his heart was full, he glanced at his empty hands and grasped Shekh's.
The slowly moving train and the pedestrians on the platform passed each other. The platform receded into the distance, and the receding scenery gradually became a blur. The train sped along, but his gaze toward Shekh was tender, gentle, and serene.
Feelings mingled, Shekh withdrew his gaze and gently bumped into Shi Jin's body with his leg.
"Are you crying because you're touched by what I've said?"
"Yes, I'm crying inside."
Looking back on the first two months, Shi Jinzhe did feel guilty, especially after being with Sheh. Occasionally, he would regret not having done better.
He squeezed into Shech's chair and settled down. "I think you're more open-minded than I am."
“Because it’s not a big deal.” Shekh took pity on him and offered a few more words of comfort. “Not everyone is pleasing to my eye. If you had taken all the points I earned and spent them on yourself, you would have been finished.”
Once she had a concrete understanding of money, she knew that most of the money was spent on her, so when she wasn't well-off, she could tolerate the noise and long queues for a short time without feeling guilty.
"In layman's terms, you've proven yourself and seized the opportunity."
"As expected of a social snake, you really know how to talk. But..." Shi Jinzhe changed the subject and said, "It's fine to say things like that when you're comforting me, but you still need to look up in life. I hope that when you say you're doing well, you're looking up to better people."
"To be honest, there aren't many people who are doing better than the two of us right now."
Shekh crossed his index fingers, making a big X. "Also, no comparing yourselves to each other, you taught me that."
"Okay, no comparison, we'll listen to Teacher She."
"Since you're being so obedient, you can go back to your seat now. You're crowding me."
Don't you want me to stay here with you?
Shi Jinzhe was starting to regret booking the business class seats. The two seats, one on the left and one on the right, were separated by an aisle. The seats were spacious, but the distance between them was too great.
"I want to sleep," Shekh yawned. "The air conditioning in the carriage is too cold, and I'm feeling sleepy."
Shi Jinzhe took out a blackout eye mask for her, "Then you go to sleep first, I'll sit in the next seat."
Shekh grunted, pulled down his eye mask, and went to sleep.
After a while, he sat back down in his original position, propped his chin up, and gazed out the window, his mind wandering far away.
Shekh slept soundly and didn't get up even when it was mealtime. Shi Jinzhe had very low food needs, and he was fine after drinking half a bottle of mineral water, without feeling hungry at all.
Around 3 p.m., the train stopped at a station in a large city. Unexpectedly, the six-minute stop was delayed for a full hour due to an accident involving the train in front.
To avoid other vehicles, the train stopped on a section of track on the edge of the city, outside the station. Passengers who wanted to get off to smoke were not allowed to do so. The train crew busily moved between different carriages, constantly calming everyone down.
Shekh was awakened by the noise from the adjacent carriage. He lifted his blindfold and asked Shi Jinzhe what was going on.
"The restrooms weren't open when the train stopped, and someone was yelling at them."
Shi Jin leaned closer, his voice low, and whispered in her ear, "We stopped because a car ahead lost signal after entering the tunnel, and when it came out, they found the bodies of three passengers inside. That's what the staff told me."
The passenger information matched the passengers on the train, but nobody knew how these three people got from the speeding train into the tunnel; it was very strange.
He thought of that amazing hot post he had seen before. Could it be that there were copies being generated in the tunnel?
I wish I knew more about that car.
Shekh took a sip of water to moisten his throat. "Is there any more?"
Shi Jinzhe said, "I can't hear from the front of the car, you can try."
Schech closed his eyes, concentrated, and tried to glean limited information from the noisy carriage.
Have you heard? They say those three people died horribly, all missing limbs. I just heard on the phone that the cleanup is almost done, but I'm a little scared. Should we really go through that tunnel?
Don't even think about it. They can't possibly schedule anything for you. It was just an accident. Don't overthink it.
Could it be that some unspeakable secret was discovered in the tunnel, and they're only saying there are dead bodies because they don't want it to be found out?
[This idea is a bit far-fetched, but it sounds plausible. It uses an even more outrageous story to overshadow another, so it's probably just for show.]
[That's true. It's impossible to do that. The windows are sealed, the doors are locked; there's no way someone could get out. It's too far-fetched.]
[Exactly, there are too many suspicious points. It looks fake no matter how you look at it. I guess they're just making things mysterious to avoid the public finding out.]
[It's fake... Ugh, someone's asking again why we haven't driven yet. I have to go now.]
The flight attendants and police officers, who had just gathered together for less than two minutes, dispersed again. Shekh didn't continue listening; apart from the strange and gruesome nature of the death, there was very little useful information.
However, humans are very good at coping with their own problems. They can comfort themselves with just a few words about such a strange thing, which is a kind of optimism.
