Chapter 34 Name

The autumn wind swirled up fallen leaves. Shi Jinzhe, unaware that someone was furious, changed his clothes and walked quickly, carrying a large pile of things in both hands towards the rented house in the suburbs.

As noon approached, he worried that Sheikh might do something incomprehensible if he woke up and couldn't find him. Fortunately, the house was quiet when he entered.

Shi Jinzhe gently opened the door. Shehe, who was curled up on the bed, turned her head. She was lying in her own coiled tail, covered with a blanket, looking a little listless.

Upon seeing this, she turned back and slowly uttered a single word: "Hungry."

"You look a little tired. Didn't you get enough rest?"

"I'm so hungry." Shekh nuzzled his tail, looking a little sleepy.

"Wait a minute, I've bought the groceries and I'll cook for you right away."

She yawned: "I want to sunbathe."

The sun feels so nice on my skin, and it even looks like a salted egg yolk. It looks and tastes delicious.

But after waking up in the morning, she spent a long time trying to open the curtain, but couldn't. She could only curl up to make herself more comfortable.

Shi Jinzhe saw that the curtains were mostly pulled open and discovered that the blinds inside were intact.

He breathed a sigh of relief; he had been careless. It was fortunate that Shekh hadn't forced the doors open. If they had been fully opened and someone outside had seen her through the window, that would have been a real disaster.

After careful consideration, he mustered his courage and walked to the bedside, his expression serious: "Shekh, there are some things I need to tell you."

Shekh is not an ignorant child; her lack of understanding of human society stems from unfamiliarity, not from a lack of ability.

Shi Jinzhe did not intend to use the method of coaxing a child to explain these things. Deception is not a long-term solution. Just because Shehe's form is special, she cannot keep hiding like this, unable to even open the curtains to bask in the sun.

If the backpack cannot be retrieved, Schech can't be locked up indefinitely.

Moreover, locking her up is only when she's in a good mood. If she really doesn't want to, I can't stop her at all. In that case, it won't just be Shekh who's in danger, but also others.

"Let me make it clear beforehand that I'm not saying this for any other reason, but there are some things you need to understand."

Sensing Shi Jinzhe's earnestness, Sher propped himself up and silently awaited his next words.

"..." Shi Jinzhe immediately turned his back and took the clothes he had bought for her. "...Put these clothes on first."

Listening to the rustling of fabric behind him, he shared his thoughts, adding many nice words to make it sound more pleasant to Sheikh.

"No one in this world has ever been as powerful, elegant, and mysterious as you, at least not yet. You must know that human curiosity and thirst for knowledge are very strong, and some people are evil, so you cannot let anyone see this unique appearance of you."

"How evil you are, whether you hit me or kill me." Shekh stopped picking up his clothes, his tone light and casual, as if he didn't care.

But her voice trailed off, and Shi Jinzhe could still detect some displeasure in her tone. Nevertheless, he still had to say what needed to be said.

"I can't say for sure, but it's not a good thing. They might not kill or fight you, but they'll try every means to capture you, study your body every day, experiment on your snake tail, and even exhibit you for people to see."

Are those people like you, just ordinary humans?

"Yes, but humans have many powerful weapons. I don't know if you can handle them. I just think that here, you can face everyone in a different way, and you look good in that way too."

"If everyone were like you, I wouldn't be afraid."

Shi Jinzhe felt she was being looked down upon; her way of expressing contempt was truly unique and unconventional.

“But if something happens to you, I will be in great danger too.” Shi Jinzhe spoke frankly, “You are very important to me, my life is in your hands.”

Are you worried that something might happen to me?

"I'm very worried."

Shekh straightened up behind him: "Then you don't need to worry if you die first."

Time is running out: ...

She propped herself up on the bed with her tail, and slowly leaned down, pressing her body against Shi Jin's folded back.

With the help of the bed and the snake's tail, she was able to stand up and be half a head taller than Shi Jinzhe.

Shekh used one hand to grab his chin from behind and lift it up, exposing his bent neck, while his other hand went around to the front and pressed down on his chest to stabilize his body.

Shi Jinzhe turned his head, his Adam's apple bobbing: "I'm telling you this because I don't want to lie to you. I really need you in the dungeon, and I hope nothing happens to you."

Shekh ignored him, opened his mouth, and flicked out two sharp fangs, one of which had a large, translucent, bright yellow droplet of venom hanging from its tip.

The drop of venom landed on Shi Jinzhe's neck, causing the veins on his neck to throb twice.

"Shekh, you are special. I hope you can protect yourself."

"I have always been protecting myself."

Before Shi Jinzhe could continue speaking, the venomous fangs pierced his skin, and blood flowed from the wound. Shi Jinzhe endured the pain, neither resisting nor continuing to speak.

A drop of blood from the broken thread stained his lips. Shekh paused for a few seconds, then withdrew his fangs. "Why didn't you dodge?"

"You didn't intend to kill me."

Shekh didn't press her hand firmly against her chest, and the venom was expelled beforehand. She probably just didn't want to hear those words, so she wanted to clean herself up.

Most importantly, compared to the entanglement she caused in the dungeon last time, her killing intent was much less.

However, doing this repeatedly is a real test of his mental resilience.

Shekh found the scare tactic pointless, so he relaxed and sat back on the bed without saying whether he agreed or not.

"I want to eat."

"Then wait for me for half an hour."

Shi Jinzhe opened his phone and found her a movie, the kind that's about a psychopathic scientist.

"If you can understand it, listen to the original version; if you can't, click here to switch to the dubbed version."

Only after seeing her use the end of her tail to hold her phone as a stand, lying back on the bed to look at it, did Shi Jinzhe leave the room.

When he went grocery shopping in the morning, he specifically asked the vendor to cut all the meat into small pieces. The communal kitchen hadn't been used much, so it was clean enough. He cooked the meal as quickly as possible, and Shi Jinzhe accompanied Shehe, feeding him meat while watching.

After she had eaten her fill, Shi Jinzhe gave her two books.

"What's this."

"I promised to write your name, but I don't know you well enough yet, so you can choose which characters to use, since it's your name after all."

Although he guessed that the name Shehe was a transliteration of the name that someone who was afraid of snakes would say when they saw her, he thought that writing it randomly would be too perfunctory, so Shi Jinzhe still wanted to give it a better meaning.

Sheh opened the book; although she couldn't read, she took the choice of her name very seriously.

They'll ask questions about strange gestures, different numbers of characters, and even different pronunciations.

The two people flipped through the two books from noon until the afternoon, and in the end, Shekh chose the word "She" from the phrase "unwavering in the face of death" as his surname.

She liked the meaning of the word, a liking she couldn't find a reason for; a voice in her heart told her that this should be her name.

"What about the word 'he'?"

"This one," Shekh said casually, "This one has more characters."

"Oh, God, your presence is awe-inspiring!" Shi Jinzhe laughed. She had to admit, she really knew how to choose.

He picked up a pen and wrote the two characters "Shekh" on the paper, then handed it over with both hands, saying, "Your name, please keep it safe."
