The night was as dark as ink, and the corridor of the VIP ward was silent, with only the sound of their footsteps echoing in the empty space.

The scene here was a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the emergency room downstairs. Cheng Boyan carried the child, his steps steady, with Wen Xueyan and Aunt Zhang following closely behind. He headed straight for the nurses' station, where the on-duty nurse, clearly already notified, immediately stood up and led them into a prepared ward.

The ward was spacious and clean, and the soft lighting dispelled the coldness of the hospital.

Cheng Boyan carefully placed the child on the hospital bed, her movements gentle.

Soon, the hospitalization procedures were completed. The efficiency was so high that Wen Xueyan felt as if the ordeal of queuing and arguing downstairs was just a dream.

Before long, the vice president arrived personally, accompanied by a chief pediatrician. The doctor meticulously examined the child, listening to his heart, checking his throat, and inquiring about his symptoms. Cheng Boyan stood by his side throughout.

After a series of examinations, the chief physician said, "It's a high fever caused by a cold. We've already given you medication and used physical cooling methods, and your temperature should gradually come under control. You'll be hospitalized for observation overnight, mainly to prevent febrile seizures."

The vice president added gently, "The nurses here are all experienced and will monitor the entire process. If anything happens, just press the call button. Our nurses will come to check your temperature every two hours."

After the doctor left, only they and the child on the bed remained in the ward, who gradually fell asleep peacefully as the fever subsided.

Wen Xueyan looked towards the door and said softly, "That vice dean seemed to be exceptionally polite to you."

Cheng Boyan was bending down to straighten the child's blanket: "His daughter graduated with a master's degree last year and is now interning at a technology company under my company."

He looked up and met Wen Xueyan's gaze. His deep eyes held a knowing understanding of the ways of the world: "The relationships in this world are often like an interwoven web. When interviewing or hiring employees, I have HR conduct background checks."

Wen Xueyan gazed at his composed profile and suddenly realized that beneath this man's calm and rational exterior lay a profound understanding of human nature.

"Xueyan, go and rest on the sofa for a while," Cheng Boyan said in a low voice. "I'll stay with the baby."

Wen Xueyan wanted to refuse, but exhaustion washed over her like a tide. In the end, she gave in and sat down on the sofa by the window.

As night deepened, only a soft bedside lamp illuminated the ward. She watched Cheng Boyan's back as he sat by the bedside, his broad shoulders casting a reassuring silhouette under the lamplight.

Wen Xueyan sat on the sofa. She had only intended to close her eyes and rest for a moment, but the warm room temperature and the child's steady breathing were like the best soothing music. Her eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and she eventually fell into a deep sleep.

Cheng Boyan gently walked to the sofa, picked up a thin blanket, and covered her with it. Then, he pulled over a chair and sat down by the hospital bed.

Cheng Boyan barely slept a wink all night. Only a dim bedside lamp was lit in the ward, its soft light outlining his silent profile.

He used the back of his finger several times to test the temperature of the child's forehead, feeling the burning sensation gradually fade and turn into a normal warm temperature; following the nurse's advice, he used a cotton swab dipped in warm water to carefully moisten the child's slightly chapped lips.

This was the first time Cheng Boyan had spent the entire night with his child.

Wen Xueyan woke up once in the first half of the night, feeling momentarily disoriented. She looked at the hospital bed; the child was sleeping peacefully, breathing evenly. Then, she saw Cheng Boyan sitting by the bed. He was in almost the same position, his coat casually draped over the back of the chair, his shirt collar slightly open, a few stubbles on his chin, and bloodshot eyes, but his gaze was unusually clear.

The moment their eyes met, an indescribable warmth and sense of security enveloped her.

"Your temperature has basically come down; it was 37.3 degrees Celsius just now. You can continue sleeping." His voice was deep and reassuring.

By late at night, the child's fever had finally subsided completely, and his breathing became steady and long. Cheng Boyan gently tucked him in and turned to walk to the sofa.

Wen Xueyan felt someone approaching while she was in a light sleep. She opened her eyes groggily and saw Cheng Boyan bending down to cover her with the thin blanket that had slipped off.

"Don't worry, the baby's fever has completely subsided. The nurse just came to confirm, it's 36.5 degrees Celsius. It will be dawn in two hours." His voice was exceptionally clear in the silence, carrying a hint of relief.

Wen Xueyan wanted to get up to check, but he gently pressed her down.

Then, he lowered his head and kissed her lips.

His lips were warm, and his movements carried a restrained passion.

After he ended that long kiss, his forehead was still pressed against hers, their breaths mingling close together. His hands still cupped her cheeks, his thumb unconsciously caressing her sensitive earlobe, sending shivers down her spine.

Cheng Boyan's gaze slowly moved down, undisguisedly burning, landing on her curves that undulated slightly as she breathed.

“Here…” His voice was even lower and hoarseer than before. The hand that had been lingering by her ear slowly slid down, its slender fingers, warm through the thin fabric, gently covering her, its palm caressing her soft curves.

He even clenched his fingers and weighed it very lightly, the action carrying a subtle sense of possessiveness.

"Is it because you've gotten bigger after having the baby? I didn't have a chance to ask at your place last time. I've been busy with business trips ever since, and I really missed you." He asked, his gaze fixed on her instantly flushed face, not missing a single subtle change in her expression. "I remember it used to be A, is it B or C now?"

This blunt question made Wen Xueyan's cheeks burn instantly. She subconsciously raised her hand to push away his wrist that was on top of hers, but as soon as her fingertips touched his warm skin, he grabbed her hand instead.

"Hmm?" He let out a low, urging sound, while his other hand began to slowly slide along her waist, carrying sparks of passion.

She lowered her eyelashes: "It's C."

The moment she finished speaking, she felt the hand covering her tighten slightly. His Adam's apple bobbed heavily, and the last trace of restrained tenderness in his eyes was completely swallowed by a surge of darkness.

“C?” He repeated it, as if confirming, or perhaps just unconsciously savoring the impact of the letter. He lowered his head, his hot breath spraying onto her sensitive neck, causing her to tremble slightly.

"Mr. Xi is still abroad. If the baby is discharged today, would you like to bring the baby to stay at my house tonight? Let me take a good look at the baby." He rubbed her hand again, then said this almost close to her ear, with an undeniable forcefulness.

“I will take safety precautions tonight,” he added, his tone serious and restrained.

Two hours later, when the morning light shone into the ward through the gaps in the curtains, the child had already woken up.

The little guy was in good spirits after his fever broke. He opened his big, dark eyes and waved his little hand when he saw Cheng Boyan approaching.

Cheng Boyan was stunned. He carefully extended his finger, and the child immediately grasped it tightly with his little hand, laughing even more happily.

Wen Xueyan stood aside, watching the natural closeness between the father and son, and the softest part of her heart was gently touched.

At 8:00 AM sharp, the doctor came to check on the patient. After the examination, the doctor smiled with relief: "Your temperature is completely normal. However, the cough and runny nose may persist for a few more days; this is your body cleaning up, and you need careful care. If your temperature remains stable this afternoon, you can be discharged."

As if to confirm the doctor's words, the child suddenly opened his eyes and giggled at Cheng Boyan. The laughter was as clear as a bell and echoed in the ward.

Wen Xueyan breathed a soft sigh of relief.

After the doctor left, Cheng Boyan stood by the window, the morning light casting a golden glow on his sharp suit. He glanced at the time and said to Wen Xueyan, "Is it convenient for you to take the day off today to take care of the baby at the hospital? I need to go to the company to handle a few urgent matters this morning, and I'll pick you up at five o'clock this afternoon. If you're not available, I'll arrange for someone to come over."

"I'm free." Wen Xueyan nodded, watching his tall figure disappear into the ward door.

Wen Xueyan stayed by the child's side all day.

The afternoon sun was shining brightly as she strolled by the window, holding her child and watching the bustling traffic below.

At 5 p.m., after completing the discharge procedures, Cheng Boyan carried the child, and the three of them walked towards the hospital gate.

Just as they were about to step out of the first-floor door, Wen Xueyan suddenly stopped.

Xu Junheng helped Wen Xueyan's cousin, Wen Haijing, out of the car and they were walking towards the hospital entrance.

Wen Xueyan's heart sank. How could the two of them appear together?

A week ago, Wen Haijing suddenly paid off all the debts she had borrowed from her several times. When Wen Xueyan asked her why, she said it was because the school had given her a scholarship.

But now...

Xu Junheng is married with children, but he is also said to have had other girlfriends. He was confirmed to have been falsely accused in the United States at the end of last year, and was later released and returned to China.

Why did he come to the hospital with Wen Haijing? And why did it have to be a maternity and children's hospital? This hospital mainly has pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology departments.

Xu Junheng's gaze swept over the child in Cheng Boyan's arms, finally landing on Wen Xueyan's face.

There was no surprise, no questioning in those eyes, only an unfathomable indifference. He clearly knew that Wen Xueyan was now President Xi's wife, yet he saw Cheng Boyan holding a child.

Xu Junheng didn't say anything, only a faint smile appeared on his lips, as if he were watching a play.

"Sister..." Wen Haijing spoke timidly, her voice barely audible.

"Jingjing, what's wrong? Who is he to you?" Wen Xueyan stepped forward and urgently grasped her cousin's cold hand.

"It's nothing, I'm just feeling a little unwell..." Wen Haijing avoided her gaze.

Xu Junheng finally spoke, his voice calm: "Miss Wen is my friend. She's not feeling well, so I brought her here for a checkup." His gaze swept past Wen Xueyan and went straight to Cheng Boyan. "Mr. Cheng, what a coincidence, are you bringing someone else's wife and child to the doctor?"
