30. Chief Protector Cheng

30. Chief Protector Cheng

Wen Xueyan struggled, her heels hitting the door frame with a dull thud.

The man's strength far exceeded her resistance; he closed the door and threw her onto the sofa.

His body pressed down on hers. One hand remained over her mouth, while the other began to roam over her body.

When his rough hands reached under her suit skirt, Wen Xueyan suddenly pushed his arm away with her hand.

However, the opponent's strength was too great.

With a ripping sound, her shirt was ripped open, the buttons popping off the floor. The cold air touched her bare skin, sending a shiver down her spine.

The man lowered his head, his lips pressing greedily against her fair shoulder. Wen Xueyan turned her head away.

In the darkness, she could hear the other person's heavy breathing.

"I'm going to win you over today!"

In the darkness, the man's silhouette gradually became clear, three parts familiar, seven parts the appearance of a refined scoundrel.

"Let me go!"

Wen Xueyan smelled a scent of cologne on him.

"Do you remember this taste?" the man sneered, his voice almost like that of a pervert. "In the company's copy room, I imagined you being pinned down on the printer."

Wen Xueyan's memory suddenly flashed back: Gu Hui, the general manager's assistant who was always impeccably dressed in a suit and appeared dignified before he was fired.

"Gu Hui?"

The man paused, then became even more violent: "You remember me? Very well! Do you know how hard it is for me to find a job? No company wants me! All because of your pretentious report! And with a criminal record, even if I find a job in the future, it won't be convenient for me to harass female employees again!"

Gu Hui showed no remorse whatsoever.

"You think you're in the right to harass your employees?"

"They didn't say anything! You're so high and mighty! You think you can't touch me! You went to court today because you got a divorce, right? I followed you from court. Now that you're divorced, no one's backing you up anymore." Gu Hui roared, pressing down again.

Wen Xueyan wanted to push him away forcefully, but every time she pushed him, he immediately pushed her back.

"Now you're scared?" the man sneered, roughly grabbing her chin with his other hand. "I only touched you once in the printing room, and you're going to ruin my life? Now the whole industry knows, and I don't want to let you off the hook either."

Gu Hui's lips drew closer again, and Wen Xueyan reached for the glass vase on the coffee table. With all her might, she grabbed the vase and smashed it against his head.

With a muffled thud, the sound of shattering glass exploded in the darkness.

Gu Hui abruptly stopped moving and made a muffled sound.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Wen Xueyan broke free and hid in the bedroom, using a stool to prop the door shut. In the darkness, she heard him stagger to his feet, cursing and swearing.

"You wait, you actually dared to break my head! I'm going to the hospital now, and I'll definitely come back for you later," Gu Hui threatened vaguely, clutching his head.

The door opened and closed again, leaving a moment of silence.

Wen Xueyan trembled as she pulled her torn shirt tighter.

Wen Xueyan hid in her bedroom, wanting to call the police, but her phone was still in the living room. She didn't dare go out, worried that Gu Hui would come back and retaliate.

About five minutes later, footsteps were heard coming from the living room.

Wen Xueyan huddled in the corner of the bedroom, her back against the cold wall, clutching a hardcover book she had picked up from the desk, *The Second Sex*. Simone de Beauvoir's words had once given her strength; now, this book was her weapon.

She forced herself to stay calm and held back her tears. She gripped the book tightly, ready to smash it over the head of the person who entered the room the moment the door was pushed open.

"Xueyan? Are you home?"

That calm and familiar voice instantly shattered her defenses.

It's a Cheng Bo inkstone!

The living room lights were on, and light seeped into the bedroom through the crack in the door.

Wen Xueyan's tears finally flowed uncontrollably, a mixture of humiliation, fear, and a sense of relief. She unlocked the door.

Cheng Boyan stood in the center of the living room, his gaze sweeping over the chaotic scene. His expression shifted from confusion to shock.

When he saw Wen Xueyan standing at the bedroom door with her clothes torn, he immediately took off his suit jacket, strode forward, wrapped it around her, and gently embraced her.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here." His voice was deep and firm as he wrapped his arms around her.

Wen Xueyan buried her face in his chest.

A moment later, Cheng Boyan stepped back slightly, cupped Wen Xueyan's face in his hands, and gently wiped away her tears with his thumbs. "What happened? Are you hurt?" His question was direct and calm.

Wen Xueyan tried to calm herself down and briefly recounted Gu Hui's attack.

Cheng Boyan responded, "I'll take you to the hospital for treatment and a check-up."

He then noticed the bleeding wound on Wen Xueyan's arm. Wen Xueyan explained that she had been cut by a shard of a vase during the struggle.

In the emergency room, Wen Xueyan had just sat down when she saw a doctor in a white coat. He was tall and straight, with delicate yet handsome features, and bright, gentle eyes behind his gold-rimmed glasses.

"Dr. Qi?" She recognized him; he was Ning Zhixia's boyfriend.

Inside the clinic, Qi Wenmu professionally and gently treated Wen Xueyan's wounds, while Cheng Boyan waited quietly by her side.

"The wound isn't too deep, but we need to take precautions against infection," Qi Wenmu said.

Wen Xueyan felt that Ning Zhiyi's current boyfriend was much better than her ex-husband. But it was precisely because he was so outstanding and had been single for so long that it made her feel vaguely uneasy.

At least, his profession and identity as a doctor are real, Wen Xueyan thought.

On the way home, Cheng Boyan remained silent. The city outside the car window was ablaze with lights. Wen Xueyan leaned back in her seat, watching the street scenes rush by, the bandaged wound on her arm throbbing slightly.

After settling Wen Xueyan on the living room sofa, Cheng Boyan made her a cup of hot tea and handed it to her before asking, "Are you afraid Gu Hui will retaliate against you?"

Wen Xueyan held the warm teacup in both hands and said, "Mmm."

Cheng Boyan sat down beside her, his gaze calm and resolute. "Your concerns are reasonable and rational, and have nothing to do with cowardice."

He said slowly, “I admire your courage. Overstepping boundaries in the workplace is not uncommon. Many people choose to remain silent out of necessity or fear of gossip. But you chose to face it all, which takes great courage. Some men appear refined on the surface but are actually despicable inside. Your choice is not only for yourself, but also for all those who have remained silent.”

"Thank you for understanding me. If it were my mom, she would probably tell me to be patient, but I can understand that she was also alone and helpless at the time."

Cheng Boyan gently pulled Wen Xueyan into his arms: "How about we go house hunting this weekend and find a place with a security gate downstairs?"

Wen Xueyan nodded: "Okay." She hesitated for a moment, then added, "Speaking of houses, my ex-husband Song Tiancheng said he would transfer the property in Platinum Yue International to me."

Cheng Boyan frowned slightly: "Are you going to stay here?"

“I don’t understand why he’s willing to give me the whole house instead of half the ownership, so I’m not going to live there yet,” Wen Xueyan explained.

"If Gu Hui wants to retaliate, should I be more careful when I go out in the future?" she asked again.

Cheng Boyan tightened his grip: "Don't be afraid. After tonight, he won't dare to hurt you again. I'm sure of it."

As he said this, there was a hint of ruthlessness in his tone, "You rest first, I'm going to make a phone call."

After taking a shower, Wen Xueyan lay on the bed wearing a soft nightgown.

After the sound of water in the bathroom stopped, Cheng Boyan came to the bed, gently embraced her from behind, and pulled her into his arms. Wen Xueyan's back pressed against his broad chest, and she felt that his embrace was warm and safe, dispelling the chill and fear of the night.

Only a warm yellow wall lamp cast a soft glow in the room. Cheng Boyan's fingertips gently stroked the strands of hair scattered on her pillow.

“You’ve already finalized your divorce,” he said. “Once mine is sorted out, let’s get married quickly and have a child, okay?”

Wen Xueyan was slightly taken aback.

Cheng Boyan's fingertips traced her cheek again as he continued, "I hope to have a daughter, as intelligent and clever as you. Imagine a little girl with your eyes and your stubbornness; I will teach her about the world and nurture her as she grows up."

Wen Xueyan looked out the window at the deep night. The suggestion to have a child came suddenly, yet it seemed as if a seed had already been planted in some corner of her heart.

She thought of her broken marriage, her ex-husband's avoidance of having children, and the nights she spent alone, doubting whether she was worthy of being loved.

“I’ll file the lawsuit next month.” Cheng Boyan’s voice pulled her back from her reverie. “If all goes well, it should be done by the end of this year. The thought of being deceived for five years makes me want to get it done as soon as possible. Sleep well, Xueyan.”

Cheng Boyan's hand gently stroked her shoulder, then lightly rubbed it downwards. Wen Xueyan felt a tingling sensation and sensed his reaction, but he didn't make any further moves. Instead, he closed his eyes and released his hand, seemingly preparing to fall asleep.

Before long, Wen Xueyan felt his body getting hotter and hotter, and asked softly, "Do you want to do it?"

Cheng Boyan's voice was low and restrained: "I thought you needed to rest. You were frightened tonight, are you alright?"
