Chapter 44 Belittling Children
Sister Li's daughter attends a preschool class, but doesn't live in the same building as those who are in elementary school.
After parting ways with Sister-in-law Li, Jiang Ning asked the students on the way which floor the second-year students lived on.
She attracted a lot of attention as soon as she entered the school, with many eyes scrutinizing her.
When they found Huo Zhiqi's class, they overheard a chubby child saying that her adoptive mother was no good.
She wanted to go over and grab the child by the ear to ask her what was wrong with her.
Then you can see Zhiqi's face darkened, his fists clenched, looking like he's about to make a move.
Jiang Ning quickly spoke up.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone in the class, she walked to Zhiqi's desk and glanced indifferently at the chubby boy. Wasn't this the boy she had given a beating to last time?
Jiang Ning said, "Give my child back their homework."
Seeing that the child didn't move, Jiang Ning's eyes narrowed. "Want to have another 'bamboo shoots stir-fried with pork'?"
Normally, Wang Xiaotian's eyes would light up at the mention of food, but what this woman who had hit him was definitely not a nice thing to say.
Wang Xiaotian's chubby face tightened, and he dropped his homework and ran away.
Jiang Ning frowned; she hated impolite children the most.
Many girls nowadays are unwilling to have more children. It's fine if they have a well-behaved child, but if they have a clumsy child, they'll suffer for the rest of their lives.
Suddenly, her sleeve was tugged. Jiang Ning looked down and saw Huo Zhiqi's big eyes looking at her, filled with an unreadable emotion. "Sit down."
When parents come to parent-teacher meetings, the children will give up their chairs for their parents to sit on.
Jiang Ning readily agreed and sat down.
The little guy seemed surprised by her appearance; his eyes were filled with unease, and his two little hands were twisting together.
Jiang Ning reached out and pinched his cheek. "Remember to tell me if there are any school events in the future, or you can tell your Uncle Shen."
"Okay." Huo Zhiqi nodded.
Her obedient appearance is truly heartbreaking.
Where can you find such a well-behaved and obedient child?
Jiang Ning reached out and ruffled his hair, then gave him two candies. "Alright, the parent-teacher conference is about to start. Go wait outside."
Huo Zhiqi and the two children from the Wang family are the same age and in the same class.
Grandma Wang also came to attend the parent-teacher conference for her two grandsons. When she saw Jiang Ning speaking kindly to Huo Zhiqi and even giving him candy, she scoffed coldly, "Tch, all pretense. Who knows what she's like behind closed doors."
Sitting next to Old Mrs. Wang was one of her old friends, who was also a military dependent in the family compound.
She asked curiously, "Sister Wang, is that girl really as bad as you said, treating children without parents badly? She doesn't seem like it."
Grandma Wang said to her, "Would you hit your child in front of outsiders?"
The old woman thought for a moment and said, "That's still possible. My grandson is naughty and mischievous. His dad often makes him run all over the compound."
"......"
The person at the table in front of them who was listening to their conversation chimed in, "My kid is the same way. Every time he throws a tantrum, he deserves a beating. It shouldn't be a big deal to spank him. They say children learn filial piety through discipline."
"However, that child was adopted. As the saying goes, no matter how adopted a child is, they are not as good as biological children. It's really hard to say about that relationship."
Grandma Wang's eyes lit up when she heard this: "You'll know when you come to her house with me in a couple of days. If she really abuses the children, I'll report her for abusing the children of martyrs' families."
She still remembers the grudge that Jiang Ning beat up her grandson last time, and she's determined to make that woman pay.
Jiang Ning had no idea that someone could be so utterly devoid of moral principles.
Parents entered the classroom one after another, and when it was time, the teacher also walked into the classroom with books in hand and her head held high.
Some of the children outside were peering out from the windowsill, while others were clinging to the door frame.
The teacher began with a standard opening, introducing himself. Huo Zhiqi's homeroom teacher's surname was Feng.
Teacher Feng spoke until her throat was dry, praising the school, the leaders, and the teachers, and finally called out the names of several children.
These are all the top students in the class, and we're praising them to the skies.
The parents applauded.
Jiang Ning observed the expressions on everyone's faces in the class with boredom, especially the parents who saw their children being called up for praise; they all had swan-like necks.
Sure enough, no matter the era, children are everywhere.
After praising a group of children, Teacher Feng's tone suddenly turned serious. "Now that I've praised the students with good grades, I'll call out and criticize the students with the worst grades in our class."
He called out the names of several students, and Jiang Ning heard Zhiqi's name when it was the last one called.
Jiang Ning was somewhat surprised. She had taught that child English, and given his intelligence, he couldn't possibly be a poor student.
Is it because he's unbalanced in his studies?
When Huo Zhiqi heard Teacher Feng call his name, he immediately leaned over the windowsill and nervously watched Jiang Ning.
Every time Teacher Feng holds a parent-teacher meeting, she compares the high-achieving students with the low-achieving students.
Teacher Feng glanced at the window and immediately said in a serious tone, "Huo Zhiqi, stop leaning against the window and come in quickly."
Jiang Ning frowned as she looked at the children standing side by side on the platform, their heads bowed as if they were about to be scolded.
She felt that the teacher's teaching methods were inappropriate.
Although there are also forms of punitive education, using poor students to highlight high-achieving students puts immense psychological pressure on those students who perform poorly.
Are Chen Meihong's parents here?
"Teacher Feng called out."
"Yes, Teacher Feng."
A simply dressed middle-aged woman stood up from her seat. She was called up because her daughter was a poor student, and she was somewhat embarrassed.
The gazes coming from all around her almost melted her away.
She was also feeling frustrated and disappointed in her child, wondering how she would discipline her when she got back. It was infuriating.
"You're Chen Meihong's parent, right? Your child is really bad at math! She often makes mistakes on even the most basic arithmetic problems. You adults need to supervise her more to help her memorize the arithmetic tables."
When Teacher Feng said "very, very bad," her tone was so strong that the parent was so embarrassed that she didn't dare to lift her head. She repeatedly replied, "Yes, yes, I will definitely supervise my daughter when I get home. My daughter often says that she doesn't understand many things when she gets home, but we haven't studied it and don't know how to teach her."
"Girls are indeed not good at science, which is normal. I teach all the children the same way. There's nothing we can do if a child isn't quick-witted."
Jiang Ning frowned. How could a teacher say such things in front of children?
Upon hearing the teacher say that their child was mentally challenged, the parent's face flushed red, and they repeatedly said, "It's our problem, it's our problem."
Jiang Ning: "???"
When their own child is belittled, why don't these parents do anything about it?
She looked up at the podium and saw that the little girl whose name had just been called had red eyes, filled with tears that streamed down her cheeks.
Teacher Feng then called several parents up and discussed some of their children's problems.
The parents were so ashamed and indignant by the teacher's words that they couldn't lift their heads. Those who mustered up the courage to say a few words in rebuttal were all silenced by the teacher.
They also told them to stop spoiling the child.
When talking about the last student.
Are Huo Zhiqi's parents here?
When Huo Zhiqi, who was on the podium, heard his name called, his small body stiffened.
Jiang Ning didn't have a good impression of this Teacher Feng, so she didn't get up. Instead, she lazily raised her arm and said, "Here, you can speak."
