Chapter 57 Delivering a Child
The midwife was pacing anxiously in the room. She knew how to deliver babies, but she couldn't turn the baby into the correct position because it was breech.
If this continues, both the pregnant woman and the child will be in danger. Although many people have died because of childbirth, we don't want to see a life lost like this.
Jiang Ning walked over quickly. The pregnant woman was already exhausted from exerting too much force, and her voice wasn't as loud as before.
Jiang Ning checked the situation and immediately took out a ginseng slice from the medicine box and put it in the pregnant woman's mouth.
"Don't push now, let me help you turn the baby into the correct position."
"Doctor, I'm in so much pain, so much pain!" The pregnant woman suddenly grabbed Jiang Ning's hand. "If anything really happens, you must save my baby first."
Jiang Ning watched as the woman held her hand, saying she would protect the child. She couldn't describe her feelings at that moment, but she could only say that a mother's love makes her strong.
She was already in unbearable pain, but she still thought of her child first.
Jiang Ning comforted her, "You'll be fine, and the baby will be fine too."
As she spoke, she took out silver needles, quickly and accurately inserted them into the acupoints, first helping the pregnant woman stop the bleeding, and then inserting a few more needles to relieve the pain.
Jiang Ning administered the acupuncture, then got up and went to the pregnant belly.
The midwife was initially skeptical when she saw how young Jiang Ning was, wondering if such a young girl could really handle it. However, after Jiang Ning quickly and accurately inserted a few needles, the pregnant woman's complexion improved considerably, and she immediately felt relieved.
In this critical moment, anything that can save lives is good.
Jiang Ning reached out and touched the pregnant woman's belly, then slowly turned the breech baby back into its original position. After turning it back, Jiang Ning wiped her forehead and then taught her the Lamaze breathing method, "Don't shout and waste your energy. Follow your breath, listen to me, inhale deeply, then exhale..."
Seeing that the baby was in the right position, the midwife's eyes lit up and she gave Jiang Ning a sharp look before coming between the pregnant woman's legs to help her give birth.
Seeing that the pain had subsided, the pregnant woman's breathing gradually calmed down. Listening to Jiang Ning and the midwife's words, she adjusted her breathing rhythm.
Giving birth is like a brush with death for a woman.
After several hours, Jiang Ning said, "The cervix is fully dilated, push!"
Listening to Jiang Ning's words, the pregnant woman endured intense pain, her hair soaked with sweat, but she didn't slacken her efforts at all; she had to give birth to this child.
She endured hardship, carrying the child for ten months.
Several hours later, the pregnant woman finally gave birth to the baby at around six o'clock the next morning.
The moment a woman gives birth, she feels a sudden sense of relief throughout her body, and the intense pain has almost subsided.
Jiang Ning had the midwife hold the baby and cut the umbilical cord, then wiped the baby clean and wrapped it up with a clean cloth.
Seeing the baby born safely, Jiang Ning and the midwife breathed a sigh of relief at the same time. Giving birth is a strenuous activity, and everyone was on high alert.
The midwife took the baby out, and Jiang Ning brought over a bowl of brown sugar water that had been prepared beforehand and fed it to the pregnant woman.
The baby had already been born, and Jiang Ning had stitched up the pregnant woman's tear, applied medicine, and given her acupuncture to relieve the pain.
After drinking the water, the pregnant woman held Jiang Ning's hand, expressing her gratitude profusely, and even burst into tears, saying, "Thank you, thank you, doctor. If it weren't for you, I and my baby probably wouldn't have survived."
The midwife told her from the beginning that if the baby didn't turn right, not only would the baby be in trouble, but she would also die.
This is a life-saving grace.
Even as she cried, the woman didn't forget to ask Jiang Ning's name, "Comrade, what's your name?"
Jiang Ning told her her name, and then comforted her, "You've just given birth, so remember not to experience extreme joy or sorrow."
Hearing Jiang Ning's words, the woman stopped crying. She held Jiang Ning's hand tightly and refused to let go. "I... I'll have my husband give you a banner of appreciation, and I'll have my grandfather write you a letter of commendation. My grandfather is the village chief of this village. Comrade Jiang, which village are you from?"
Jiang Ning patted her hand and said, "I live in the military family compound here. Saving lives is a doctor's duty, so there's no need for praise."
Jiang Ning is an idiot. She remembered that the annual commendation or something would be broadcast over the loudspeaker, and the whole residential compound would hear it. How embarrassing would that be?
The woman said, "You're a military family member! No wonder you have such an extraordinary air about you; you're of good character and have excellent medical skills."
After delivering the baby, Jiang Ning was drenched in sweat and felt sticky and uncomfortable. She planned to go home immediately to take a shower and rest, but the pregnant woman's family insisted that she have breakfast before going home.
The other party was too enthusiastic, and Jiang Ning couldn't refuse, so she stayed for a simple meal.
Jiang Ning went to the clinic first. She left in a hurry last night. Before leaving, Jiang Ning asked Huang Xiaodong to tell the sentry at the gate of the family compound that she was going to deliver a baby for someone. The sentry would tell Zhiqi about it so that the child wouldn't have to worry.
When Jiang Ning returned to her family compound, it was right when everyone was at work. As she rode her bicycle home, she attracted a lot of attention, and she inexplicably sensed hostility in those gazes.
Jiang Ning didn't think much of it; all she wanted to do right now was get home quickly, take a shower, and get some sleep.
When he got home, Zhiqi was on his way to school.
Upon seeing Jiang Ning return, Huo Zhiqi's eyes lit up. "Mom."
Jiang Ning reached out and touched his head. "I didn't go home last night. Were you scared?"
"I'm not scared." Huo Zhiqi shook his head. "The sentry uncle said yesterday that you went to help someone deliver a baby."
After saying that, he pointed to the kitchen and said, "Mom, I've boiled some bath water for you; it's on the stove."
Jiang Ning said, "Okay, go to school."
Zhiqi went to school, and Jiang Ning washed her hair and took a shower. After her hair dried, she had a nice, restful sleep.
In the afternoon, Jiang Ning was woken up by a knock on the door.
Jiang Ning heard a knock on the door, put on her clothes, and went to open it. It was Sister Li who knocked.
As soon as Sister Li saw Jiang Ning, she immediately said, "Jiang Ning, your son Zhiqi got into a fight at school. You need to come to the school with me right away!"
When Jiang Ning heard that Zhiqi was fighting, her expression immediately changed, and she immediately followed Sister Li toward the school.
As the two hurriedly walked to the entrance of the family compound, Jiang Ning was suddenly stopped by a strange man.
Jiang Ning looked up and saw the two soldiers blocking her way. They were the same two soldiers she had rescued when she returned home from the clinic last time, one of whom was an officer.
Commander Liang looked at Jiang Ning with a kind smile, "It's you. I was just about to go to the clinic to find you and thank you for saving me last time."
Jiang Ning saw that the person wanted to exchange pleasantries with her, but she was busy, so she immediately said, "Sorry, I'm busy right now."
Seeing that she was in a hurry and indeed had something to do, Brigade Commander Liang said, "Then you go ahead and do your thing."
"Okay." Jiang Ning nodded to him and left.
When Brigade Commander Liang saw that Jiang Ning had just come out of the family compound, he immediately guessed that she must be a military officer's family member. He looked at the sentry next to him and asked, "Do you know that comrade from just now?"
How could the sentry not recognize Jiang Ning? He nodded and reported, "Reporting to the brigade commander, she is Deputy Regiment Commander Shen's wife."
Brigade Commander Liang asked again, "Deputy Regiment Commander Shen? Shen Mo?"
"Yes."
Commander Liang murmured, "There are such skilled doctors in this family compound."
Just as he was about to leave, a young man and an elderly man over sixty years old suddenly walked over, and they seemed to be carrying something in their hands.
The young man and the old man walked directly up to the sentry and handed him the items they were carrying. "Hello, I am the village chief of Dahe Village next door. Please pass this banner on to Dr. Jiang Ning, and please also pass this letter of commendation on our behalf to your leader."
