Chapter 99 Meeting Shen Mo's Family

Chapter 99 Meeting Shen Mo's Family

After an unknown amount of time, footsteps sounded outside, pulling Jiang Ning out of her medical book.

There was a knock on the door and a woman's voice, "Yuyan, we're back, please open the door."

Jiang Ning put down her medical book, walked over, unlatched the door, and opened it to see several people dressed in shabby clothes standing outside.

Jiang Ning immediately spotted a man and a woman standing in front of the door. They looked to be around fifty or sixty years old, but their faces were somewhat haggard, making them appear even older.

When the other person saw the door open and a girl appear inside, they were instantly stunned. It took them a long time to react before they could speak. "You, who are you?"

"I'm Jiang Ning," Jiang Ning introduced herself.

The woman standing in front excitedly grabbed Jiang Ning's hand, "Jiang Ning? Shen Mo's wife?"

Seeing how enthusiastic the other person was, Jiang Ning relaxed a little and said, "Yes, Mom, it's me."

The relationship between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law has always been comparable to a war between two countries. She came here mainly to fulfill her responsibilities as a daughter-in-law, to check on Shen Mo's parents, and if they had any health problems, she could treat them.

Jiang Ning is stunningly beautiful, but her voice is clear and melodious. When she called out "Mom," it touched Yang Lan's heart, and a rare smile appeared on her face. "Good, good, I've finally met Xiao Mo's wife."

Yang Lan nudged the middle-aged man next to her with her elbow, "This is your father."

Jiang Ning looked at the middle-aged man and called out, "Dad."

Shen Bingting nodded slightly to Jiang Ning.

Jiang Ning was somewhat surprised by the aura emanating from Shen Mo's father. He was tall and strong with well-defined features, and Shen Mo's appearance was mostly inherited from him. Despite his attempts to restrain himself, he still exuded a powerful and domineering aura of a superior.

However, this aura has weakened considerably due to the arduous labor.

Shen Mo's mother, on the other hand, exuded an aura of being well-read and cultured.

He was inexplicably splashed with dirty water and sent to the countryside for rehabilitation.

Shen Mo never mentioned his family's status, which makes sense. After being demoted, everything was taken back, even their home was confiscated. Mentioning their former 'status' was meaningless.

"Dad, Mom."

Jin Yuyan's voice came from behind her; she had woken up when there was a knock on the door.

Mr. and Mrs. Shen simply nodded. At this moment, Mrs. Shen's thoughts were all on Jiang Ning, and she held Jiang Ning's hand tightly.

Jiang Ning let her pull her along; the hands that were pulling her were rough, and calluses were visible on them.

She looked down and saw that her hands had many tiny cracks and her fingernails were full of dirt. These were hands that had been used for farm work for many years.

Yang Lan pulled Jiang Ning to the side, revealing the two people behind them, and introduced them to Jiang Ning, "Xiao Ning, this is your older brother, Shen Ziming."

Jiang Ning looked up and saw a handsome man with delicate features. He looked three or four parts like Shen Mo, but he looked more like Yang Lan.

"Hello, big brother," Jiang Ning greeted.

Shen Ziming nodded and smiled gently, "Hello, sister-in-law."

Yang Lan then introduced her daughter, "This is Qianqian, your younger sister."

After introducing her to Jiang Ning, she turned to her daughter and said, "Qianqian, quickly call her Second Sister-in-law."

Jiang Ning saw Shen Qianqian, who was charming and lovely, with the looks of both Shen Bingting and Yang Lan. She was good-looking, having inherited the best features from her parents.

These two brothers look like their father and their mother, respectively.

Judging from Shen Mo's face, Jiang Ning knew that Shen Mo's family members were all good-looking.

"Hello, little sister." Jiang Ning greeted Shen Qianqian.

Shen Qianqian looked at her for a while, but didn't respond. She walked past Jiang Ning and went into the house without saying a word.

Yang Lan sighed inwardly, her eyes filled with apology as she looked at Jiang Ning. "Xiao Ning, don't mind her. This child has suffered too much and has become somewhat taciturn."

Jiang Ning shook her head and said, "Mom, I don't mind."

Shen Mo had told her about this younger sister. The Shen family favored daughters, and this only daughter had always been pampered and spoiled since birth.

Shen Qianqian was the same age as her. She was sent to the countryside with her parents when she was a teenager. Her life went from being refined to living in a cowshed. The hardships of being sent to the countryside over the past few years were enough to change a person's character.

Yang Lan pulled Jiang Ning into the house, asking as they went, "Xiao Ning, how are things going with Shen Mo? He's in the army..."

"cough--"

Yang Lan was interrupted by a cough before she could finish speaking.

Upon hearing her husband's reminder, Yang Lan immediately stopped talking.

Although everyone in the house is family, there are some things that shouldn't be mentioned.

Jiang Ning patted Yang Lan's hand, "Mom, Shen Mo and I get along very well, don't worry."

Mentioning Shen Mo, Jiang Ning felt a pang of sadness at the thought of being separated from him for three months. Shen Mo had permeated every aspect of her life, and she had to admit that she really liked that man.

Jiang Ning smiled slightly. She was sure that Shen Mo missed her a lot because of his clingy behavior towards her.

He agrees to everything she says. Shen Mo really has the potential to be love-struck; he might already be love-struck.

Just thinking about Shen Mo makes Jiang Ning want to laugh. At first, she really thought Shen Mo was a serious, straight man, but later his true feelings were revealed, and his reactions when teased were particularly funny.

Yang Lan was thoughtful and observant, and wondered what the girl had thought of that made her so happy all of a sudden.

I realized they were talking about Shen Mo.

The girl's eyes crinkled with joy whenever she mentioned her son, suggesting that she and her son get along very well.

The reason they arranged for their son to marry a girl from the Jiang family was out of a sense of responsibility and a promise. At least with their son's success, they figured he would definitely not let his daughter-in-law suffer any grievances.

"Mom, what are we making today?"

Shen Qianqian's voice came from inside.

"Take out some rice to steam, then take out the pickled cowpeas, and stir-fry some greens," said Mother Shen. After speaking, she looked at her eldest son, "Ziming, go and get some sweet potatoes to roast in the stove."

When Jin Yuyan heard her mother say that she was going to steam rice, her eyes widened. She couldn't help but say, "Mom, that rice is our food for the next half month!"

She used the rice she earned with work points to make rice porridge every day, which was enough to last her for a month. Now, only half a month has passed and the rice jar is almost empty. If she steams another batch of rice, will she even survive?

Although rice porridge is not as fragrant as white rice, being able to eat some rice every day at least provides some psychological comfort.

Upon hearing Jin Yuyan's words, all eyes in the Shen family turned to her, and Shen's father frowned.

Mother Shen's complexion was also not good.

When Jin Yuyan first married into the Shen family, she was gentle and virtuous, polite and kind to everyone, and did a very good job of maintaining appearances.

But things changed when he was sent down to the countryside with his family.

They became unreasonable, lazy, and shirked their responsibilities, finding all sorts of excuses not to work in the fields every day.

Because his wife was unwilling to do chores, Shen Ziming had to do even more to make up for her share.

Because of their family's relocation to the countryside, Mr. and Mrs. Shen felt sorry for their eldest daughter-in-law and turned a blind eye to her laziness. However, over the years, their eldest son has become ill from overwork, while she has accomplished nothing and never cares about him.

As parents, they still felt some resentment seeing their son suffer so much.

However, Shen Bingting and Yang Lan never blamed Jin Yuyan.
