"Teacher Ye, what are you doing here?"
"Xu Qinghua, who told you to become a thief?"
This child is from the school; he's in fifth grade and recently dropped out.
"I've finally caught you, comrade. Could you please report this to the police for me?"
The woman walked over angrily, and Xu Qinghua immediately returned the money. The woman took the money without even saying thank you.
In her view, the People's Liberation Army should serve the people.
"Brother, could you please not report me to the police? I promise I'll never steal money again."
Gu Yunduan asked Ye Zhaozhao for her opinion, but Ye Zhaozhao shook her head. This child was from the village. Gu Yunduan went to get the car, and Xu Qinghua followed beside Ye Zhaozhao.
Why did you steal the money?
“Teacher Ye, I have younger siblings waiting for me at home. Without money, we can’t buy food.”
Xu Qinghua knew that Ye Zhaozhao was a good teacher, so she told her about her situation. Xu Qinghua's parents had disappeared, leaving her and her younger brother and sister behind.
His uncle's family didn't feed him properly. He had to earn his school fees by hunting in the mountains, but his younger siblings had no food and were starving.
So he had no choice but to drop out of school. After Ye Zhaozhao got home, she took out ten catties of fine grains from the kitchen.
"Teacher Ye, what's going on?"
"This is for you now, you can give it to me when you earn money."
"Thank you, Teacher Ye."
Xu Qinghua almost cried as he held the fine grains; he was so moved that his younger siblings would now have food to eat.
When he returned home, he saw his younger brother and sister gnawing on moldy cornbread in the woodshed.
"Brother, you're back. Eat quickly."
When he returned, his younger siblings gave him their cornbread, and Xu Qinghua took out his grain.
"We're not eating cornbread today, we're eating rice."
"Brother, you're not kidding, are you? Where did you get the rice?"
Xu Qinghua opened the rice bag and saw the glistening, plump grains of rice. The two of them were delighted.
"It really is rice."
"Shh, keep your voice down."
Xu Qinghua found an earthenware pot and started cooking porridge. The two children couldn't wait any longer, and as soon as the porridge was cooked, they started drinking it from the broken earthenware pot.
"It's so delicious, you should have some too, bro."
Xu Qinghua couldn't resist either, and drank the porridge in big gulps. All three of them ate their fill, the most they had ever eaten. Xu Qinghua found a place to hide the grain so that his uncles wouldn't find it.
The day after Lin Yanke returned home, Aunt He came to help take care of the children. Ye Zhaozhao saw that she was efficient and trustworthy, so she went to work.
"Teacher Ye, do you mean that our school will waive tuition fees and only charge for textbooks from now on?"
As soon as Ye Zhaozhao arrived at the school, she went to see the principal. Xu Qinghua was not the only child in the village who couldn't afford to go to school, so Ye Zhaozhao came up with this idea.
“Okay, I’ll apply to the Education Bureau. But even though it only charges for textbooks, I’m afraid not many children will be willing to come to school.”
“Principal Jiang, I’ll go to the village with the teachers to try and persuade them.”
"good."
Principal Jiang thought that everything was for the children. Looking at Ye Zhaozhao, Jiang Daheng thought of his good-for-nothing daughter.
Meanwhile, Lin Yanke finally arrived home. After getting off work, Gu Linyuan saw her carrying many bags and hurried over to her.
"Wife, why didn't you call the guard to pick you up?"
"Forget it, otherwise everyone will say I'm putting on airs as a high-ranking official's wife. Where's Dad?"
"Dad's at his house. Are Zhaozhao and the babies all doing well?"
Gu Linyuan thought he must take leave to see his daughter-in-law and baby next time. Knowing that he missed the children, Lin Yan took out the photos she had taken from her bag.
Looking at the two adorable babies, Gu Linyuan felt his heart melt and immediately took the photos to find the old man.
“You called Dad and asked him to come over for dinner. Zhao Zhao brought him a lot of things.”
Lin Yan took out the contents of her bag: cured meat, cured chicken, cured fish, dried sweet potatoes, dried bamboo shoots. Seeing so many things, Gu Linyuan knew that Zhao Zhao was a filial child.
"And this too, Zhaozhao said we should eat one a day, it's good for our health."
Looking at the pills in his wife's hand, Gu Linyuan was surprised to find that Ye Zhaozhao was also skilled in medicine. He immediately felt that the Gu family had struck gold.
Just then, a woman entered through the door, looked at the things on the ground, and frowned.
"Mom, what are all these things you brought?"
"You're blind, can't you see? These are all gifts from Zhaozhao to us."
Lin Yanke had long been dissatisfied with her eldest daughter-in-law. Every time she came back, she would either throw a tantrum or get into a fight. They didn't owe her anything.
Compared to this, Zhao Zhao is much cuter.
"Mom, my younger brother is a regimental commander, and his wife brought you all this stuff. She's really generous."
Liu Xiuli came here today to sow discord. This time, her family had an emergency, and she wanted her mother to cover for her for a few days, but her mother refused.
They said they were going to help Ye Zhaozhao during her postpartum period. I'd like to ask, when she and her second son's wife had their babies, did she help them during their postpartum period?
“Liu Xiuli, I know what you’re thinking. Back then, you were the one who said you wanted your mother to come and that I didn’t need to take care of her. You even said you weren’t used to living with your mother-in-law.”
Lin Yan is no pushover either. If her daughter-in-law is filial, she can be a good elder. But if her daughter-in-law causes trouble, she cannot tolerate it.
Liu Xiuli was surprised that Lin Yan knew all this; she thought Lin Yan hadn't heard it at the time.
"Mom, what are you saying? I'm just speaking up for you and Dad."
"You don't need to say anything, go back to your own home."
