The old lady's eyes were filled with anger when she heard this.
"Grandma will be discharged from the hospital in a couple of days. After she's discharged, I'm going to give him a good talking to."
"Grandma, don't be angry, he's not worth it."
"Child, don't you hate him?"
Zhou Jinghong shook his head. Hating someone requires a reason, and as for Zhou Changjun...
He had no reason; it wasn't that he didn't want to hate, but rather that he didn't even want to hate.
He looked no different from any other passerby, and the old lady held him in her arms with heartache.
"From now on, you'll stay with Grandma. Grandma will protect you."
"Grandma, you don't need to protect me. I'm all grown up now. I can protect myself and take care of you too."
The old lady touched him, wondering what Zhou Changjun was thinking. How could he abandon such a good son?
The old lady didn't think too much about it; after all, not everyone's thoughts are normal.
The next day, Zhou Jinghong went to the train station to see Yuanyuan off, and the two children waved goodbye reluctantly.
"Gu Nian, wait for me."
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
Zhou Jinghong chased after the train until he was too tired to run anymore, and then he looked ahead.
Zhou Jinghong clenched his fist silently and waited at the train station for a long time before returning to the hospital.
After the old lady was discharged from the hospital, in order not to give the villagers anything to talk about.
Zhou Changjun still went to pick up the old lady himself. When she saw him, the old lady didn't even give him a kind look.
"Mom, this is Baoyan. We've already registered our marriage, and she'll be your daughter-in-law from now on."
The old lady came back and hadn't even had a sip of water to calm down when she heard Zhou Changjun say this.
Zhao Baoyan quickly called out, "Mom!"
The old lady ignored her and simply asked Zhou Jinghong to pour her a glass of water.
What brings you back this time?
When the old lady asked him that question, Zhou Changjun's face showed a hint of guilt.
However, at Zhao Baoyan's prompting glance, he still spoke.
"Mom, I'd like to borrow some money from you."
To put it nicely, it's a loan; how much money has he taken from his family over the years?
"That's right, Mom. Baoyan has found a job in Kyoto. Her uncle introduced her to the job."
“Once you get in, you can earn several thousand yuan a month, so I want to take some money from you first so that Baoyan can go in first.”
The old lady does have money, but it's money she saved up, and she'll only give it to Zhou Jinghong to spend.
This money is saved for Zhou Jinghong to use when she takes the college entrance exam; she won't take it out.
Outside the door, Zhou Changsheng and Kong Cui became anxious upon hearing that Zhou Changjun had indeed returned for the money.
The old lady wouldn't give them the money; she was only kind to Zhou Jinghong.
It's good for their son too, but compared to Zhou Jinghong, that's a far cry.
Kong Cui argued with the old lady every day about this, but the old lady held onto the money.
She had no choice but to accept it. During the few days the old lady was hospitalized, Kong Cui turned the house upside down, but she didn't find any money.
Now that Zhou Changjun hasn't returned for several years, he's immediately eyeing this money.
The two men were naturally unhappy. They were eavesdropping when Zhou Jinghong, who had returned from getting water, saw them peeking through the crack in the door.
He kicked both of them directly, and they fell straight in.
The people inside the house saw the two fall but didn't say anything, simply saying that the two deserved it.
Zhou Changsheng glanced back at Zhou Jinghong, and he and Kong Cui got up, grimacing.
"Brother, are you going to spend Mom's money on outsiders? I don't agree."
"How can you talk like that? I married her; she's your sister-in-law."
"What sister-in-law? Don't try to claim kinship with me. Let me tell you, if you dare to even think about taking this money, I'll give Zhou Jinghong's son back to you."
Upon hearing that he was going to return Zhou Jinghong, Zhou Changjun indeed hesitated.
Zhou Jinghong looked at him coldly, finding it laughable, but Zhao Baoyan gave him a look.
He then continued.
"How can you talk like that? I'm just borrowing it. I'll pay Baoyan back once she starts working."
Kong Cui was unhappy. The eldest son was often not at home, and it was she and the second son who took care of the old lady.
"Big brother, you're such a grown man, yet you're still sponging off your parents and asking Mom for money. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?"
"Also, let me tell you, there's no way we'll give you the money. We spend so much money a month supporting Zhou Jinghong, and you've never given us any money."
The old lady looked at the group and spoke directly.
"Don't worry about the money, just go do what you need to do."
Seeing the old lady like this, Zhao Baoyan was furious and left immediately.
Zhou Changjun went after her, and Kong Cui came to the old lady.
"Mom, you did the right thing. My older brother is so shameless. He actually asked you for money. We haven't seen him send any money home in all these years."
"Mom, I don't want this money. I'm just afraid of losing it, so you have to hide it well."
The old lady nodded and looked at Kong Cui.
"If you treat Jinghong well, this money will be yours in the future."
The old lady thought she should calm the two of them down first, and Zhou Changsheng and Kong Cui exchanged a glance.
"Okay, Mom, we will definitely treat Jinghong well."
Two more days passed, and the old lady still wouldn't budge, so Zhou Changjun and Zhao Baoyan had to think of other solutions.
After the two people left, Kong Cui felt that the air in the house was much fresher.
At the dinner table, Kong Cui specially picked out a chicken leg for Zhou Jinghong to eat.
"Mom, why should he get a chicken leg?"
“Jinghong is your younger brother, and also Mom and Dad’s child. It’s only right that he gets to eat a chicken leg.”
“But you’re not me. He’s a little brat. He told us not to give him any good food and said that he’s not our biological child, so why would we expect you to raise him as our own? No way.”
