Li Changyu's hands suddenly clenched, and worry appeared on his handsome face.
He seemed about to rush out at any moment, but reason calmed him down, and he stared intently at every move inside the palace.
Mi Shan took in his reaction, silently raised her hand, patted his shoulder, and gestured for him to calm down.
Perhaps he really cares about Bai Lingyu.
Seeing her in danger was the only reason he repeatedly showed such a panicked expression, completely different from his usual calm and composure.
"don’t worry."
Mi Shan's eyes flickered gently as she said softly, "Your Highness, go and attract their attention first."
"What do you want to do?" Li Changyu asked, his eyes filled with a hint of wariness.
"You know my abilities; I won't let myself get into a predicament."
Mi Shan didn't know if he was worried about her.
This statement was both a response to him and a form of self-consolation.
Li Changyu thought for a moment, then went around through the back door to the front door.
He wore a black robe and had a tall, slender figure.
"Wait, Your Highness? How did you get in?" Eunuch Zheng, who was guarding the door, looked up in astonishment, staring at him with a surprised expression.
Looking behind him, there was nothing there; no one stopped him, and he just walked in so brazenly.
“I just wanted to visit my grandmother, is that something to make such a fuss about? I know I rarely come to Cining Palace, but when I woke up today, I remembered that my grandmother’s health has been poor lately, and we, as her descendants, have not been able to visit her to show our filial piety.”
Li Changyu spoke loudly.
This caught the attention of the people inside the house.
They were already in a tense moment, like startled birds, and their expressions changed drastically.
The mere presence of these individuals in the Empress Dowager's palace was already a crime.
Not to mention, they were also plotting a rebellion.
"what to do?"
"Let's hide first."
The three of them climbed out the window, went outside, and dragged the sack containing Bai Lingyu out as well.
Mi Shan walked to the other corner of the wall and secretly observed the three of them.
Inside the sack, Bai Lingyu's figure was still struggling.
The Empress Dowager coughed twice and weakly refused, saying, "Who is outside? I am not feeling well and will not see anyone today."
“Grandmother, it is I, Changyu.”
"It's kind of you to be so filial, but I really don't have the energy. Why don't you come back after court?"
“Grandmother, I have something important to tell you. Since you wouldn’t let me in, I’ve been waiting at the door.”
Li Changyu knew that at this point, he couldn't give up easily, no matter what.
Even if you're thick-skinned, you still have to put on this act.
In this way, with him there, the people inside cannot get out.
The three of them stood under the window, their expressions tense, listening to the conversation between the Empress Dowager and Li Changyu, growing increasingly anxious.
"Why not just let him in and get rid of him quickly?"
"that is."
"So as not to ruin our important plans later."
The three of them focused intently and quietly spoke to the Empress Dowager through the crack in the window.
"But what if the Crown Prince, with his keen sense of security, discovers us?"
Upon hearing this, the Empress Dowager opened the window and said to the three of them, "There is a side hall a dozen meters ahead. You should wait there first to avoid attracting attention."
"After the Crown Prince leaves, I will go to meet you."
"Okay. Let's do it that way."
The three of them moved quietly.
Tongji carried the cloth bag and headed towards the palace on the side.
Mi Shan quickly hid in the bushes, and only after they left did he muster his courage and risk going around to the side hall.
Actually, she had no clue either; her intuition just told her to stall for time.
Then, they would wait for another opportunity to rescue Bai Lingyu.
She wasn't sure if she would succeed; she was relying on luck and risking her life.
Given Mi Shan's usual personality, she would never stoop to doing such a thing, but for some reason, she did it anyway.
"Come in."
As soon as the Empress Dowager finished speaking, Eunuch Zheng opened the door.
Li Changyu stepped inside.
The vast palace was empty; the Empress Dowager lay on the bed, with curtains drawn.
Li Changyu did not approach too closely, but simply bowed and looked around to search for the three people. When he saw that the window was open, he understood what was going on.
"Your Highness, although my health is deteriorating day by day, I am still clinging to life. Now that you have seen me, you should be relieved."
"Grandmother, you are too kind. It is our blessing to be healthy. We hope you will get better soon."
"I do wish I could, but there are just too many things that give me a headache. You just said you had something important to tell me, what is it?"
Li Changyu's dark eyes flickered.
I was trying to come up with an excuse to get by.
Then he mentioned that the Prince of Pingxi had agreed to hand over military power and the tiger tally.
The emperor had granted him permission to return to his residence last night, and he could now enter the palace normally today to hand over the tiger tally in front of all the civil and military officials.
"Your Majesty knows that she has always valued these old ministers and thought that telling you this news would make you happy and be beneficial to your recovery."
"I see."
The Empress Dowager nodded, if it weren't for the fact that the Sixth Prince had informed her of this matter long ago.
She was indeed surprised and delighted to hear the news.
But now, feeling nothing, I offered him a token compliment.
Next, Li Changyu started some small talk and chatted with the Empress Dowager.
The Empress Dowager hinted several times that she wanted him to leave, but Li Changyu refused to go and deliberately delayed, simply because he had not received any news from Mi Shan.
"Your Majesty, I have never sat down and talked with you like this before. I have so many things on my mind that I want to say."
