Chapter 1058: Accident

Yu Jiao looked at the "scalpel" in his hand which clearly bore the marks of time, and her heart tightened inexplicably. She couldn't tell whether she was looking forward to Li Jing's next words or what other emotions she was feeling.

Then Li Jing said, "It's true that I picked up this knife from a pile of dead bodies, but not from a mass grave." Li Jing closed his eyes, his hoarse and rough voice hid the pain. It seemed as if the fire was ignited again in front of him, and in the blazing flames, the ground was covered with blood.

Seeing that Li Jing seemed to be lost in painful memories, Yu Jiao was silent for a while. After Li Jing calmed down a little, she asked softly, "If it's not a mass grave, then how can there be a pile of dead bodies?"

Li Jing's terrifying face hidden behind the mask twitched slightly, and he said in a hoarse voice: "In the 32nd year of Emperor Mingzong, the Huaiyang Princess's Mansion was brutally wiped out. This knife was picked up from the Huaiyang Princess's Mansion. The person holding this knife is the murderer."

Perhaps it was because he had been hiding for too long and revenge was hopeless. Before he died, Li Jing suddenly had the courage to tell people about the past, but that was all he could say. He hinted that Cheng Ying was the murderer. Li Jing wanted to remind Yu Jiao not to get too close to Cheng Ying, the ruthless eunuch, otherwise the Liu family might repeat the mistakes of Princess Huaiyang's Mansion in the future.

"See you later. I'm taking my leave now." Li Jing put away the short blade, clasped his fists in salute, and turned to leave.

Yu Jiao stared at his leaving figure in a daze, but what she was thinking in her mind was that if she remembered correctly, her elder brother once said that it was Cheng Ying who led the Jinyiwei and Dongchang to exterminate the entire Huaiyang Princess Mansion when Emperor Mingzheng killed his brother and seized the throne.

The scalpel in Li Jing's hand turned out to be Cheng Ying's?

Thinking of the ruins that were out of place in the Zanmao Hutong, which was full of wealthy families, Yu Jiao's face turned pale. She thought that the scalpel belonged to Cheng Ying, so he must be from another world like her. Then she thought, as a doctor, how could Cheng Ying kill an entire family with a scalpel that could save lives?

Even if they are from the same era, people like Cheng Ying are probably outliers.

After Li Jing left, Yu Jiao realized belatedly that Li Jing's life experience might be related to Princess Huaiyang's Mansion, otherwise how could he know what happened that year? The burns all over his body just correspond to the fire in Princess Huaiyang's Mansion that year. He always carried the murderous scalpel with him, as if he cherished it very much, but in fact he hated it.

Yu Jiao went to Baoshou Hall immediately. While chatting with Old Lady Liu, she inadvertently mentioned Princess Huaiyang's Mansion. She asked about it indirectly. After hearing Old Lady Liu say that Princess Huaiyang married Li Si, the director of the Imperial Observatory, Yu Jiao suddenly realized that Li Jing should be Chou Ge'er's real name, and he should be related to Director Li Si.

Yu Jiao felt a little emotional, and she only hoped that Li Jing would not harbor resentment and seek revenge, otherwise, if he faced Cheng Ying, he would probably never come back.

The people around her had a grudge against Cheng Ying for annihilating her entire family, which changed Yu Jiao's opinion of Cheng Ying again. For the first time, she realized that those rumors were actually true, and she had probably only witnessed one percent of Cheng Ying's cruelty.

Even though she already knew that Cheng Ying was most likely from the same era as her, Yu Jiao no longer had any ideas.

On October 15th, the moon was full and the stars were sparse. The next day was the wedding. Yu Jiao couldn't sleep. She held the paper-cut rabbit that Yu Qizhe asked Song Nian to send her in her hand and looked at it over and over again. The rabbit could change shape when pulled, squatting or jumping, looking cute and adorable.

Song Nian also brought her a note, in which Yu Qizhe said that he was afraid that she was hesitating and worrying too much, so he happened to meet a master craftsman with superb paper-carving skills, so he asked the master to make this paper-carved rabbit and gave it to her to amuse her.

Yu Jiao played with the paper-cut rabbit for a while, and her worries gradually faded away. She fell asleep on her side, but she was awakened by Jianjia after less than half an hour.

"Miss, someone is coming from the palace. Please come in immediately." Seeing Yu Jiao wake up, Jianjia said softly, "I heard that something happened to Concubine Xue, and she is not feeling well."
