Chapter 1114: Take Refuge

"You really are..." Yu Jiao felt sweet but funny when she heard this. Her ears turned red. She gently pushed Yu Qizhe on the waist and urged him, "Go back to the front hall quickly. Don't let your father wait anxiously."

Yu Qizhe stopped, looked at her and repeated, "Remember to wash your hands before eating." Then he turned and went to the front yard.

Yu Jiao looked at his back, suppressed her laughter and whispered softly, "Is it childish?"

On the way back to Baoshou Hall, Yu Jiao couldn't help but think of Fei Ge'er, the one who would affectionately pull her clothes like a puppy and call her "Sister" every time he saw her. So much time had passed in a blink of an eye, and she didn't know where Liu Sanniang took him or how he was doing now.

Cangwu County

The young man came into the room carrying the freshly cooked medicine. A muffled cough was heard from the bed. Liu Sanniang looked haggard and her throat was hoarse and weak from coughing. "Stop working. Have you packed everything?"

"It's ready." Meng Fei placed the medicine on the low table at the head of the bed, helped Liu Sanniang to sit up, stuffed a soft pillow behind her, and then picked up the medicine: "Mother, take the medicine first."

Liu Sanniang took the medicine bowl, stirred it with a spoon, and sighed, "It's the same whether you take it or not."

Meng Fei advised: "Mom, I bought you some candied fruit. I'll give it to you after you take the medicine."

Liu Sanniang felt sad when she saw her son, who was as sensible as a little adult. She put down the spoon, brought the bowl of medicine to her mouth and drank it all in one gulp.

Meng Fei took the empty bowl, took out the candied fruit from the box and handed it to Liu Sanniang.

Liu Sanniang ate a piece of candied fruit and said, "Did you remember everything that mother told you?"

Meng Fei felt bitter, but said obediently: "Remember."

“If mother’s health wasn’t so weak, I would never have asked you to go live with her.” Liu Sanniang hated her own useless body. She and Fei Ge’er moved to such a faraway place in Cangwu County in Lingnan just to stay away from the past and not be involved in it. But now she had to take Fei Ge’er to the capital and entrust him to Yu Jiao’s care. After all, her Fei Ge’er was still so young. If she went, how would Fei Ge’er survive alone?

Thinking of this, Liu Sanniang was overwhelmed with grief. She lowered her eyes and wiped away her tears, repeatedly admonishing: "She owes our family a life. You go to her for shelter, not to live under someone else's roof. You don't need to feel inferior to others. She won't dare to treat you badly."

Meng Fei pursed his lips. Although he had learned from Liu Sanniang that Yu Jiao was not his biological sister, the only sister he had seen since he was born was Yu Jiao. She was his biological sister, so he did not agree with Liu Sanniang's words, and would not use his sister's life experience to threaten her.

Liu Sanniang continued, "Her brother... avoid him if you can. Don't get too close to them outside. When you go to the capital, just study. When you can be independent, move out to avoid getting into fatal disaster. If you didn't have no other choice, you would never ask you to go to the capital to join her." The Liu family is in deep trouble. Liu Sanniang took Meng Fei from Changkui to Cangwu County because she was afraid that Liu Ziqi and Yu Jiao's life stories would be discovered, which would implicate them and bring about fatal disaster.

But I didn't want to go through so much trouble and ended up sending my son to live with her.

Liu Sanniang's words were ambiguous, but Meng Fei understood them. He did not refute his mother's words, but just said, "Okay."

Liu Sanniang touched his head. She had been seriously ill in the past six months, and Fei Ge'er seemed to have grown up all of a sudden. She was unlucky and would not be able to see what her son would look like when he grew up to be a handsome young man.

"Have you finalized everything with the carriage and horse company?" Liu Sanniang asked.

She couldn't get up, and even the matter of finding a coachman to go to the capital was something that Fei Ge'er, a half-grown child, had to ask around and run around to do on his own.

Fei Geer nodded, "It's settled. The driver will come to pick us up tomorrow morning."

Only then did Liu Sanniang feel relieved. Fei Ge'er took away the soft pillow behind her, helped her lie down, tucked in the quilt, and then went to the kitchen to cook.
